The big ugly lady is Big Mom, in the show she is one of the 4 Emperor's, a title given to people who are so powerful that you don't fuck with them, they are deemed unkillable. The Shenron dragon dude is also an Emperor. Luffy's first thought when he hears about them is "I'm going to kick your ass".

Yeah 1000 episodes is fine when you only watch One Piece and nothing else, not like you'll want to watch anything other than One Piece once you get invested into it.
Once I hit water 7 I couldn't stop, it had my attention full blast. Took a brief pause after Marineford due to my mental wellbeing being obliterated.

I had to take a 3 week break after Marineford because I cried every time Luffy and Ace were on screen.
Since you asked, shit gets real at opening 1 of the entire show. Looking back at everything they have been through, my body just covers itself in goosebumps. :)

This show has over like 900 characters and I would say about 90% of them all have backstories. Odas the goat. And that big woman probably one of the scariest in the show and very scary lol
The guy with the orange hate and flames is Luffy's sake sworn brother, like how mafia people swear loyalty to each other and call each other brothers over that loyalty.
As for 'Shenrong', that dragon is known as Kaido, and like Linlin, he's another of the four Pirate Emperors.
Let you know? Well, since you asked, Donquixote Doflamingo, the guy with the pink stuff, is the last(currently anyways) of the Seven Warlords they have fought. Doflamingo is one of those types of villains you love to hate. A charming calculating absolute scumbag.
* Monkey D. Luffy is a rubber-man (Eaten the Gum-Gum Devil fruit which turns his body into rubber.)
* Roronoa Zoro uses three sword style (two in each hand and one in his mouth.)
* Sanji fights using only his legs.
* Nami use weather control with her staff.
* Usopp is a sniper with a slingshot.
* Tony Tony Chopper is a Reindeer that ate the Human-Human Devil Fruit.
* Nico Robin ate the Flower-Flower Devil Fruit which can sprout limbs anywhere as if they were flowers.
* Franky is a cyborg with weapons built into his body.
* Brook is someone who ate the Revive-Revive Devil Fruit which allowed his soul returned to his body after he died.
* Jinbe is a Fish-Man who knows various martial arts from his own people/race.

If your friends all watch One Piece then I bet they'd all tell you that you should NOT skip anything other than filler. Everything loses impact if you don't watch it all. The fights suck if you're not invested in it emotionally. One Piece is a story that thrives on it's world building and characters. Just about anything in Naruto is more impressive visually but to me it's all meaningless because I'm just not as emotionally invested in the characters.
Okay so the reason they have swords is that it's set in a time period of tech that's similar to about 1500s. That is, they only have flintlock pistols to use. Granted, there are some places that are further advanced - like Franky (robot guy) - but for the most part the world is stuck in that weird period where there were guns... but only ones that shoot once at a time. That said, they have other weapons that they can use.

And one of the most epic fights is Luffy vs. Katakuri, which lasts several episodes at the time due to being split among many episodes... because Luffy isn't the only one experiencing a hell of a situation at the time of the fight.

The orange hat guy is Luffy’s brother lol. A good fight to react to would be Luffy vs Lucci or Luffy vs Katakuri. Or if you want something from the most current arc and don’t mind some spoilers it would really cool to see you react to episode 1015! It’s objectively the best one piece episode and has insane animation! Great reaction!!

Personally, when it comes to Luffy, anytime anything having to do with the Pirate King comes up hes always serious, and right around Enis Lobby Luffy realizes what he has to be to fight for his crew and attain his dream. You start seeing Luffys serious side against Arlong, but these OPs where they start this latter half, things get realistically real for Luffy.
Edit: If you hoonestly don't care about spoils or ever plan to watch OP from the beginning, id recommend Luffy vs Katakuri as just the fight. It def showcases what the anime is about when it comes to fights, and currently Luffy vs Kaido isnt finished yet. There are plenty more fights, but Katakuri to this point was def the best one imo action wise. Emotionally or char/world building plenty others.

