Sometimes you just need to take a break when you feel stuff like that since if you force it and play more, not only will you play like absolute garbage but also destroy your hand completely. I think Cookiezi also has similar type of hand issues (or maybe even worse idk) but its interesting to see how both of yall handle it. Anyways great vid bro keep it up 👍

Something that no one seems to talk about is how dangerous hand and wrist pain is, and how to deal with it.
I'm a dental student, so I'm taught a lot of wrist exercices to avoid carpal tunnel, tendinitis, and injuries in general and I think the most valuable advice I can give to anyone is: If your wrist or hand starts hurting, STOP IMMEDIATLY AND CLOSE THE GAME. Muscles can be pushed to extremes, tendons cannot. Always do wrist exercices and warm up with maps that are not too crazy. Also, don't extend your sessions more than necessary.
Your hands are important, take care of them.

when you actually got a damage, it's no longer something that can be recovered with break
I can relate to this so much even though I'm playing on a different mode. I experienced almost the same by playing 3 years of osu!mania.
plus, when it comes to the later period of the game, it hurts your hands even more if your playstyle is not correct
I've been continuing the treatment journey ever since 2021 but it didn't go any better. (It's comfirmed to be permanent)
Health is way more important than anything in life, make sure to not exceed the limit, try not to be injured.
    That's all I can say.

There are new treatments for bone and tendon damage that reached degenerative states (meaning the injury is self-sustaining and rest does not solve the issue) that seem to be effective.
Look into peptides and novel physiotherapy protocols employed by top level sport teams (a lot of the old physiotherapy wisdom that is still applied by most professionals is scientifically outdated and has been for a while).
Ofc if anyone decides to go the pharmaceutical route, don't buy grey market stuff online and seek help from doctors and trustworthy individuals

Got immense wrist pain back in 2015, since then it hasn't completely healed, though the only thing that has actually helped me since then is weightlifting. Treat your osu sessions the same way as a workout. Putting all this pressure on your hands as you gradually get better at the game requires enough rest between the sessions. What I would recommend is hitting the gym 2-3 times a week, gym days are osu rest days, and gym rest days are osu days, though whenever you feel like some inconvenient injury is lurking just fully quit the game for a week to let it heal completely

I had been so infatuated with improving and pushing my limits that I never really stopped and considered the risks that come from it. Thoughout the past year and a half of grinding occasionally the pain would persist for a few hours, sometimes days after a session. I feel like ive been incredibly lucky that every time that happened it would go away on its own after a week.

It is not worth injuring yourself because of a game, breaks are so important when you play a lot, no need to force yourself to play and it's no fun to play when you injure yourself in the process. This type of injury really makes you realize just how important it is and wrist injury is no joke. Safe recovery and take care of yourself :)

One of my fingers has started going numb because of playing Osu, I can tell because I have a lot less sensation in it after my Osu sessions. I believe this may be a symptom of a pinched nerve, and I never took it seriously until I watched this video. I have other medical problems unrelated to my hands and arms, and I also live in Canada so I understand how frustrating the healthcare system can be. Thank you so much for sharing this, a lot of players push themselves too far because they want to improve and end up irreversibly injuring themselves. I will now take much more frequent breaks, and keep your story in mind when I’m playing. I wish you well in your recovery, and it makes me disappointed to hear the Canadian healthcare system has neglected you.

I think my real fear of this happening to me is why my play count each month is consistently so much lower than the people around me. I used to play mania obsessively, then my wrists started hurting. Then when I didn’t quit, they started hurting worse. I ended up injuring my wrists so bad one day that when I went to class after a mania secession, I was struggling to hold a pencil and write… I went straight to a doctor who told me it was a stress caused injury and that I needed to give my wrists a break… I ended up mostly quitting mania and took a pretty serious break from standard as well. I fell in love with other video games, games that don’t put as much stress on my wrists, and after most of a year my wrists don’t hurt much anymore. They’re not fixed, I still can’t bend them a specific way or I get a lot of pain, but I happens, and I still play standard and mania sometimes, and I am very very slowly still getting better as a player…. But it makes me sad to see my progress stagnating because of a physical limit in my hands.
Im not sure where I’m really going with this except to say that I relate. The pain in my hands isn’t worth the fun I had. Warm up, do stretches, don’t force yourself straight into high bpm anything 5 minutes into your session. Protect your hands and wrists, you’ll regret it if you don’t.

