Nobody covers Sonic Youth- LOVE this song. You all were great! If I don't score anything at the Asheville Guitar Show this weekend Imma hit you up for that black Jazzy (or the Sherwood strat)-
I'm a metal influenced guitar player who recently got into dream pop and shoegaze so I did some research and discovered the Jazzmaster. I wanted to challenge myself to start writing music completely out of my realm based on my new found appreciation for a musical style that heavily relies on effect pedals which I also have almost no knowledge of. I'm used to finding the perfect tone on an amp meant for heavy music, pedals are so new to me, but I love chase, the ever-expanding chase of sound. Shoutout to Chicago Music Exchange for convincing me that this was the right guitar for me! I love the black painted headstock and messing around with the floating tremolo arm! You guys rock! Keep doin what your doin!
Not even a close second after this one. Nay far the best songs and versions you have done. Throughly entertained. However, J Mascis has to be on towards the top of this list. Left out a great one
Andertons and CME often have similar "special runs" or exclusives from Fender. The combination orders of the two powerhouse gear sellers is what makes the production costs make sense for Fender.
Unless you’re in a band that sounds like that, I wouldn’t bother .. the jazz master craze is overrated just like the Gibson craze was overrated back in the day.. Every working guitar has it’s pluses and minuses. You just need the guitars that appeal to the style of music you need to create. If the concern is having a guitar with the P90 type pickups there are probably better choices, but they weren’t clear (?) as to whether there were P 90s in that guitar or not, unless I missed it. Oh I just saw the write up on the pick ups I don’t know, sounds like a cross between a single coil and a humbucker just like a P90 to me.. it might be slightly different, but I’m sure they’re pretty similar because they fall in between two extremes; also the same pick ups on a Fender will sound inherently different on a Gibson and vice versa due to instrument resonance.
@@ctop ? Lotsa guitars go twang .. your technique and your setup can make them go twang. I guess I was just assuming that you already have other guitars, probably a bunch. After I got about a half a dozen of them I realized that I have to be careful and pick and choose which ones I really need because sometimes you think you need or want something and then later on it turns out that you could’ve worked around it some other way without wasting more cash and storing yet another piece of gear. Yes, you can become a prisoner of your possessions, and heaven help you if you don’t stay rich enough to deal with having the stuff in your possession. That old “better to have loved and lost” cliche doesn’t work out so well mentally on musical equipment ..
@@shipsahoy1793 this is incorrect - jazzmaster single pups are nothing like p90s or humbuckers. Also, instrument resonance plays a significantly smaller, nearly immeasurable role in a solid body electric guitar. the strings, pup position, set up, fret height, picking intesity etc play a much bigger role than the wood's slight density changes
I got the ice blue version of these at a b-stock discount because of a bad pot, and it's such a great way to get a good JM at a lower price. The neck is a step below the American JM but right on par with my Japanese and Mexican Fenders.
I really like the sound of these exclusive jazzmasters. Thinking about getting a sunburst but, I wish you had a version in Arctic or Polar White with black pickguard though.
when you first begin your cover of Kool Thing i was sure you were about to play Highway Star by Deep Purple which would have also been amazing as i love Ritchie Blackmore as well as being a long time fan of Sonic Youth
Awesome job on the video and performances! It seems like you guys updated the saddles to be mustang ones now! Also do these come with an angled neck pocket or a shim installed? I might have to pick one up soon :)
I want one of these Jazz, but I hate that the tone knobs have been removed. I know the guitar is routed to have them added… how difficult/expensive is it to add them so this is really like a Jazz from the past? Olive one speaks to me soooo much
@@hoover728 yeah that sounds like it could be right; the neck alone would also sound darker than the parallel setting and having series as all-the-way-forward is somewhat standard. but i think the way it was described in the video above wasn't right.
I thought the same thing! All the way towards the neck should be both in series, makes more sense. Sounded that way as well in the demo. That said, need that olive one in my life!
Thx for showing these Jazzmasters, the surf sounds were pretty amazing. But the rest of the 11 minute video you were talking misinformed bs, sorry to say that.
Hmm. To this old-timer, a Jazzmaster just is not a Jazzmaster without the brilliantly designed rhythm circuit which allows for full, bassy rhythms to be thrown to treble leads with the flick of a switch. But of course, nowadays, bassy rhythms are a thing of the past, as everybody is treble crazy and claim that bottom end guitar interferes with an instrument that is two octaves below it, often called, a "bass."
I do appreciate the newer sounds that a lot of groups are creating today. Like the style you just mentioned. However, you gotta have regard for the classic sound that the JM was designed for and to ride without the rhythm circuit as a standard feature is kinda senseless. If you want to do the treble thing, just leave the circuit off. But I guarantee that anyone with the rhythm circuit available, will find a way to work it into their mix eventually.
to me what makes a Jazzmaster a Jazzmaster is the right pickups, jm, mustang or other slightly modded bridge (no tune-o-matic) the proper spacing between the bridge and the trem for the overtones and the tremelo. For it to not have the is fine, I don't have much use for mine and if this can be a more inexpesive way into getting into a "real" jazzmaster with the fender name instead of a squire I say great. @@charlie-obrien
I'm about to buy one. On the other hand, this video seems really contrived and disingenuous as far as it's obviously an advertisement. Seem like nice people but nothing more than an ad. You may have just gone ahead with the "shimmering high, growling mids and low lows that make this guitar an amazing deal!" rant lol. I get it, it's the store moving product more than a true review.

Man you guys have been picking out some great material for the full band stuff. More people should cover television
I need a Nathaniel cover of the Marquee Moon solo in my life!
Thank you!!
Thank you for playing actual JM-flavored music instead of blues wankery for the demo!
Love this hahaha. You definitely have a point in saying that 😂

same boat. gonna get the limited purple and put a black pickguard on
I randomly found this gear demo video and got blown away by that spot on performance of Kool Thing - love it!
Y'all go above and beyond on these
We try!! Thank you!
I was just thinking this morning about when y'all would do another Jazzmaster video. Perfect timing.
Wow! Wild coincidence!
Fantastic closing Jam! Epic Vocals!
elizabeth rocks! love and jazzies, john.

Sure is!
Just bought one and you are correct!
How does it play ? Anything you don’t like about it ?

Beautiful covers. That "Kool Thing" version really came out special. Come to Europe!!
Totally incredible cover of Kool Thing! For some reason I thought only SY could sound like SY. KILLER!! And of course, gotta go with the Black!!
For those in the UK, Andertons have these too
I plan to order the olive green one from them.

Exactly what I just did but shell pink
@chicagomusicexchange What's the story with the pink one having the trem lockout while the others are lockless?
Great jam!
maybe you can show the Squier Classic Vibe Late '50s Jazzmaster for the next video

Definitely seem to be pre-angled, which together with the bridge, keeps the strings in place well.

how do u go about installing the rhythm circuit? I can't find a pickgurad with the fourway and rhythm circuit slot
What song does SAM play with the black JM??
It's called "The Stray" from his band Kali Masi. Check them out!
Television get a thumbs up every time.
I know this is an older video, but does anyone know if you can keep the 4 way switching and also install a rhythm circuit (giving you 5 options)?

I'm pretty sure you're mixing up the parallel/series positions. Series is WAY fatter than parallel. Anyways, cool guitars and cool demo:)
Omg I want one
Get one while you can!!
Thanks for watching!
I wish the green one came with the gig bag like the others :(
it sounds like you labeled the parallel/series as positions 2/3 backwards; it should sound darker in series (pushes up glasses)
