I use the Top Lit method with first burn and then add at intervals for 2nd burn. I keep 25 gal tubs of rainwater close by and quench the coals. Good video. Thanks for sharing.
I also use the retort method. 55 gal drum w/lovable lid. Fill with cut up chunks of 3 year old oak firewood. I made the outer drum/shroud from metal swimming pool surround. It’s 4 ft tall and I cut it to length and overlap 6” and screw together real good with short metal lath screws. The 4 ft height allows a good fire on top of retort and I can use tall feed stock to burn around the edges. I use the top lit method for first burn and then add feed stock to get a good second burn. I’ve discovered that it takes a second burn to get good charcoal.
@ronwillett9014, than YOU for taking the time to share comments regarding the methods you use! I've truly been curious to know/compare notes, as I appreciate you've sure put biochar to great use with your plantings. 👍
@LeatherHomestead-io8dt, watched quite a few of your videos, subscribed, and even looked up your leather website. LOVE the leather goods you make. I also much appreciated the videos on accountability and everyone eventually dying (100% true!). Found we have a number of things in common and not just biochar... lived in West Texas (Lubbock in my case) for 3 years earlier in my life. Look forward to your future video shares. 👍
@@bigbendmarine Thank you! We are from Tx. Kermit,Houston, Mt Pleasant then here in north of Nashville in 92, Looking forward to yours as well. And thank you for your service we love soldiers around here.