Project Diva/Taiko no Tatsujin player here, and I had this exact thing happen to me. Played PD almost every single day, peaking at 38th nationally on a select difficulty. After years of playing, I started feeling pain in my wrists along with tingling and numbness, and the pain's only gotten worse after a couple of years. I go to occupational therapy now, and it helps a little. Apparently I was predisposed to this kind of injury, and now I've ended up with Ulnar nerve entrapment (or Cubital Tunnel) lol. Thankfully, I know of other people who have had these problems fixed, through extensive therapy and/or surgery to release pressure on the compressed nerve. It's rough to see other people end up with similar issues from playing rhythm games. I really hope everything goes well for you! No one should have to go through this.

There is a point of strain and a point of pain, you should never push too hard to the point where you are just in a lot of pain, some pains can be normal like soreness and those you NEED breaks for.
I have been playing Taiko for around 3 years now when I also say, every once in a while.. just take a break. It provides not only a physical refresh but also a mental refresh. It can be in the span of you play one day and stop playing next and so on, or you play a little while(like a month) then take a half a week or a weeks break. Everyone has their limits and everyone has different limits, but you must ALWAYS take care of your body and ALWAYS be careful, but not so careful that you just mentally skill block yourself. Play the game how you like, but just take care in doing so, take care of your body. I hope you get your physical therapy and have the opportunity to start healing, you got lots of potential waiting to be unleashed my guy👍

Im in my first year of kinesiology/physioteraphy and, although im no one to give advise yet, i tell you that the best doctor u could have is yourself.
Nerve pain can be increased by stiffness in the area (lack of streching and strength) and inflammation. Idk if you already do things like working out or having a healthy diet but that is the typical stuff. Due the length of the injury u may think the way to recover is to stop doing stuff and resting; which is not that good. U need to try to regain the range of motion/activation by pushing to the point it doesn't hurt. Maybe even slowly playing osu again may help as it could be a traumatism (basically rather than the nerve still being fucked up the brain still thinking the nerve is fucked so it sends pain to avoid usage) and the more u use it the more your brain realized it actually works well again

I also got injured but only on the finger level, more specifically left hand’s middle finger. Got into too much DT, my left hand’s middle finger would still occassionally hurt if I strain it by extensively playing osu or carrying heavy items causing load on the middle finger. It has been like this for like 4, maybe 5, years now, and I’ve learnt to accept that it might not go away. I am fairly happy to be able to still live a mostly normal life. You know osu is like a sport, the thing you need to improve is your muscles in your arm. And like every sport, if you try too hard you’ll be wrong cuz your body needs to adapt slowly to protect yourself and never reach a dangerous point. In any sport this time is very important and this is why you need to be patient.
When it hurt, your brain is trying to say to you "hey stop it’s too much, don’t go further"
If you wanna improve healthy you need first of all to train the correct muscles (look at your arm when you are streaming, I doubt it’s just about the muscles in your fingers that are important) secondly, try hard until it hurt a little but not further, and finally be patient 🙂.

They played CSS (counter-strike source) bhop and the genre forced him to do insanely fast and precise mouse movements.
He kept iron willing himself through the pain and eventually it led him to getting RSI (repetitive strain injury).
He loved bunnyhop, that's why he kept going
He was a legend among all of the bhoppers; just like you are in the osu community.
But he had to put down the game because of the years of strain he put on his arms playing the game.

