There were episodes where Gilligan risked his life to save the castaways! Always with a dose of humor, of course. This was one of them! It was always hilarious when the castaways were right in the thick of danger and Gilligan saved the day, slapstick goofiness included of course! A classic TV comedy that is still funny today!😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
@@58twright According to one of the movies, yeah, they did. It tried to follow a "Where are they now" story that put them back on the island, probably trying to set up Season 4, but the Network wanted Gunsmoke more and it only got another movie that no-one really remembers, I think it was Christmas related that they were finally off the island for good and that the show was over.
"I beg your pardon! They were a gift from my board of directors.j Couldn't be anything less than gold or platinum!" "Well, I'm sorry Mr. Howell, but that watch and identification bracelet are just gold-platted". "Remind me to drop their options and change the lock on the executive washroom!"
I can top that. When I was little, I bought candy bars for a nickel and they were so big I almost had to get a hand truck to get them home. Well, not really. But they were 5 cents. And I remember penny candy too. I’m surprised they still make Pennie’s. I watched Gilligan’s Island after school too.
Yeah, Mr. Howell, the millionaire, carried his million in cash in a suitcase! A million dollars in 1965 would buy a lot more than it would today. A cool million still has a nice ring to it. Who wouldn’t want to be a millionaire especially in our status-driven society today?
Not sure if it was meant to represent anything, but notice how Gilligan and Mr. Howell are both wearing similar clothes and have similar plots in this episode!
A surprise that Gilligan caught something really big for dinner when a marlin got thrown into his hands by the mine that exploded in the lagoon after the tide washed it back to the island and also got some other fish with it.
Gilligan: "I've found the fitting." (bangs on it with the wrench) Skipper: (shouts) "GILLIGAN!!!" Professor: "Don't hammer, turn it!" Mr. Howell: "Use your head! Use your head!" Gilligan: "Use my head?" (shrugs) "Okay." (drops the wrench and tries to loosen the fitting with his head).
Gilligan actually succeeded in getting rid of the mine and didn't lose the raft either. And he was clever in getting his pendant back off Ginger. Sometimes he can do things right when the writers allow it.
Doesn't matter that the conveniently available brass wrench is not magnetic, just that is non-ferrous. If the mine is prone to leaking explosive gasses when fiddling with the "screw" surely the engineers would have used brass or stainless or some other non-sparking metal.
At minute 4:26, it's very clear that the mine is floating in an artificial body of water. Also, top center of the screen reveals some kind white building beyond the foliage.
Those tines are what detonates the mine, it's a sure bet at least one was snapped off bringing it ashore, they were often delayed action, to allow the ship it attached to, to get into a port or narrows, etc to cause a blockage.
Did anyone notice the Skipper is still wearing his pinky ring and silver chain when standing close to the mine and he is not drawn to it like Gilligan and Howell were.
The Pinky ring wasn’t the Skipper’s, it was Alan Hale’s. It’s what he wore to remember his father by, Alan Hale Sr. A Great actor in the 30’s and 40’s.
Years DECADES before Mark Harmon dropped an "S Bomb" on CBS's "Chicago Hope" Russell Johnson as "The Professor" had a variation thereof with "Shh...it's ticking!"😂😉👨🎓😮🤬🎤⌚🚢🍍🥥🌴📺B.W.
Mr. Howell looks like Gilligan wearing a red shirt and blue jeans and a white hat he's wearing in that episode! It would've been funny if Gilligan had said to Mr. Howell. "You look just like, me, Mr. Howell, are you my twin?" Then Skipper would hit Gilligan on the head with his hat for his stupidity. Wouldn't that been funny?
WHO'S IDEA WAS IT TO DRESS JIM LIKE THAT? 😂If Bob and Jim are faced backwards you can hardly tell them apart! This had to be an inside joke OR talked about after or before filming! Also: Why was Mr. Howell a little more compassionate in this episode? Going after Gilligan to rescue him from the mine, etc.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 KJV, Jesus Christ is the only way

