Ok, so these were pretty darn good today! If you'd like to see some other kitchen hacks put to the test, here's the playlist ruclips.net/video/jdKv_PUEL90/видео.html
For the lettuce one- put lettuce in a bag (you'll want to eat it, so a clean bag) WALLOP lettuce like you're trying to kill the thing, or it owes you money on the edge of the countertop. Open bag, remove stem, the rest is salad lettuce. I did this accidentally, once. Didn't have a bag, smacked it on the counter, and this amazing shower of lettuce bits happened. Exploded.
Please do more videos with your family. I love seeing you doing fun stuff with your family. Maybe do a kids cooking show, something where you make stuff with your kids that show that parents can let their kids help out with the cooking
For the lettuce you slam it stem down into the counter and it breaks the stem off... I do it all the time when we prepare lettuce for tacos... A couple should never play with whipped cream on camera; we all know it Always ends up on the internet!!! XD You've blanched the almonds... of course the skin comes off, but who doesn't eat the nut-skin??? The apple juice is genius!!!
Yep! One good hard "Thwack!" of the core/stem against the counter, and you can easily twist the core right out, then over to the sink for a quick veggie bath, voila, salad for dinner 😊🥗
Yup! Worked a prep station in a kitchen while I was in highschool and this was one of the best tips I picked up in order to make large bowls of salad much faster! It also makes washing/cleaning the lettuce way easier too!
The mangos were not ripe thats why it was difficult to peel, and you must hit the stem of the lettuce to remove it easily. I just love watching your videos especially when you bring in the family.
Mrs B was right about the bread, it is enough to just run it under the tap xD you can also put it on a grill toaster. We also only make the bottom side wet and it also works
To be honest I only know about blanching because I watch binging with babish and in his infinity war episode he blanched hazelnuts. So I recognised the whole scolding thing, and expected them to be shocked in an ice bath instead of just let them cool.
The almond is something we have been doing in Denmark since I can remember xD We use it for Christmas when we make Risalamande. We usually just press on one end of the almond and it pops out. It's a process we call "smutter mandler". Really like that for some reason xD
"You can eat almonds with the skin on right?" *Me sitting here having never eaten an almond with the skin off wondering where I've gone wrong...* Also, that's a canning jar. It's used for... canning. In retrospect I have no idea why they call putting things in glass jars "canning."
@@babybenz8872 Yes, they are mason jars, of course. However, the main point of mason jars is for "canning" purposes, hence the generic term for them is "canning" jars.

I do the freezer trick with the apples and I own a cider press. It works beautifully once you've frozen them. This is why here in New England cider season used to occur after the first hard freeze. Now we have freezers so we can do it even earlier! 😺
I've seen the peanut hack with the vacuum, but I think they used a coffee filter instead of the parchment paper. Maybe that will work better??? Great video!!!
I used to skin almonds like this as a kid for my mother when we were making Chirstmas pudding as Almonds with skin on were not that great in pudding. I used to love it, you would just squeeze and they would just pop out (and sometimes go flying across the counter.. lol)
wtaching the entire playlist of kitchne hacks from 1 to 37 as i love to see the progress but my god ive been laughing so much! absolutly love the bond you two have , dont ever change
Me: Why isn't Barry just running the baguette under a tap? Becky: Why didn't you just run it under the tap? Great minds ;) But it is a great hack. I use it often coz my local baker sells baguettes cheap if you buy 4 of them. Really makes life easier :)
Also known as 'blanched almonds' - often see the ingredient in older (usually baking) recipes. You can do the same with tomatoes, peaches, nectarines, some plums and other larger fruits that may need peeling
Tons of giggles and some great hacks. If I have a few stale buns I put them in a brown paper bag, wet the bag from the tap and toss the bag in the oven for a few minutes then have fresh buns for tea. Thanks for the laughs.
You guys are great! I love being able to watch your happy marriage in action. For the almonds, if the skins were dry they would float into the vacuum easier. (It’s also not good for anything damp to go into your vacuum, breaks the motor)
Mrs. B is a treasure and in her defense, I always walk like that when I'm eating a Mango on the Go-Go FYI The Almond process is called Blanching The Basil cut is a Chiffonade. Works great with Spinach, etc. for a fancy salad Bang the Lettuce bottom down and the core should pull right out I love when you do these with the Mrs. and the kids too
Oh my god, i love Mrs Barry. Most people on camera put on a character - like your girls play up the cute factor. but Mrs Barry is just so genuinely lovely! Not singing with you and so on. its just so real.
I worked as the salad prep person for a restaurant for years. The lettuce hack isn't a hack, it's fact. You hit the core on a flat surface firmly to break it loose from the leaves, it works every time.
Yup. Salad prep here too. Remove any outer leaves as needed, then one good whack of the stem end on a plastic cutting board. Pull out the stem and rip the lettuce into quarters, then use your hand to rip each quarter into approximately one inch pieces and keep in a plastic container. That way the lettuce doesn't brown as quickly because it never touched any metal.
That 'Flight of the Navigator' reference me realize how old I must be. I saw the movie when it first came out back in 1986. I had a huge crush on the main character, David.
Really enjoyed this video. There is something so wonderfully genuine about Mrs B and you both have wonderful chemistry together. This was a difficult day for me but thanks to you I'm ending it with a smile on my face.
Barry, the lettuce hack works by slamming the lettuce stem down, not on its side. Been doing that for ages to remove the lettuce stem and it works perfect! 👍🏻
I think the frozen apples juice trick could work really well, paired with a manual food mill! I thought you weren't supposed to run water over the bread then soak it. You're supposed to dunk the dry bread into water. But it turned out, and that's amazing! I think Flight of the Navigator doesn't need a reboot, but a sequel. Barry after watching this video i had a 'Kitchen Hack` barrython. The episode where you were trying to peel eggs by boiling them with sodium bicarbonate was so funny 😂 When you and Mrs Barry were blowing the eggs out of the shells, i was laughing so hard i was crying! Thanks for doing what you do. CHEERS!
I usually love these videos because of how bonkers you get withMrs Barry. But today you riffled off a Flight of the Navigator reference and then a Spice Girls reference and made my day
We've been boiling almonds to remove the skin every christmas for as long as I can remember. You just squeeze them between two fingers and they pop out. Easy and fun for busy little kids' hands.
Ive been making lettuce wraps for years and to get perfect leaves I hit the butt of the lettuce to break it and pull it off. It also helps the lettuce to last longer. Just put it with paper towel in a plastic bag in the fridge.
The lettuce bottom is called a core. Slam it on the core for a few whacks, twist the core and it pops out. Makes it easier to pull apart and to store the leftover leaves. Store in a ziplock bag with a piece of paper towel and it will keep fresh longer.
Oh my goodness i proper face palmed myself the moment barry took the baguette out of the baking tray. I completely agree with mrs barry run it under the tap lol

