- Dr Peter Ridd talks with the Director of Policy at the Institute of Public Affairs, Gideon Rozner about his fight for freedom of speech on climate change.
In May 2018, after an academic career of more than 30 years, Peter had his employment terminated as a professor of physics at James Cook University in Townsville, Australia. Peter had spoken out against the accepted orthodoxy that climate change was 'killing' the Great Barrier Reef.
Peter's court case has enormous implications for the international debate about climate change, and for the ongoing crisis surrounding freedom of speech.
On 7 September 2019 Peter was awarded $1.2 million for unfair dismissal. HOORAY!

Thanks Peter. I quit UON in 1993 due to poor science. They forced man made global warming on me and energy crisis lies, etc. I failed repeatedly due to having opposing views, although I structured my cases. Ever since, I've researched and found I'm definitely right. These issues destroy lives.

I am in the cognitive psychology field, which means my department often gets grouped in with the social psychology fruitcakes (which means women's studies, gender studies, and the like). I see this same dynamic playing out constantly in those fields. Meanwhile, my research is continually reduced in funding, presumably because it does not further the LGBTQ alphabet agenda. Luckily, I primarily self fund my research. But it's everywhere.

This is an outrage that a well respected scientist with 35 years of dedicated experience should be treated like this by non-scientists. The university should be forced to pay damages. All the responsible administrative staff should be fired. I'm sure the scientists are smart enough to run things themselves. Administrators should not be running a university, they should stick to paperwork.

This is not about climate change denial, it is about unscientific unqualified administrators dictating a given predetermined narrative that they wish the results to provide credence to.

I’m not sure weather this man is a climate change denier or not, but he is saying the evidence that is being produced is flawed and sometimes even erroneous due to failures and absences of good scientific practices that would produce genuine honest unbiased results.
He is advocating that the evidence be checked and backed up with recognised world wide accepted scientific methods that would give them the credibility that is required. [Without which they are worthless.]

Opinions have no place in science, only genuine unbiased, scrutinised, checked and balanced and repeated testing will produce any results and discovery’s worth having.

This is not confined to JCU. It runs throughout the world's universities involved in climate research. Scientists are forced to toe line on climate science because it attracts government funding. Anyone who doesn't is sidelined or fired.

Universities are sadly becoming somewhat irrelevant around the world. How about getting back to learning and debating and stop stifling free speech. If you don't agree with what someone says, prove them wrong--don't silence them.

well said - debating in school was an excellent starting point - asking children to answer an academic question should be accompanied by the chance to either disagree with or challenge the answer being sort. Eg Where is the prime meridian positioned - answer Greenwich UK, an answer that ignores how it came to be there. That it was once positioned virtually on top of The Great Pyramid is never mentioned, yet the significance of that is amazingly profound - it's such a shame that they get the basics but not the entire truth since that drags them into a world of mystery requiring deep thought, discussion and enlightenment.

As a physicist, I have always questioned the way in which data is treated by so called 'climate scientists'. Their 'accepted' method of obtaining data is to take a number of readings and use them to interpolate the data which is missing. This assumes the ecosphere is homogenous - which it is not. In fact, the ecosphere is so varied and subject to so many significant (but un-measured) influences, such as periodic lunar and Earth orbits, solar activity, variations in global magnetic flux and Earth tides. These significantly affect CO2, temperature and sea levels. Climate 'scientists' take measurements over less than 0.001% of the Earth and then use this data to statistically calculate the remaining 99.999%. It is not scientifically possible to measure the level of CO2 in the atmosphere to within .01%; global temperatures to within 0.1C; or sea levels to within 10cm - all of which climate 'scientists' claim to be able to do - with certainty. It's statistical analysis and guesswork - not science.
It's a quintessential example of the pretense of knowledge.

Gavin Thomas This last glacial period was 2.5 million years long. Ice core samples only go back 800,000 years. The samples can only determine what co2 levels were during an ice age. Not prior to one.
If you plot the movement of magnetic north, speed over time, it looks very similar to the graghs I see of their temperature rise over the same period of time. 100 years.

Two years ago I stumbled upon the Electric Universe model of cosmology and within a few short months came to the realization that my 20 years of academic study had been a complete farce. For the privilege of a few initials after my name I had invested a small fortune, isolated and sacrificed a third of my life, disseminated among friends and family a mountain of bull shit, and lived a lie earned by rewarding others for my brain washing and indoctrination. Except for those investing their own time and money to pursue their own passions in their basement or garage because they want to KNOW, all researchers have a vested reason for dishonesty and don't give a fuck about you or the world.

The Electric Universe is NOT a valid theory. It's a faulty, unscientific hypothesis. For example, use the EU "theory" to explain then calculate the time dilation caused by the relative velocity of the satellites that must be included in every GPS system. Then do the same for the time dilation due to the effect of the Earth's gravity well. My first year Physics students can do this easily.
EU "theory" cannot account for these effects that must be programmed into the GPS satillites or the system will completely fail.
EU fails to hold up to any scientific rigor and is not valid.

The only times I've seen the great barrier reef bleaching is at the end of the El Nino cycle then seems to recover during the la nina cycle

I grew up in a cult and from an early age I knew they were wrong from the MANY inconsistencys. I was never allowed to mention these things and was ALWAYS punished when I did so. I got out in my late teens but so many didn't and most of those suffer from mental problems from fighting with facts versus perceived reality.

One day in a Lecture decided to challenge the Lecturer by stating " I thought you were here to teach us How to think, Not WHAT to Think"??? She was immediately failed her. She Challenged the result of course as she is an A Grade Student. Of course got no where.
