- John McCain does the right thing when supporter Gayle Quinnell told the crowd at a McCain Rally in Minnesota that "Obama is an Arab."
"No ma'am," he says. "He's a decent family man, citizen, that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues." Re-enactment from Game Change.

Such an honorable, ethical man. RIP Maverick
Comparing the actual footage with this scene it's remarkable how accurate they got it. Even the camera angle and the way he steps back from the woman matches the real scene.
Such an iconic moment in our history. Also his thumbs down on the floor of Congress to save people that Health Care. RIP Sir.
I'm a Chicago Democrat and I have great respect for John McCain. I actually voted for him which I greatly regret(Palin). At his core he's a patriot, war hero, senator who reached across the aisle, took on Big Money in politics(campaign finance reform), stood up against the racist Jerry Falwell's of the world, and stood up against his own party at times. Yes he did pander to his base especially during the 08' election but it was no different from any politician, left or right.
That would have been great. 2000 McCain was so much cooler than the 2008 McCain -- 2000 McCain was a conservative, but he was more like an Eisenhower Republican than, say, a Sarah Palin Republican. Patriotism and class. McCain's still cool but he lost a little something because he had to pander a lot more than he used to in order to run a national campaign.
McCain should have been President in 2000 instead of Bush. McCain would have listened to his national security advisers before 9/11, even if 9/11 happened he'd've still got bin Laden, he would not have invaded Iraq, and he'd've worked with the Democrats producing a much more collegial Washington than the dysfunctional mess we see today.
scooteristi no he wouldn't. He is a warhawk. Maybe a polite warhawk but still.
John Mccain class act. Never agreed with his politics but this was classy. Ed Harris was brilliant in ths film as usual and boy did they do a great job recreating this scene.
McCain trafficked in the hoax Russian dossier. He is in hell right now burning for his treachery to the American people.
@@arizonajoe1608 You first
That's no Mccain, it's General Francis Hummel from The Rock!
Good question but McCain was still a good man for a republican. Rip

Man they did this spot on
Most heroic scene ed Harris ever done on film.
I do respect John McCain. He's a true war hero too.
He's a war hero because he was captured. I like people who don't get captured.
@@jasonpetty944 Draft Dodging Don has a point. NOT!!!!!!!
Schmidt and Wallace's faces at 0:25: McCain earns their loyalty, which is the only reason they put up with Palin.
i am a democrat, while i am happy Obama won i think McCain deserved the Presidency just based on years of service to this nation. Its crazy because i disagree with all his policies but i have soooo much respect for service men of the past...McCain is a true Patriot...
he's probably the last of an extinct breed of republicans that, sure, you disagree with them, but if they won, you didn't worry the nation was going to go into the shitter. That said though, McCain was still a massive chickenhawk. While I can acknowledge the man's integrity, he would have put us into even more wars.
And the high road got him nowhere. The otherside would've fanned any smear against their opponent. We've grown tired of the Dole/Romney "oh shucks we'll get em next time folks". 8 million added to poverty, 1% GDP, 2 dragged out wars and a divided nation later.. thanks Maverick.
Yep. It's a real shame she tanked his Presidential Campaign.
Yeah, we know he's alive NOW, but we didn't know it would be like that in 2008
What a loss!! Thank you, sir. We all should say to people with "alternate fact" to their face, "No ma'am. No ma'am."
... and
"No, sir. No, sir."
think about the ridiculous abruptness of the question and suddenly being put on the spot to answer the question. it's a lot tougher than it looks. i'm sure if I was put in the position I would have slipped up with a response too. considering mccain's intent in his comments I don't have any qualms with what he said. obviously he didn't say the best thing but his intentions were good at least i thought.
man do i miss McCain
This clip is from the Game Change movie but I remember seeing it when it happened in real life and the actress they hired looked pretty much like the real woman who said that. I also remember McCain in the clip because he looked like he was thinking, "Christ, who is this ugly broad?" And while I would have never voted for him, I commend him for trying to cool down the rhetoric when he knew it had gotten too heated. Unfortunately, those people didn't wanna hear it.
This was the America Value in the early 2000 Arena. The respect and love for Americans no matter what side you were on politically. We need to get back here.
Not to mention he would have soundly defeated Gore in the 2000 election. The would been no stigma over who won. He might have gone after Iran instead of Iraq, but who can say for sure.
I agree, except im more moderate
What was woody hareelson doing there??
He played Steve Schmidt in the movie, who I believe was McCain's campaign manager.
the way they made it in the movie was a little different than real life.
in the movie it was like a statement of fact.
in real life it was tentative
this is a movie
Country OVER party...
Yeah like Sinema and Manchin.
The Right winger vs the Respectable Senator. Truly a Great man. White House sends its Condolences!
To był Genteæm .
Naprawdę facet który mówił wprost.
The last moderate to run and now he is pretty much a joke.
+lilestfozzy At the end of the day, when he is no longer on this earth, John McCain is an American hero who served his country. 50 years from now Washington will still be a carnival of politics, cause the simple nature is something that big, with so many personalities will never function.
Donald Trump would have said "YES HE IS AN ARAB AND A TERRORIST!"
I am a lifelong liberal, I voted for Gore, Kerry, Obama, Obama and Clinton, but I salute John McCain, one of the last true conservatives with principles.
Where it was with John McCain and where it was about to go with Donald Trump
So basically everyone who has served what? 20 years in the military with honorable service, even decorated service gets to be President? Wow That makes me presidential material too...who knew?
What’s funny is, despite McCain’s insistence this woman was wrong and flat out ignorant, so many conservatives still believed what this woman was saying, and also that he wasn’t born in America, even after he released his birth certificate.
Angry man who died holding a grudge and sold out for political gain.
Please do what is smart. Please do what is wise. Virginians, kindly vote for Mr. Terry McAuliffe.
Virginians, please vote for Mr. Terry McAuliffe.
Virginians, please vote for Mr. Terry McAuliffe to become the
Governor of the State of Virginia. Thanks.
So an Arab can't be a "decent family man"?
+Moy Musouka It was the tone of her statement that he objected to - She's obviously ignorant.
Nope