I'm doing better now though, it's been a couple of years and I'm glad that I stopped playing that game. When I decided to stop though I tried to do some exercises for my wrist, it did helped easen the pain and I kept doing it until today. The only sad part is that when I try to do any strenuous, the pain comes back, even if it's just carrying a ladder or my toolbox hurts a bit.
And thankfully I started working out last year, not just to compensate for my hand but to better my lifestyle. From playing osu for hours everyday to finally going out to do calisthenics at a park and actually enjoying life.

Forced me to quit mania and later on standard too because I just couldn't grip my pen from the pain, now I play taiko and it's reasonable in terms of intensity but yeah, pain never really stops
I wish you the best of luck to get cured at some point, tho it's probably just as unlikely for you to get helped for it.

2 years ago, I pushed myself too hard on a tournament, and gave up in the middle of a map. As I have been playing osu! with almost no breaks since 2014, I was used to being in a bit of pain. That day, however, was different. I remember I could not even flip a page of a book with my left hand without experiencing some very, very intense pain. It got a bit better after a few painful days. Now, I avoid high BPM maps and overall pp grind. I also very much agree with that 'base level pain' that never goes away even when doing absolutely nothing. So ye - these things should be taken seriously, because even something people casually joke about in the community can become very real.

The weird thing about injury is that it can be hard to fight against if you're unsure of what to do.
Personally I take frequent breaks, even inbetween singular beatmaps. Also stretches are good.
When I played with tablet, I often used my wrist to aim entirely and it started hurting even when trying to fc shorter maps, so before it got too bad I just decided to aim with mouse, and after I got used to it, it felt much much better (especially because i subconsciously use way more of my arm to aim). If you don't want to go all out transitioning into mouse or other input devices I can recommend trying for a larger tablet area and see if that helps anything.
It's harder to gauge the damage in the left for me because you'd have to kind of differentiate between genuine pain from strain, and just fatigue.

I was top 35 in Italy on osu-mania! playing almost 3/4 hours everyday at some point, I even grew my channel by a lot, lots of people coming in and checking me out, being supportive too, and the most ironic thing is that the game that cause my injury is sitting in my channel right now, as my best play ever...

Can relate to this video so much. Made my account 2019 august and got to my peak rank 2020 august at 40k ish and loved playing 220-240 bpm stream map and started feeling pain with my my tapping arm.
Kept playing until it felt like every tap caused pain and haven’t touched the game since then. I found the reason for me may have been correlated to smoking and having low bone density after taking calcium and stretching the past two years my pain seems to have disappeared.
I found wearing arm sleeves and having elevation on the arm helps a lot as well. Don’t play osu anymore but can still play fps without pain mostly. Hope u recover bro

I feel you. I've been playing Geometry Dash for about 3 years and I've got 2 tendinitis on my right hand, which made me quit for a whole year basically.
An advice I got is to increase your playtime really slowly. You CAN play 5h a day if you start with 1 or 2 and increase really slowly. Your hand are full of muscle that just need to adapt to the effort you're asking them to do.
Recovery is not fun and not being able to play while in your peak is the worst feeling ever. But don't give up yet. And please y'all, be careful with hand injuries, it can be serious as hell. I got lucky my tendinitis are 80-90% possible to heal, that's not always the case.

I can't stress enough how heartbreaking the feeling is. I was a mania player once, i could ace a couple of 3 stars, it was when I was approaching top 20k and doing 4-5stars a lot that I started to feel a slowdown and weakness of my left hand. It saddened me so I quickly gave up mania (2020 September) and looked to standard because I was decent with it. I bought a tablet and same thing when I approached high 4 stars - stars, my finger couldn't stream properly anymore. My left index finger feels very weak. I took a break from osu entirely (2022 january) came back a month later without any improvement.
Not just osu, but typing with my left hand index finger is so hard and really a struggle. Sometimes I struggle to lift basic objects like plates.
I peaked mania (21k) and std (173k). I was embarrassed at first because I have this problem as a six digit but I accepted it because recently, the middle nerve on my right hand (yes my right hand has it also) hurt everytime I try to hold my phone. It subsided after an hour but it was traumatic.
If you are playing osu and reading this, please do know your limits. Not everyone can be a top player. I am not trying to discourage you, but please be careful.
I still play osu today but I am limited to 3-4 stars. My reading is improving but my tapping hand and stamina is not. Please do take care 🙂
My osu profile for those curious:
SuperCorn - (left this account out of shame)
Qwarks - made this to test how bad my skill is compared to a few years back to see my true rank (I mainly play on this account casually)
I play with middle finger and ring finger now, hard asf to stream :(