Yes there are hundreds or even Thousands of characters, almost everyone with their own Crew or group of friends, unique ability and character depth.
One Piece starts slow but adds to the overall plot with every new character and Episode.
Even Corupption,genocide and shit are common here.
Explained shortly:
They basically hop from Island to Island (about 1-3 openings each arc) fight the super evil and their Crew, we get new Friends and their backstories and the plot gets complexer and complexer.
And because you asked for an explanation for Luffy turning Black:
There is a power system called Haki that everyone can learn, helps with dodging attacks or having super senses. You can also cover you body parts in armament Haki, so they do "more damage" it is something like the force from Star Wars in a way. Normally it wouldnt have a colour but the author drew these parts black so the reader/watcher knows when a characters uses Haki

So you basically have 3 Options for One Piece from Slow to fast.
You could casually watch the Anime, 2 Episodes a day is probably recommended you´ll catch up in less then 2 years so definetly before the Series will eventually end.
Second option is to watch "One Pace" an ongoing Fan project cutting All the non canon materials and unnessacary throwbacks out and shortening One Piece to about 500 Episodes.
The third and fastest option is reading the Manga. You can catch up in like 2 to 4 months. Downside is you obviously don´t see the animation. Good Side is you can just read when and where you want

if you don't want to watch through the series I recommend reading the manga. The pacing of the anime is a bit iffy at times where each episode doesn't adapt a whole chapter. None the less both are excellent to consume.
Dude 1000+ episodes may seem daunting but it will only take you a short while. It's that good. You can always watch it arc by arc. That would be much easier. Might as well start now before it gets to 2000++ 😂
Btw that black luffy thing is haki like aura or chakra shit. He just summons it around his hands to make them harder
If you don't want to catch up to like thousands of episodes .Toei remaked the beginning arcs into 60-90 minutes movies FYI . This gets you like 300 episodes out of the way .To enjoy the rest in its HD 16:9 glory .Also look up what episodes are filler (non canon) . This gets you like another 140 episodes out of the way .Before you ppl complain let the man decide for himself . Not everyone has all the time in the world to watch stuff . That's why Toei made them in the first place so busy people get to catch up faster , You still can go rewatch the old stuff once your up to speed when you have to wait a week for the next episode to come out .

Yes, the show is long, but that's part of why it's so good. It's one continuous story that has the time and ability to tell a truly epic tale of adventure.
And yes, that's time you could be spending watching something else. However, nothing is keeping you from setting it aside and watching something else. However, you'll probably ask yourself the same question I and so many others did in the middle of our watch through: "I COULD watch this other show that's out right now ... but is it better than One Piece?" And the vast majority of the time, the answer to that question is "no".
If you wanna watch a fight, I'd suggest Luffy vs. Blueno. It's awesome, not too long, and you don't really need much context to enjoy it

You wanted to react to a One Piece fight.
Usually fights in this show are heavily related to the story and thus contain heavy spoilers so I'd advise against it. If you still want to react to one, I'd suggest the Smoker VS Dofflamingo fight. It's hard to find the full fight on youtube(from when Dofflamingo appears till when Aokijo comes in for the save). But if you can get someone to compile it for you, it'll be worth it

Luffy vs Bellamy is one of the best early fights that doesn't spoil you the show if you decide to watch the whole thing at some point.
Recommending fights with One Piece is tricky. A lot of the fights on youtube that don't spoil anything are like 2 min long and can't be made into a video really. Looking up full fights is the opposite, they are usually 20+ mins long and end with deep plot points or important power-ups. Yes, the power-ups are cool but they'll spoil you on something that is much more satisfying to watch along with the show. Fights from the movies are better cause they're not canon but they expect you to know the context of the show and are still relatively short.
Long story short, just watch the show for the fights.

I don't care about spoilers if you don't, but these seem to have given you some misconceptions wouldn't have had if you just watched the show. like why "beyblade guy" and luffy fought. beyblade guy's family basically blackmailed him into leaving the crew and into an arranged marriage and he didn't want his friends getting involved with his family. And the black energy people cover themselves in is something they learn to do around half way ish. the openings just confuse people who aren't actively consuming the series
