    Just ordered the LDG Z-817 QRP ATU from R and L Electronics. This is to go with my Lab599 Discovery TX-500, Deluxe Buddipole Long Version, and RadioWavz Pathfinder Mk.1. Thanks for the great video, and fine explanation of hook-up and operation! Best of All to You and Yours!

    On my list for my FT818ND top explanation on how to set up and operate

    i bought one of these ~8 years ago to pair with my 817.
    i used it once. it worked, but i realised i am a knob twiddler and want to do the work myself.
    so, it went in the closet (still there) and bought a nice manual tuner.
    decide which type of operator you are before buying something.

    Very nice !! once the batteries are inserted, the green light is not constant at the end and no longer flashes, does this mean that the agreement is not made? ?

    Nice video. I operate a lot of FT8 and need the ACC port on the radio to plug in a digirig. This will prevent the tuner to be plugged in ! How to get around this problem ?

    • @erikas6874
      @erikas6874 2 месяца назад

      Connect the tuner to the radio, and then use the ACC-port on the tuner to the digirig. The tuner has two ACC-ports, so you can connect other equipment to the tuner instead of the radio.

    Nice presentation. I have the ft818 and it will not switch to pkt until the second tune. No one can explain why this is. So I set it to packet manually.

    Is there a similar tuner that works on the 6 meter band. This auto-tuner is so nice and inexpensive.

    I own both those devices, but I lost the mini DIN cable. Can I still use the tuner with the 817 radio, without causing issues ? 73 de SV4RIN

      I honestly can't remember, I don't own the radio or tuner anymore. 73'

      Yes. But you will need to transmit manually when tuning. Best is to get a new cable. It's just a 8-pin mini-DIN male in both ends, all 8 wires connected.

      I've long since sold this and the radio. There are better built-in options on QRP radios nowadays.

    Maybe you can help can I use my Mfj- 1899t antenna with this without having to use a counterpoise? have asked several hams here on RUclips and have yet to receive an answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated I'm a new ham KN4INN

    • @OntheMicwithMike
      @OntheMicwithMike  4 года назад +1

      Hi there,
      Done a little research on the 1899t and now I’d like one for myself :)
      So from what I’ve learned is that it looks to be that it doesn’t need a counterpoise if you’re using it plugged directly into the radio - for example on the Yaesu FT817 has the BNC connector on the front.
      I have seen them mounted externally away from the radio on a mount/tripod and if you use it that way, it would need a counterpoise for sure.
      In short, use a counterpoise if you’re using the antenna externally, if you intend on plugging it directly into a radio (like a Yaesu ft817) then it isn’t really needed.
      Stay safe and 73’.

      @@OntheMicwithMike Thank you for the great information like I said I've asked many hams who have RUclips channels and got zero response from them. You stay safe as well 73 to you also.

    This autotuner works only with FT817ND?

    • @OntheMicwithMike
      @OntheMicwithMike  3 года назад

      It can be used with other QRP radios but tuning up is done differently to the 817ND.
