Very informative for risha interests. Really enjoyed hearing the differences in picking instruments. Thanks for sharing this knowledge!

C'est exactement ce que j'avais fait , avant de voir votre vidéo ; j'utilise un " risha " découpé dans une bouteille en plastique , et c'est celui qui me convient le mieux !

Risha means A feather in Arabic..... u can use a real feather instead of plastic and it will sound clean and effortless

Sick video! I've been meaning to pick up the oud to tap into my Palestinian culture a bit more and this video is really helpful, will definitely stick to a risha, haha!

Excellent. Look up Negar Bouban on RUclips. I studied her note for note, and she really taught me a lot.

That was fun to watch! To be honest, I didn't make much of a difference between the picks or the Rishas with the exception of the last transparent one.

I use the back corner of a medium pick. Gives me a sound like a rest stroke in classical.

The Oud is typically played w/ a Pick, some have 7 or more Courses.

Picks are typically not used. The long plectrum is known as a risha.

Hey man, great video, the risha really does bring out a different sound compared to the picks! I’ve never learnt how to play an instrument before, do you think in order to play the oud I would have to learn how to play a guitar first?

You could start on oud. Oud for Guitarists on RUclips and Facebook has the best tutorials. Navid Goldrick on there is very communicative regarding questions.

Great video, man! Funny as well, haha. I will be receiving my first oud on Friday, and was for sure going to use my guitar picks. But you're correct, it sounds better with a risha. I've been learning sephardic songs on guitar but can't wait to play them on the oud. I was planning on tuning it CEADGC to kind of use the same finger positions as in the guitar. Any thoughts on this? Greetings from Mexico!

Hola, Mexico! Are you crypto Jew? Our nearby town of San Luis Colorado are Catholic Sephardim from Castille Spain who settled in Colorado. Check this vid out. Maybe join Oud for Guitarists on Facebook as well. I would move from guitar tuning, it doesn't seem to fit well. I tune my ouds in all 4ths (5th fret on guitar) and then drop the bass string one full step.

I wonder what would happen if you were to apply heat to that plastic packaging risha. It would shrink it and stiffen it up some, maybe make it closer to the horn one? The trick would be to apply even heat. Maybe an iron, with the plastic between two pieces of parchment paper... Hmmmmmm....

Risha also means feather in arabic ✌🏻, hope u do a video on how to play guitar like a oud or point me to a place, u know there are kind of players like enrico macias who play guitar but their picking is oud picking. anyway thats how i got here. nice video

If Risha means feather, that may have been the original. Maybe try some turkey feathers.

To be honest, I am just hit or miss, buying used from EBay and other auctions. I would recommend Sala Muzik for new, great price and free shipping. The one on this vid is a Sala that I did some brace work on.