as an ex #300 global rank player, that also got an injury on my tapping hand from early 2016 to almost 2017, I can tell you it's the worst thing ever to have a very fast paced improvement and then be gone for a year. That cut off my career so much, and if I had just been a little bit smarter maybe I was able to get to #30 instead of #300 :)

100% an important message that people need to hear. I played a long while ago (2012-2015, hit about 2400 global, top 100 US), and when I finished playing, I had full-blown RSI. The pain has decreased but has never gone away. I have DeQuervain's Tensynovitis and Cubital Tunnel Syndrome. I have to ice my hands most days after wrapping up work (I use my computer most days) and may someday need surgery to really fix the issues. I started playing osu in Sept 2020. Around Dec 2020 my forearms started hurting. I played a lot less that month, but continued to play in the coming months. However, the forearm pain didnt go away and continued to get worse and worse until around Feb to March 2021 it was some of the worst pain Ive experienced in my life and it was there for basically every second I was awake. Sometimes I would just lie in bed miserably in pain and unwilling to get up.
I tried doing all of the hand and wrist exercises recommended to osu players and got a wrist brace, but they didnt help much.
Thankfully, around April to May, I found out a method of stretching that was able to relieve the tightness in my forearm muscles. To do the stretch, you face your palm up, put your other palm on top of it, and push the palm thats facing up down and in with your other palm. The most important part of the stretch is to resist the push with the palm facing up. I didnt know it at the time, but this stretch is basically a PNF stretch.
Now I'm finishing out my third year of playing osu, thankfully without any other chronic pain issues.
Osu is a really physically intensive and injurious game. It's unfortunate that our understanding of the arm, wrist, and hands isnt good enough to prevent and heal osu gaming injuries.

I find the best indicator of getting better is getting more comfortable with maps. It's not worth doing well on a map if it's uncomfortable doing it, because you won't be able to play that way consistently. You need to use a tapping and aim style that is comfortable, if you can't manage to play the map while doing that, it isn't worth playing.

2013 boomer here. Ive never been great with steams / stamina. It took a lot of time and practice to get anywhere with finger control but eventually id say it turned into the skill i was best at. Around 2020-2021 i was experiencing the same downwards trend (hell probably before that even) but for me it was my tapping hand. I tried everything to stop it. switching to alt fully, pushing stamina more than usual, thinking that if i played stuff out of my comfort zone id develope my finger control and stamina and be better than before. I wouldn't necessarily say it's bad advice to play stuff slightly above your comfort zone but i made the mistake of ignoring hand health. I'd play for as long as i could get away with, with little breaks and stretches only when id remember them.
I ended up needing to quit due to pain from just a few sessions trying to grind stuff like "i love you more everytime you die", "just hold on", and "ice angel"
Initially it was just my finger locking more and more and my acc going, eventually it turned into constant aching at night and soon after just constant aching in general. It has improved since ive taken a break but i still have pains, pins and needles, and numbness that can be caused by something as little as straining to open a shaker cup thats stuck or putting too much weight on my hand.
For now I'll be playing casually at best with likely long breaks in between, if my pain improves there's still some unfinished scores I'd like to get.
Anyone who may find themselves in the same downward trend:
Take a break. Give it a few weeks, reset your mental and give your hand some time to rest.

What ive learned is that you really shouldnt overdo it, especially in osu. Ive never had a high rank anyway (peak 220K rn) but even with that injuries are still important to take care of.