I love Mrs B so much. I've never heard anyone get shut down with the words "you can buy apple juice" before, but she executed that perfectly. 😂
Beautiful burn.
Becky was correct, you only need to run the bread under the tap, not drown the bugger! lol
Yup, I’m with Becky on this one
It’s true, My Nan also just splatters water over them and it works that way too.
@@shannon655 yes, my mom used to always splatter a bit of water on day-old bread before toasting it... it's waaaay better than just toasting it
Yep I agree.... Sorry Barry you're out voted on this one 🤣👍
Yep I Agree with Becky
Does anybody else absolutely adore The Barry’s relationship?? They both seem like such fantastic people ☺️💚
They are goals
yes such a cute relationship! literally goals
Barry: This looks like fun.
Becky: This looks like a lot of cleaning.
For the lettuce hack, hit the stem on the counter! It really does work!
It works way better than hitting it on the side. I've been hitting it on the stem my whole life 🤘
Agreed
I came to the comments to say this too you bash it on the stem and it comes right out

The basil one isn't really a hack, that's just how you do that - it's called a Chiffonade.
Yepp
I chop lettuce and cabbage that way too.
I thought Basil was the guy from Austin Powers
I was going to say the same thing. I was taught that in the restaurant.
Ok but us normals dont know that. If you have never been taught that then how on earth are we supposed to know.
The mangos were not ripe thats why it was difficult to peel, and you must hit the stem of the lettuce to remove it easily. I just love watching your videos especially when you bring in the family.
It's not a hack, we've been doing that for ages.
Lol he's not from America where some of these "hacks" are common knowledge
Yep, one good hard wack on the stem works every time
Maybe it's because I'm in Queensland Australia that this is obvious but they are crazy under ripe.

Mrs B was right about the bread, it is enough to just run it under the tap xD you can also put it on a grill toaster. We also only make the bottom side wet and it also works
4:19 Mrs.B is so tolerant. If I called my wife a donkey, it would be the last thing I'd ever say.

In this episode, Barry discovers blanched almonds and how to chiffonade basil. :)
Lol
Be kind! Learning is fun.
So the "hack" for the almonds is to blanch them?
Was thinking this exactly.. Cooking 101 haha
Right. Sometimes I truly wonder about these.
Hahaha my thoughts exactly!! 😂

To be honest I only know about blanching because I watch binging with babish and in his infinity war episode he blanched hazelnuts. So I recognised the whole scolding thing, and expected them to be shocked in an ice bath instead of just let them cool.

You should put the apples on the blender then strain it. I bet you'd get a lot more juice.
Or, take the remaining pulp and put through a food processor and make apple sauce or apple butter. Use that to make moist, deliscious apple cupcakes.
I do the freezer trick with the apples and I own a cider press. It works beautifully once you've frozen them. This is why here in New England cider season used to occur after the first hard freeze. Now we have freezers so we can do it even earlier! 😺
Wow Edward Shelds didn't know that. Hanks for sharing.

I was thinking this so the suction airflow can pass through
Ms. B: "Your chopping skills are better than mine."
