Love this. YES.. exactly.. and this is coming from some one that has had a history of "depression"... at 51 years of age.. I realized this years ago.. maybe a decade.. and have slowly been becoming a more spiritual person doing the things that spark some thing in me.. not for any one else.. just me. Love your channel.

Other than clinical depression Would you agree with the Buddha that we get depressed because we either want something or don’t want something. I have been diagnosed as clinically depressed but I am also a Buddhist. It seems to me that depression is an indication of extreme Dukkha. A lot of the time I think to myself, if I can get something, or have a wish fulfilled or if I am averse to something and I want it to go away; if that need is met then I will be “happy.” It seems to me as a person who is in treatment and as a Dhamma practitioner, that we invest too much in “happiness.” Everything is impermanent but it’s really hard to remember that. Even though I still get really dark from time to time, I am most grateful to have the Dhamma in my life. It’s a part of the work I do to help my mind. It is both a simple and extremely difficult path but I am most grateful. Congratulations on your monastic training. It’s a wonderful thing. I wish you the best. I really enjoy your videos. I’d love to hear your reply to my observation. Peace and Metta.

Ricardo Francis Zayas hi Ricardo. Great question. Yes I definitely agree with your obsevations and the statement about the Buddha's teaching. They believe that cravings lead to suffering. I agree with that. This question is a bit difficult to answer because suffering comes in so many different forms. Depression is one of them. It's also difficult to answer because the western world breaks suffering down into specific categories: anxiety, depression, etc while Buddhism talks in more general terms such as suffering as a whole. But what I can add to this discussion is that what I have found from my own personal and professional experience is that people are mistakenly after the wrong thing. They seek happiness and they never get it because it's a temporary state. What I have found that people are truly in search of is inner peace. The difference is that happiness derives from external forces where as inner peace comes from within 😁

I agree that cravings causes suffering. Not accepting things as they are causes suffering. And not being in present moment causes suffering.

Nick, Thanks for your reply. I’m curious. Are you still a monastic or are you back in lay life? I do agree that creativity is good medicine. I’m a musician and composer. I feel very blessed in the recording studio, But I’m wary about getting attached to anything. I wish I could ordain but st 65 years old, I might not be able to find a Theravada monastery which would take me at my age. Oh well. Peace and Metta.

Ricardo Francis Zayas hi Ricardo. I'm living as a lay person now. I'm in Malibu CA. Where are you from? I think some temples would still take you. You just have to ask them.

@@nickkeomahavong01 Hi Nick! I hope you get this message. I am 24 and want to ordain and have known that this is my path for the longest time, but have taken time to come to terms with abandoning the world. I live in the US, but would like to become a monk in the Theravada tradition, and would like a sangah that is compatible with me...so the question is, How do I go about finding a sangah to call my home abroad, without being able to see it in person first? How do I search for it? How do I apply for it? I have had a hard time procuring these steps. Thank you so much.

hi nick! i have watched a lot of your newer videos over the past few months and love them so much they are soooooo helpful. i love how simply you explain things. i just decided to view your older videos this morning and love being able to see your transformation and how you used to be. your older videos remind me a lot of myself too. after thinking about this one, i had a question: since now you are a full time monk, do you still believe in expressing yourself as much as in this video? i know you wear the same clothes everyday and there is benefits to that as well. maybe its not appropriate to discuss for you idk, but if possible i would love to hear your new take on it.

    Hey Nick.
If i need to write to you in private. How can i do that?
I want to take your perspective when you released this video to your new monk life now.
For me, I feel like going to Thailand and learning Buddhist meditation makes me feel very alive than ever before but.....
Look forward to earning your true monk wisdom.

Accepting u as u r is the best way to fight depression. Whether u r introvert or extrovert, shy or bold, honest or manipulative... Just accept. There is no right character or wrong character and no one to decide for u except u.

Please look here... 🙋‍♀️Is it normal if my mind was telling me, one day if im disappeared in this world, will there be any changes...
In one family, responsibility is more important or love is more important... I can choose how i want to cut my sandwich or comb my hair, but that doesn't mean i can change their mind to look at me.. Show some patience or believe to me. 🙂Whatever.. Life still going. 🙂

    YOUR A HOOD..
    your street!
You crack me up! You are an Asian who has been "white washed!"
You are a cute clean cut preppy young man!
My daughter is the one who says "White washed".
She said I (white) white washed her (Chinese - adopted!)
So saying "white washed" comes from love!
You came from your loving parents and CA made you who you are! 😁
