I am a huge fan of Isabel, but I am always grateful to Amy. I have been listening to her for thirty years and find her to be the only reliable news source.
I remember reading the harrowing ending to The House of the Spirits on a bus from Medellin to Cartagena (Colombia). I couldn't stop weeping, it was so sad and so powerful. And while I was somewhat embarrassed being a grown man crying in public in a culture known for machismo, I also knew that my politics and the way I see the world and go my way through it had changed forever.
She's a fantastic writerl. Power stories with such soul. Thank you for having her on your show. This topic is paramount. How do we treat our guests, our immigrants is how we treat each other.
I left the US for Chile many years ago. I have not regretted one minute of it. A magical place full of natural beauty and ancient wisdom.....We read many of her works here....

It's still a story because the information is not widely known and the same horror continues to this day. Members of my family would never believe it happened. And our country, so wealthy, with so many resources still cannot open its doors to desperate refugees and migrants fleeing from the most horrible circumstances. It's fairly certain that the American economy would completely be in the toilet if it weren't for immigrants, both legal and illegal.
Many of those children are still disappeared, right under the custody of the authorities.
