    It an amazing way to heat a home, but also very expensive. We went with mini-split which gives you the advantage of cooling and an extremely low heating bill.

      Hi!
      A mini-split (or any air-based heating system) simply can't achieve the same level of comfort that a radiant heating system will provide. As for economics, a radiant heating system will use less energy than most convection systems. (Much depends on the relative cost of local fuel prices. of course.)
      We have customers who tell us their systems (real world application) that their heating bills are cheaper than their neighbor's heat pump systems (comparable homes and lifestyles, I'm told). I know my own heating costs are very good.
      I recently had a customer who had radiant heat in his previous home, but in his new home he bought into the idea of heat pumps and mini-splits. He came back to radiant for the comfort.

      @@ThermaRay My two favorite heating systems are hot water radiator and ceiling radiant systems. Growing up we had hot water heating and while it was slow getting to temp, once there it was even throughout the living space. My present 1968 home had ceiling radiant heat with 10 zones for 1600 sqft. Even with electricity at $0.09 kilowatt hour it got really expensive to the point we were zoning it off for certain rooms. And although it was wonderful to walk into a room where everything was at the same temperature, something you can't easily achieve with an air furnace cycling on and off the monthly cost was prohibitive. I would have gone for hot water, but it would have meant too much infrastructural cost. It was this same cost that also eliminated gas heating.
      In exploring other heating systems I discovered mini-splits which provides some of the comfort of radiant heat with the advantage of also being able to provide warm weather cooling. Since the mini-split is not using electricity to generate heat like a radiant system, the mini split only uses electricity to drive a variable speed compressor so that it can transfer heat energy from the outside into the inside or the reverse in the summer, it has a much higher efficiency than other system. Our system is on 24/7 and maintains an even temperature all year long. With the blower always circulating air I get the advantage of the objects in the room being at the same temp. No blast of warm air followed by the cool down that is common to forced air systems.
      As with all heating systems a properly sized and installed system should provide comfort, mini-split are no exception. The difference is in there ability to operate at a higher efficiency and thus less cost. According to the United States Department of Energy mini-split with a zoning system can save you as much as 30 percent on your energy bill, and with the added benefit to cool and dehumidify. I thought about slapping solar panels on the roof, too much shade in the woods, but still needed a way to cool off the home. In the end mini-split was the ideal solution.

    I have this system in my 30+ year old condo, but in both my bedrooms it doesn’t work. Any suggestions on how to repair without taking down the ceiling?

      Hi!
      Sorry to hear that you are having issues. There may not be anything wrong with the heating panels themselves. There could be a thermostat issue, a breaker issue, etc. Our offices are closed until Jan 4, 2022, but if you can call us then (866-457-4600) we can discuss what options are available to you.

    Can you install this on a cement garage ceiling to heat the enclosed porch / sunroom above?

      Thank you for your question! We would ask for additional information for your situation, but it's very likely that yes, this would be a good application of radiant ceiling panels. Please contact us directly so that we can det further details.

    What if a drywaller drills into one of these?

    • @FreeBeerable
      @FreeBeerable Год назад

      Hi!
      The RC Series of radiant heating panels are designed to fit between the joists or furring strips (if they're used). The drywaller is screwing into the joist or furring strips so won't screw into a heating panel. However, it's very unlikely that even an errant screw would catch the heating element inside the panel - the wires are small and are only a tiny percentage of the overall surface of the heating panel.
