It's David inventing the Pink Floyd sound that we all know and love... Roger was the words... But David along with Richard on the keys were the men who moulded the sound.
Although Roger didn’t pen the words on this song. David asked him to and Rog told him to get stuffed. Apparently Gilmour was embarrassed by the lyrics he wrote which is in part the reason the vocals are buried in the track by the instruments.
I LOVE it when you do Pink Floyd. I was born in the 60s and totally grew up with 70s music. Watching you groove makes it all new again. Keep on rockin!
Yesss at last hahaha! This album was the band members bringing their solo contributions, sort of a brainstorming session for the band to find its footing after losing Syd Barret. One newcomer to the band did this: David Gilmour. By the end of this track, he had invented the new Pink Floyd sound that would lead to Echoes. This is a true gem and I'm so glad tou finally got to it!
I was one of those guys who highly recommended you (and others) listen to the Narrow Way (part III especially). Parts I and II are great, but the sound, the feeling, the trippy quality of the last part is out of this world. It captures the quintessence of that Pink Floyd sound. Another early Floyd track you should definitely react to is the beautiful Cirrus Minor. Hope you can get to it soon.
This album was an experiment in music and sound. They learned a lot as is evident in their later work. If you get a chance check out "Several Small Species of Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave Grooving with a Pict". Yes, it is weird as the title suggest. Thanks for the reaction!! "Grantchester Meadows" is very good song as well.
Oh hell yeah!
"Grantchester Meadows" is a much more listenable early Floyd song.
i hear this and i'm transported back 47 years to the summer of 1977 when i was 16 yrs. old sitting in my dimly lit, smoke filled bedroom listening to this over and over. ummagumma is so overlooked, i'm really glad you've found it. one live album, one studio album, pure genius.
Mine too. I was so stoned I missed my senior prom.
But I listened to it on a quadraphonic system.
1970 for me. Our music teacher, Mr Farmer, played it in class one day and I was immediately blown away and have been a Floyd fan ever since. That 14 year old has forever been indebted to Mr Farmer.❤
Every time....Every time I see you are going to do a Pink Floyd song.....I get so excited because they are my favorite band of all time. I just can't wait to see what it's going to do to you as I too feel the music the same way. It's been 50 years or more since I fell in love with these guys and it NEVER gets old to me. Great job on a great song....please keep it going.❤❤❤
Music that can make u trip without drugs. Especially the start of part 3
Amen! Don't need chemicals. Use the music to trip out and go on a journey.
There is something so soothing in David Gilmour's voice. Can't get enough.
Worth noting that all instruments and vocals by David Gilmour. Each band member got a qtr of an album to record on their own
3 words Atom Heart Mother you need to dig into it its a 23 min long song with a full orchestra playing behind the boys, cheers.
Yet another Pink Floyd track I haven't heard before! Thanks Mark! That was a trip.
Ummagumma is British slang for “Sex” at least on the Cambridge scene. The whole album is a trip. “Grantchester meadows” and several species of small fury animals,. Gathered in a cave,.. and grooving with a pict. Must listens. Thank you bro!!!!!🔥✌️
Love the way you are, don’t change, be yourself. Do you have there first album in your playlist ? “Pipers at the gates of Dawn”.
Had co-workers who were Pink Floyd fans, that's how I was introduced to them. I'm sure I never heard this, I would have definitely remembered this.
Just brilliant!
You're on a journey listening to the greatest music ever made. In my view, there's not enough swearing!
It's always great to go back to the early roots of Pink Floyd 😊
An amazing tune
You should check out several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a pict from the same album.
This album came out in 1969, about a week before my 9th birthday. My 16 year old brother bought the album and I've been loving it ever since.
ah puts a smile back on my face. you be you
Narrow Way Pt. 2 is the soundtrack for when you enter Bat Country.
Wow: Deep cut from Ummagumma, an album (itself a bit of a deep-cut in their discography) that had four pieces of music, one from each one of the band members, among other tracks. "The Narrow Way" was David Gilmour's contribution.
Most folks will say Wish you Were Here. Dark Side or The Wall are the best Pink Floyd. Yes they are good I agree but their earlier works are still my favorites Their start and how they grew and changed their music through those years... sounds Priceless )
I love the way you enjoy Pink Floyd! Helps me enjoy Pink Floyd!
Good evening Mr. Hector. Tonight's fix of ADHD magic! Thank You. 🤩🤓
While on this album Mark, try 'Several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a Pict' Pukka track. Keep up the good work!
Back when I was at school, around 'O' level time, going on 'A' levels, when I had money to buy my own records, it was this, and 'Yessongs' [ another mighty recommendation ] that I played nearly to death. My parents must have known it too, and probably hated it.
Mark, it’s time to “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun”
For those of us who know the whole of this part of the album, and listening carefully to part II, you can hear the experiments that Roger was to turn into 'Several species ......' during his own quarter of the album.