Being on the back lot of an LA studio, probably Crips or Bloods left it there. Seriously though, it's never really known where they landed. They mention the S Pacific once because of a radio broadcast, but if they're getting any signal in the daytime, its shortwave so they could be anywhere. The mine could have broken loose and floated for years too.. But if it's local based then maybe they're in the Bahamas and this is their portion of fun from the Cuban missile crisis and blockade.
"Say. Isn't it against the law to tinker with Navy property?"
"If they complain, I'll buy them a new battleship."
I adore Mr. Howell

Like when the natives were present Gilligan saved his fellow castaways
Another was when Gilligan's look alike and totem pole face of his
Like from natives storms Gilligan did good other times was bumbling
I like The Professor's line: "Gilligan, you do some dumb things, but when do something smart, it's beautiful."
Against the natives and the pancake syrup
Mr. Howell: "You got us into this, have you got any suggestions?"
Gilligan: (nods his head, yells) "HELP!!!"
A bit of Trivia - That Swordfish that Gilligan is holding at the end was also hanging on the wall in some Brady Bunch episodes.
Was that a swordfish , a sailfish or a, marlin??gilligan was holding up
@@LindaMerchant-bq2hp Marlin
I thought I saw it sometime in Bewitched
Both were shows from Sherwood Schwartz
This show is hilarious! I wish it had more seasons
It would have had a season 4 anyway, but somebody on the network cancelled it because he wanted Gunsmoke on the schedule.
Do they ever get off the island??
@@58twright According to one of the movies, yeah, they did. @@LoftyThoughtsInTheDesert wow
@@58twright Yeah they did in the TV movies. The castaways then came back and turned the island into a tourist resort. No lie.
This is one of my favourite Gilligan episodes.
as a kid when i watched this i didnt appreciate the soundtrack enough. its awesome music and fitting the show
Dude this one was a masterpiece
"I beg your pardon! They were a gift from my board of directors.j Couldn't be anything less than gold or platinum!"
"Well, I'm sorry Mr. Howell, but that watch and identification bracelet are just gold-platted".
"Remind me to drop their options and change the lock on the executive washroom!"
From the first time I saw this I thought it was funny how Mr Howell and Gilligan have similar outfits - off white hats, red top, blueish pants.
I noticed that I think sherwood schwartz wanted them in similar clothes as both magnets to the mine scene
i grew up with gilligans island maryann was the best although the rest of them were good too ☺
One of my favorite after school shows to watch while eating penny candy & 10 cent candy bars👍👍
🤗
Butterscotch

Peanuts out of the old candy claw machines
Rolos and PEZ and Hershey and cow tails
"Gilligan, you cheated me! That's no mine, that's an overgrown pincushion!" Well, what were you expecting, Mr. Howell, a goldmine?
probably
@@zumaman5816 All Gilligan said was that he found a mine, an iron mine.
Yes that or a Dimondmine
This was probably the very first episode of Gilligan’s island that I ever watched.
And it’s one of my favorites!
Life was better back then !
In Britain it was OK to be white
Must've seen that one over a hundred times in syndication. Can't get enough of stranded seven castaways.
Same!
Love Mr Howell being dragged to the mine! Jim Backus was a treasure

Was why the boardgame battleship was created
Love this episode .

