Very nice tour of the Roomette. I find we usually just enjoy the sights outside from out own room. Less noise and such. Of course we always shut the if we don't want any noise. I do enjoy the meals included with roomettes. They are big enough to two adults comfortably. For those who haven't taken Amtrak before check out all of the great stuff on their website. Just about everything you need to know. My wife likes the idea of being able get outside and stretch her legs at some of the stops. Thanks again good job!!!!
Tom I agree...being inside helps with my piece of mind and allows me to relax while on the train. It’s can be daunting sometimes to walk thru the other cars cause of the swaying..lol..but is necessary like you said to stretch. I love Amtrak, we’ve been riding for 20+ years. I’d love to go cross country. What’s been you & your wife’s most favorite ride???
Yes...it’s so fun... I have to say the bedrooms are the best for family travel. If we were in Coach...Tyler would have been in everybody else business 🤣
This Single Mom They currently have 12,000 points after you spend $1000 if you open a credit card with Bank of America/Amtrak. It’s a good way to start accumulating your points for the trip you want to take with your kids.
I recently did this for a trip I need to take but after seeing how close I was in points to getting a roomette , I’m tempted to save the points for a more scenic overnight trip. (Single mom here too 😉)
This Single Mom one more side note, I learned, after using the single restrooms with a toddler (even smaller than an airplane bathroom), that there was a women’s bathroom in one of the cabins that is a little bit bigger and has a vanity and seating area for child to wait. Scope that out if you end up ever taking a coach seat.
If you catch Amtrak on a sale, you can save a boatload on a trip like this. The rooms and roomettes are kind of pricey for single travelers, but if you have a family or bring someone along, we've found roundtrips much cheaper per person than flying. Plus meals are included
You should enjoy it and try now for long distance I would suggest the over night sleeper or the private roomett coach is fine only if you don't mine sharing for me sleeper your own bathroom yes yes
Great review, thanks so much for sharing! 😀 Like everyone else commented you are very thorough which is much appreciated! I’ve been wanting to do an overnight trip on Amtrak for years now and your video has me sold! Also I’m so glad you mentioned your height, I’m a 5’5” female with shorter legs and a longer torso so that’s perfect for me. I hope to see more train videos like this! Nice job and happy travels!
I’ve been riding Amtrak for such a long time I’m also wanting to take trips to other locations. So I love your suggestion. For the most part it’s really peaceful and so wonderful to see areas I’ve never seen. On this trip there were kids out at their bus stop waving as we went by.. we used to take the auto train rt once a year.. that would be a great video! Safe travels & keep me posted!
Should I or can I bring snacks im going to travel with 2 children a 3 year old & 5 month old.. I'm very nervous but this video helped me know what to expect ❤
I’m so glad this video helped. Yes!!! You can bring snacks. We’ve even stopped to KFC and got our chicken & sides or got food from the hot bar at the grocery store beforehand. Also, check to see if your train will serve dinner or only have the snack bar. The snack bar is expensive. Every time I’ve had dinner it was included with my ticket purchase. Make sure you have activities for the kids. There will be a lounge where you can hang out.. if you like to play games or on some trains they have a lounge car with movies that play. Make sure you have a blanket for each of y’all & a travel pillow. I hope this helps and if you have more questions please let me know. We also have another video about the bigger sleeper cars.
When you turn the light on the fan comes on in the bigger room....in the roomette no..but there are vents under the window that pump a lot of air in. So the room doesn’t get stuffy or smelly.
Excellent video. Might do this with friends in a year or so. One question: do they rooms lock from the outside if we were to go to another car? We would want to make sure our personal items are safe
I’m so excited to do this again..for years we have been avid train riders and I’m so mad I never made auto train vids. We are looking to go cross country. The doors only lock on the inside. So when we left out we put things out of sight and took our phones and purse with us.
do the windows themselves open? im thinking about taking the amtrak from georgia to nebraska and boy is there a lot to learn! but i have a feeling it is going to be so worth it because of the sleeping carts the meals and the lounge of course! thank you for such a thorough video!!
Hey...the windows don’t open, but they have the vent below that can control air from outside. Also, when you are booking there will be an icon for food to let you know if there is food service or you can ask the booking agent. I think the sleeping cars are a must with kids and/or a family.
Wow, I have really wanted to take a train ride somewhere. This was really cool to see how the rooms look. Boy that toilet and bathroom was tiny. Do you know if they offer bigger cabins?
Question about luggage. How many bags can we bring and do we carry bags with us on the train or is there a spot for all bags and then you bring your carry on bags ? Sorry for the confusion .
It’s 2 per ticketed person. We check the big luggage & are able to bring our smaller bags with us. The checked luggage also has weight restrictions of 50lbs...much like when flying. If you are in the coach seating there is an overhead open storage area. If you are in the sleeping cars you will have storage areas too.
@@Tera-N-Tyler how many bags can i bring with me on the train ? I know you said they check the bigger bags and we take the smaller ones with us, so is it 2 big bags and unlimited smaller bags ? Sorry I am making this so complicated😆 Also I seen you had a stroller with ..would I be able to bring me daughters carseat with ?
Thank you so much for sharing...def would like to try traveling like this. Good to know you have your own “bathroom.” Not sure if you’d know but is there an available shower?
@@Tera-N-Tyler It's very convenient when you have to pee in the middle of the night. You don't have to walk to the end of the car to get to the bathroom
Excellent video luv it. Thanks for sharing, hope you video the larger room too
Thank you for the details! Somethings you don't see on other videos.
You’re welcome
Great job! I shared it with a friend who's thinking of getting a compartment on her next trip
What an adorable family! Loved the video thanks for showing what it will be like! You even included the menu!
Thank you!! I think for that length of travel even if you bring food you would still want to know what they may have to offer! Thanks for watching
Thank you so much for sharing the experience. Very helpful
Just to add on it is so nice to not have to drive, I also worry about my motion sickness. Your baby is cute.
lil man is just too cute! made my heart smile
Great video, and your little boy is adorable!
Thank You!
Thank you soooo much! Excellent! So nice to understand the roomettes.
Before I took the actual car..I never understood those little drawings on the site..when trying to select my fare.

WOW, your hands are identical to Blonde's!! I never realized that lol. But great tour tutorial on the Amtrak coach roomette style bunks.

Yes, they do. They're called deluxe cabins. It's more room, bigger, and has a private shower in your cabin. Of course , it's more money.
I saw her say below that she has a video on the bigger cabins

They have the showers in the bigger cars...so in the roomette...we washed up @ the sink. Thanks for watching.
did you guys have two sleepers ?
Yes...they didn’t have the big one available, so we had to have 2, based on our 3 people.
Does anyone use the roomette toilet?!
Yes!!!!!! I did 🤣

Hey..I was using my phone so I’m sure moving around in that tight space was the cause. If you have any questions or missed parts let me know.
No food service?
No dining car??
Horrible Amtrak!!
I agree....that’s one of the things I look to on these long journeys