PLEASE READ MR SQUEEZE!!!!!!! -------> PLEASE react to another song on this album that I have been requesting in your comment section for a LONG TIME. CAREFUL WITH THAT AXE EUGENE It is a LIVE recording that showcases the amazing ability of Pink Floyd to weave a whisper-quiet beginning and build dynamics to an orgasmic climax and then come back down again. This level of artistry only comes from years of playing together and knowing every move your bandmate will make next. The other thing I love about this song is that it was recorded before the band made it mainstream with Dark Side. The audience is respectful and doesn't make a peep until the very last cymbal tap is made. AMAZING!!!!! BONUS suggestion: Same album, a song that will fry your fragile brain ----> SEVERAL SMALL SPECIES OF ANIMALS GATHERED TOGETHER IN A CAVE AND GROOVING WITH A PIC. You are welcome! :) Keep doing what you do!!
tyler childers covered pink floyd's time, at the basement, in nashville tennessee, you have to hear that, its everything you love all in one performance and lucky for you, theres a youtube upload of it
hes the scarface of appalachian music
Just as albums like this were recorded on 4 & 8 track machinery, using analogue tape etc, compared to 128 track digital desks like today, even that album art was a masterpiece. Nowadays, a competent digital graphic artist or photoshop artist could knock that up in 5 minutes, and probably make a coffee in the middle. But, that was done with analogue film, emulsion on celluloid, and wet chemical processed. Then, the image[s] had to be carefully enlarged to appropriate size, cut out and physically overlaid onto another photo, before 'bouncing down' that onto a new photo, then repeat, and repeat.
There's a special name for this type of 'photo within a photo' type of image, which I can never remember. But this is one of the classic, off cited examples.
Droste effect.
The first part is reminiscent to "The Blue" by David Gilmour
Mad one this
The 'Sisyphus' [Rick Wright ] & 'Grand Vizier's Garden Party' [ Nick Mason ] sections are slightly harder listens.
Oh no we need the swearing that's how I rate how good a song is how many many times ma4k says fuck you or tells and artist to fuck off llol
Are you ready? Time for "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict." I think it was one of Roger Waters' contributions to this album. It's absolutely bonkers.
OMG HECTOR
TJIS WILL BLOW YOUR MIND!!
I kept hearing that there was a theory that the dark side of the moon album and the wizard of oz were meant to go together
So I finally found it
A playlist of
THE dark side of the rainbow 🌈
It is soo trippy and it does seem that way
Even if you don’t react I’m dying to know your thoughts 💭 on it
Playlist- dark side of the rainbow

I would love to see you react to El Estepario Siberiano's cover of Blinding Lights. This might be the one thing that makes all facets of your brain focus. Trust me that you've never seen anything like it. Your reactions are the absolute BEST and El Estepario is the absolute BEST at what he does...PLEASE!!!
The other disc is just 4 tracks, live recordings of their longer songs, Astronomy Domine, Careful with that axe, Eugene, Set the controls for the heart of the sun, and A saucerful of secrets.
Lyrics can be good [ they can also be pretty crap ]. Riffs, and 'tunes' can be great too. But some bands, notably PF, The Beatles, & surprisingly the Beach Boys, were going into exploring " sounds" and " soundscapes" as parts of their music.
Bear in mind that this is long before 'digital', computers [ they existed, but were merely slow number crunchers ] and synthesizers. What synths there were, were all analogue. Most 'effects' were done with tapes ( There was the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, who gave us the original Dr Who Theme.[qv Delia Derbyshire ] ). There were artists exploring these areas ( Stockhausen, Terry Riley & others and later 'KrautRock' bands like Tangerine Dream, especially as the electronics improved slowly.- Dr Robert Moog was already making waves in America ).
This phase of PF, and their development of " Musique Concrete" was the main exposure of the wider world to this genre, apart from the aforementioned Beatles & Beach Boys, and a growing number of 'Progressive' bands.
The Beatles had already given us backwards sounds, by recording something, and threading it backwards into a tape machine for playback & re-record. They had also come up with extended tape loops, and varying the recording /playback speeds of tapes. In effect, they had created what we would now call 'sampling', but they didn't have the VAST amount of material to sample that we have now.
There's an album called 'Atom Heart Mother'. One side is the eponymous 'suite'. It has taken me the best part of 40-50 years to get my head around it, and I have listened to some seriously WEIRD shit.
Due to touring commitments, the band recorded the backing drums & bass, and left it as a single bounced down track on tape, on which their orchestral arranger laid a full orchestra & choir, and then PF returned and laid on some 'musique concrete' [MC ], and David & Rick 'magic'.
The 'B' side has more weirdness, through 'Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast', which is lots more pastoral guitar work, like part I of The Narrow Way, mixed with some SERIOUS MC.
As I say, I listened many, many times, before it clicked.
This does NOT constitute a 'recommendation'. I've heard loads of people say that it's the greatest thing that early PF ever did..
