I've recently downsized/downteched. I now only run an hang on filter, wavemaker, airstone, heater and obviously lights..... and I do have a selection of SPS. 🤫
Good points mate, my bill has went up 80% already and looks as it will go up by the same again 🤦♂️ Had to chuckle at 6 minutes as I noticed the T5's over the tank 👌👀😅 I get the point below that tanks don't cost "all that much on there own" but if savings need to be made somewhere by people things like tanks are up for being shut down which is a shame! The while situation reef tanks aside is ridiculous!
Yep, Bath Road Marines (Bristol) announced there closure last week. The amount of Koi ponds being closed down as well my local freshwater supplier is doing everything to reduce consumption and he said from a friend of a friend high up there will be a price cap (we'll see pinch, of salt) too late for some though..
Count your blessing because I'm paying $.22 nonpeak and $.48 for peak times here in California. I don't see any coral so not sure why you're running that kind of lighting. You also have those wave makers which you don't need.
Whilst I appreciate what you're saying, the actual usage isn't really a major cost increase some simple maths going on your statements; lets take your statement for example; total usage was 1815 KWH If that bill had been at 18p you would have been changed a total of £326.7 for your energy usage. Because you was charged at 28p you paid £508.2 You attribute your aquariums to 40% of your bill. This means at 18p your reef tank cost £130.68 At 28p your reef tank cost £203.28. this is a difference of £72.6 per from 18p to 28p. Divide this by 3 and you are talking about a difference of £24.2 per month for your electricity. £24.2 is not that big of an increase in payment per month to keep enjoying a hobby if you love it. Is what I'm trying to say. Yes we would all love. to have cheaper bills, but I dont include the standing charege that they have doubled because you are going. tobe paying that regardless of whether you're in the hobby or not :) Another factor that hasn't been considered is, my fish tank/aquarium actually heats my house, I spend a lot less on energy / gas / heating because my aquarium is having an affect on my house. Its not major but its another thing to consider.
Your missing the point. Its not going from 18p to 28p that i am taking about its the fact that its going up another 78% so its going to be more like 50p per khw. Which no matter how you look at it, is a horrendous increase. And it will force people over the edge of not being able to continue in the hobby.
do the same exercise it aint hard to see what your new price is :D your bill would have been £889.35 equate 40% to your tank = £355 current cost = £203.8 Previous cost = £130.68 difference of £225 Divide by 3 = £75 increase per month. I dunno about you it still isn't a game change per month. Ill just have 1 less dinner out with the missus per month haha or buy 1 less coral per month :)
@@LukeGreen_ regardless my overall energy bill is going from 1600 a year to over 4000 a year. Add on the general price of living increase and nearly all the disposable income i had to spend on the tank is gone. Most people will be the same. Not sure what part of this is hard to understand?
@@TwoScottishReefers ???????? Are you illiterate ? It says you’re opinionated not illiterate. I’m simply explaining that the increase in electricity isn’t correlated directly to your usage. You’re going to be paying the majority of that increase anyways. The actual increase for your tank isn’t actually that much. If you don’t have the money I agree with you, don’t spend on a hobby. But in reality there are a lot of hobbies that are much worse. Scaremongering people about electricity costs when they are no where near as bad as you’re making out in this video is idiotic, and even more idiotic when you’re running a RUclips channel which clearly would want people to stay in the hobby to remain relevant. Hahahahahah
@@TwoScottishReefers for further clarification £75 quid increase per month is £900 a year. So if your bill is going up to 4000 from 1600 then only £900 of the £2400 increase can be attributed to your tank.

yes, there will be a price cap but that cap will be twice what it is now. Not much chance for the smaller fish suppliers.
The price cap is now even higher, it's going up 80%! And they reckon the average bill will be £6500 a year by April! Utter maddness!
I hate the term price cap it's more like a minimum charge

watch my other videos its going to be a sps dominated tank. Its just not ready for them yet.
I'm so worried :(
