  • Hida Furukawa - the inner sanctum of Hida Takayama.
I stayed at Yatsumikan, a famous inn with hot springs.
Gifu in January. I was relieved to arrive at Komatsu Airport on time. I headed south and over the mountains to Hida Furukawa. In Hida Furukawa, which was incorporated into Hida Takayama, the old townscape is maintained by ordinance, and buildings called white-walled storehouses line the waterway, leaving a sense of elegance.
After a quick tour, I went to Yatsumikan. My expectations were greatly exceeded in a good way.
I was immediately greeted by a waitress dressed in beautiful Japanese attire in the lobby. The many waitresses working busily convey their hospitality. The building, part of which has been designated a nationally registered tangible cultural property, is decorated with seasonal decorations that change every month, making it seem like a museum filled with history dating back to the Edo period. The sense of the furnishings, which retain an antique atmosphere, is also wonderful.
Thank you to everyone for allowing me to take photos while you were busy.
The room "Tamayura" was renovated in 2022. The Japanese-style room with Western elements is lit by handmade lighting, creating a space where Japanese and Western styles are in perfect harmony. The design of the Hida craftsman's skills shines everywhere, making it a wonderful room that is comfortable and easy to spend time in.
The food is also wonderful. The menu is not eccentric, but is highly original, so you won't get bored until the end. I usually enjoy food without looking at the menu, but I was excited and enjoyed it until the end.
It is also important that you can enjoy hot springs even though it is a ryokan. Usually, inns that are called ryokan or kappo inns do not have hot springs, but I am impressed by the attitude of operating with such quality and providing a water supply from Nagareha Onsen. The hot springs at a ryokan are even more special.
I envy those who live nearby. It is an inn that I would like to stay at every month. ■Hot spring details