Hi Mark Hector ❤love this one, as usual😊 Have you heard Too Much by Dave Matthews?? Its a really good tune.❤
When a green track Davis Gilmour actually play all the instruments absolutely sensational amazing track
Off this album I would definitely recommend Careful with that axe eugene the beautiful granchester meadows set the controls for the heart of the sun saucer full of secrets i love this album not many people do and the band members wasn't that keen but don't let that put you off listening have a open mind
Check out part 3 recorded for the BBC.
I suggest some solo Gilmour from his two albums from late 70s/early 80s. All the songs are titled. First album is called David Gilmour, the second is About Face. Pick any songs you want, they're that good. A suggestion to start from both is "Short And Sweet" and "Murder".
Great reaction as usual! I am a long time sub, but don't often comment - I'm long winded lol! So I mostly lurk. I really think you should try reacting to the Tribute to Pink Floyd done by one of my favorite bands. The tribute (NOT a cover) song is High Hopes by Nightwish. Its a Pink Floyd song off their Division Bell album. Nightwish also has a HUGE catalog of music to go through. High Hopes is sung by their bassist, but 99.9% of their songs are sung by their female lead vocalist. Live shows are always the way to go with Nightwish. They are one of the tightest bands I've ever seen Live, right up there with the band Tool - which I also think you'd love bc of the deep lyrics. For now, try High Hopes Live from End of An Era by Nightwish.
The Nightwish Army will come and kindly help in your Nightwish journey. Expect "General" Gabriel to leave you a very helpful message with info on the band and many links so you don't have to search them out for many of their songs. I really hope that you can react to them and hope you like them enough to continue exploring their vast catalog! They have been around since 1996.
Thanks for sharing all of your musical journeys with us! I really appreciate your humor and your thoughts, Mark! Sending you & your family blessings from Alabama!
I definitely recommend fearless by Pink Floyd. And if you by chance listen to obscured by clouds again play the first two songs back to back. Definitely will not be disappointed. Love you brother.
I was going to say about the album cover infinity picture when you suddenly spotted it! Well done 👏 So as a result... I will reveal what 'Ummagumma' means!..
It is Cambridge slang for 'Fucking' 😅
You're welcome 😊
Just incase you're not aware because you haven't done any Ren the last few days. Ren is performing at SGP this weekend for the first time in 5 years!! A whole 2 hour extravaganza! It's going to be ABSOLUTELY EPIC!!
firesign theater
yo mark you should watch the original wizard of oz volume off and listen to pink floyd dark side of the moon. they link up vocals to movie. but you have to start the music when the movie credits say directed by. its trippy

Superb 😂
Una delle 2 uniche copertine dei loro album dove possiamo vederli...l'unica con David Gilmour
L' altra è del loro primo album THE PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN l'unica dove si vede SYD BARRETT.
Pink floyd and Brainsqueeze one good combination as always, love from France.
May I recommend Aerosmith : Dream on for an Eminem fan like you.
Excellent choice, I recommended Dream On for a Brain Squeeze Reaction too!
Hey baby it's your favorite stalker from Toronto I haven't been chatting with you much lately I suppose I've been replaced😅😅😅😅 it's 8:00 p.m. on a Saturday night in Toronto I'm quite buzzed😅😅😅 and I am going down a rabbit hole of brain squeeze reactions some of my favorites I watch over and they are Teddy Pendergrass Al Green Teddy swims add Aaron Neville by the way you've never paused as much and started over for any video I've seen as much as for Aaron Neville😊😊😊😊 blessings to you and yours you wonderful man
I think this album was largely disowned by the group members maybe that is the reason its not on your play list its definitely on mine
Bro please listen to One Of These Days, it’ll blow your mind
When the notes sort of flow and bend into each other, they aren't out of tune. There are no notes, there. Just psychedelic.
Totally agree feels in parts like I should be sittin In front of a lava lamp mellow
Ummagumma was a bit of a "filler". A two vinyl set, one record was a live set. The second was four separate sections, a quarter of each disk of the members own more or less "solo" contibutions. Water's "Granchester Medows" is wonderful. And then his " Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict" is whimsical ( Being charitable there ).
The following is right out Wikipedia :
Gilmour has since stated he was apprehensive about creating a solo work, and admits he "went into a studio and started waffling about, tacking bits and pieces together", although part one of "The Narrow Way" had already been performed as "Baby Blue Shuffle in D Major" in a BBC radio session in December 1968. Gilmour said he "just bullshitted" through the piece. He asked Waters to write some lyrics for his compositions, but Waters refused to do so. The third part of the suite was briefly performed live in early 1969.
Even when the Floyd were at their worst.............They were great
This is an unusual Pink Floyd piece in that it is actually only one member doing all the instruments and vocals.
Ummagumma was a double LP album. The first LP was a collection of live performances. The second LP was studio work with each member doing their own work.
The Narrow Way parts I-III is all guitarist and singer David Gilmour.
fuck hector its called the wizard of pink floyd and its on youtube
For me, "Ummagumma" is a completely dispensable album. As are those that came before it. THey only led to what came after. For me, Pink Floyd is worthy of interest (and adoration) from 1970.
(Feel free to add as many "fuck" as you need!) ;)
