  • John McCain does the right thing when supporter Gayle Quinnell told the crowd at a McCain Rally in Minnesota that "Obama is an Arab."
"No ma'am," he says. "He's a decent family man, citizen, that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues." Re-enactment from Game Change.

Comparing the actual footage with this scene it's remarkable how accurate they got it. Even the camera angle and the way he steps back from the woman matches the real scene.

I'm a Chicago Democrat and I have great respect for John McCain. I actually voted for him which I greatly regret(Palin). At his core he's a patriot, war hero, senator who reached across the aisle, took on Big Money in politics(campaign finance reform), stood up against the racist Jerry Falwell's of the world, and stood up against his own party at times. Yes he did pander to his base especially during the 08' election but it was no different from any politician, left or right.

That would have been great. 2000 McCain was so much cooler than the 2008 McCain -- 2000 McCain was a conservative, but he was more like an Eisenhower Republican than, say, a Sarah Palin Republican. Patriotism and class. McCain's still cool but he lost a little something because he had to pander a lot more than he used to in order to run a national campaign.

McCain should have been President in 2000 instead of Bush. McCain would have listened to his national security advisers before 9/11, even if 9/11 happened he'd've still got bin Laden, he would not have invaded Iraq, and he'd've worked with the Democrats producing a much more collegial Washington than the dysfunctional mess we see today.

i am a democrat, while i am happy Obama won i think McCain deserved the Presidency just based on years of service to this nation. Its crazy because i disagree with all his policies but i have soooo much respect for service men of the past...McCain is a true Patriot...

he's probably the last of an extinct breed of republicans that, sure, you disagree with them, but if they won, you didn't worry the nation was going to go into the shitter. That said though, McCain was still a massive chickenhawk. While I can acknowledge the man's integrity, he would have put us into even more wars.

And the high road got him nowhere. The otherside would've fanned any smear against their opponent. We've grown tired of the Dole/Romney "oh shucks we'll get em next time folks". 8 million added to poverty, 1% GDP, 2 dragged out wars and a divided nation later.. thanks Maverick.

think about the ridiculous abruptness of the question and suddenly being put on the spot to answer the question. it's a lot tougher than it looks. i'm sure if I was put in the position I would have slipped up with a response too. considering mccain's intent in his comments I don't have any qualms with what he said. obviously he didn't say the best thing but his intentions were good at least i thought.

This clip is from the Game Change movie but I remember seeing it when it happened in real life and the actress they hired looked pretty much like the real woman who said that. I also remember McCain in the clip because he looked like he was thinking, "Christ, who is this ugly broad?" And while I would have never voted for him, I commend him for trying to cool down the rhetoric when he knew it had gotten too heated. Unfortunately, those people didn't wanna hear it.