"That's no mine, it's an overgrown pincushion!"
Only someone like Gilligan would take the words "use your head" literally! LOL
The way the skipper slams that pot down on the table and it breaks and then yells Gillgan will you get outta here! Cracks me up every time!
Great viewing.
Gilligan: "I've found the fitting." (bangs on it with the wrench)
Skipper: (shouts) "GILLIGAN!!!"
Professor: "Don't hammer, turn it!"
Mr. Howell: "Use your head! Use your head!"
Gilligan: "Use my head?" (shrugs) "Okay." (drops the wrench and tries to loosen the fitting with his head).
That Gilligan!
Hmmm, they just happened to have a brass wrench. Good thing!
Great show
Gillian: I found a fitting. *CLANG! CLANG!!
LOL Funny lines between Mr. Howell and Gilligan.
Skipper: "Gilligan, get away from that mine! And that's an order!"
Gilligan: "I can't! It won't let go!"
“That’s no mine it’s an overgrown pin cushion” Thurston Howell
Does anyone else besides me recognize how HOT Mary Ann looked in the red top and denim shorts?Wow!
uuuhhmmm....why did they cut out most of the scene when Gilligan was trying to out paddle the mine ??
That was the best part !
I never realized how huge Denver pile’s ears were. Like dumbo huge.
Good looking out on RUclips
Hmmm.. they could find a brass wrench on the island, but they couldn't find a real swordfish. 🤔
Gilligan actually succeeded in getting rid of the mine and didn't lose the raft either. And he was clever in getting his pendant back off Ginger. Sometimes he can do things right when the writers allow it.

Dude why do you to cut out the part where gilligan paddled towards land? That was one of the most funniest thing in the series 😂
Gilligan and Mr Howells outfits are so similar!!! 0:50
Love the fish he caught at the end. Lol
"The merchandise is insured. That fish cost me $200 on Ebay!"
That was actually Sherwood Schwartz marlin from his office.
Now, somebody can catch it, too, on eBay!
Im watching this episode right know
Nice that they had a brass non-magnetic wrench on hand....
Its a silly show
Don't bang the mine.
And a plastic swordfish.
You could fill an hour of time noting all the stuff that did not make sense in every half hour episode. But I still liked the show.
Mr. Howell 😂
At minute 4:26, it's very clear that the mine is floating in an artificial body of water. Also, top center of the screen reveals some kind white building beyond the foliage.
It was on the set of CBS
Get your stop watch ready.how long would it take to tunnel underneath the mine?yet Gilligan ends up on the other side of the skipper
It's a WW2 ocean mine. 💙
Great comedy.
The end scene had gilligan with a big marlin dinner for the castaways after the mine blew up
Gillian was in the will
Those tines are what detonates the mine, it's a sure bet at least one was snapped off bringing it ashore, they were often delayed action, to allow the ship it attached to, to get into a port or narrows, etc to cause a blockage.
Gilligan got that marlin
I'm surprised that the mine didn't explode after Gilligan banged on it with the wrench!
I always wondered how gilligan was able to get the mine on the beach without it blowing up
Like that WW1 attache case
4:54
"Hey Skipper, I finally caught something big for dinner."
Me: A Blue Marlin?
Comic genius. I knew that in 3rd grade.
Did anyone notice the Skipper is still wearing his pinky ring and silver chain when standing close to the mine and he is not drawn to it like Gilligan and Howell were.
SIlver is nonmagnetic
The Pinky ring wasn’t the Skipper’s, it was Alan Hale’s. It’s what he wore to remember his father by, Alan Hale Sr. A Great actor in the 30’s and 40’s.
I think you missed the point.
The professor doesn’t know what it means when it’s ticking.
Funny show.
Comical episode.
Gilligan sure knows how to create trouble for everyone.
Gilligan's top and Howell's Cardigan are virtually the same colour.
It's loose he could turn by hand if look close
It blows up on contact, why are they still alive
Mr Howell just happened to have packed a civil defense helmet for a 3 hour tour??
0:33 BEST PART!!!

hows the plastic marlin at the very end!
That's a real Marlin from Sherwood Schwartz's office that he caught and had stuffed.
Hope somebody knows how to cook marlin.

yes!

Mr. Howell and gilligan are wearing the same clothes

This guy is definitely demonetized for so much copyright strikes
Kids today don't know what good comedy is. They prefer junk shows like The Simpsons, etc.
Full episode my butt. 5 minutes
we cant waste all day? what do they have to do that's so important?
suzycreamcheesez they were building a raft for another rescue bid, that's what was so important. It's the raft Gilligan uses to tow the mine out.
bid? uh huh Hau'oli Makahiki Hou!@@Goodiesfanful
