Since I start to watching your videos, my game become better every day! I am a hobby player, start to play again after 10 years, and these videos are very helpful! Thank you very much!!!
Thank you for teaching the correct steps for volleys. AMAZING presentation. Now I have much more confidence to hit my volley! Thanks . 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
By having the racket upright, higher than the grip, you create an L shape in the racket and arm. This position will give you force (leverage) over the ball when hitting and gets the hand in a strong position to support the racket during the contact zone
I've watched the davis cup last year and the doubles (Bruno Soares and Marcelo Melo) are just amazing when playing together. Bruno (used on the video) has such good hands, his first volleys on the T are one of the best i've ever seen.
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial Hi Simon , i have some shoulder problems so recently i started to experiment to keep my arm more loose and less firm during play ..it works well, it relieves my shoulder & helps me with more power also ... but would love to hear your take on it thx
Thanks a lot man! I keep giving losing on volleys because my swings were much too wide, and I'd extend too far. I've finally started to get it down now, and my swings are typically small and effective (unless it's a high volley of course)
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial I think what I still need to work on are my serves and smashes, so unless you've already covered those, that's what I'd suggest
Dont forget that continental grip for volleys! Very important. I find my self accidentally switching my grip in between my forehand and backhand volleys.
Thanks good information… Though I think I would've liked it if you had the camera on the other side of the net so I can see actual positioning at the net
Hey Simon, do you have any tips on how to hit a volley with that quality spin to keep the ball low and deep? I swear some players have it and some don't (I dont!)
You can produce different spins by adjusting the face of the racquet, at the point of contact. The most important facet of this aspect is that you keep the racquet head level with the ball
Can you speak to the moment in time where your racket connects to your hand, then arm and torso then full body to the ground though you feet. Where the power comes from. .
Awesome tutorial, Simon. I struggle with the forehand volley as I cannot get myself to maintain a continental grip on the forehand side. As much as I understand the importance of that grip, I find myself volleying with a semi-western. In this, I have a lot of off frame hits....very frustrating. No problem on the backhand side though. The semi-western is my forehand grip and yet even when I position the racquet for the continental to hit a forehand volley, I somehow in the swing, re-position the racquet to the semi-western. Crazy, I know. Thoughts?
911GNX That's a common problem for many players, in extreme cases I have put tape around the players hand and racket then forced them to play with the continental grip
Top-Tennis-Training Master Your Game Well, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one. I may tape that racket up myself....LOL! Thanks again Simon, I really appreciate your educational videos and the time you spend responding to postings like mine.
Thank you for the comment Normally I do keep a bit more of a bend but in this clip was overemphasizing the short swing and the contact point in front. Was also a bit stiff here, only after uploading I saw how funny it looked lol
bro but what do you do with the wrist, do you keep it tightly gripped before and during contact? or must it be relaxed before contact and at contact you tighten it? causing like a small whip action?
It all depends on the type of volley you're hitting, low vs high vs power vs drop volley etc Here we explain more in depth about the volley technique - ruclips.net/p/PLJP-Wou-v6z2PIJMEcb_87_haEzHA4X9r
In the clip "top doubles players using small swings on volleys", whom seems to be Mcenroe, you can see that he doesn´t move his right or left legs forward during his volleys, I´m used to volley like that and when I think about putting the left or right leg forward during the volley i´m too slow, Should i Change it or it doesn´t matter that much?
I do tend to swing too much as well as to pick up the ball behind me (which at times is great). I also tend to wait with my racket toward the side with is not good for the forehand volley. :(,. Any drills or mental picture I could use to correct this, to get a compact volley? On the ready position would you say that it is a good thing to be able to see above the racket head pointing upward as I see you on doing the vid? That is of course because you are big too.
Bruno Coutant Hi Bruno I would say that would be a good start position A good drill would be to stand in front of a wall or fence and get someone top feed you volleys The wall or fence would stop you from swinging too much
Is it the grip of forehand volley and backhand volley are the same? Bc I only use continental grip in both side. Should I switch my grip to eastern grip for my backhand?
Most tennis instruction videos are wayyy too long and therefore unhelpful. This one is GREAT. I especially like the written tips at 0:49

Good stuff! Didn’t really understand how the proper ready position creates “Leverage” though.

Hey, you're a great instructor. Nice job breaking things down. It'd be awesome if you could do a footwork volley drill video.

Tight enough that the racket doesn’t move too much at contact but trying to stay as relaxed as possible

As loose as possible, whilst still controlling the racket.

Continental is what you want for both shots. Side note: The continental grip is the most versatile grip.
