Great info! Thanks for sharing! I am very new at welding scrap metal art and have zero training in art or welding, but I LOVE it! Please keep the how-to videos coming. Cheers!
Subscribed instantly, I bought myself a mig welder during lockdown it took me a week to figure out I had to make a circuit to get it to work, I was trying to weld the leg of my parrot cage and at least I gave it a go, the mask I have is very hard to see out of, think it was supposed to light up or something, one of those solar masks don't think it's working, I'd love to do sculpture. I'm always watching out for scrap metal ..
Check to see if the welding hood has batteries. Even if you are welding for a hobby I still recommend spending the money on a weld hood that is high-quality. It’s your eyesight which is priceless! I love that you went for it! I’m really proud of you!
@@BarbieTheWelder oh thank you..I need a space to work , I've not been able to get it out all week cos it's raining so much I need a covered space to work. Thanks for the encouragement, I'm proud of my self as well, I'm years wanting to learn..I've been practicing on my mother's spoons ..spoon men everywhere..there cute and great practice yea just after that comment I got a new helmet that's much better I can see finally and nearly getting it in a straight line, nearly .. I may have seen your spoon man, loved him so went nuts with cutlery, thanks 4 that tip..I'd have never taught of spoons..I've been looking in junk yards not the kitchen.😅
Good tips. I suggest if you can't find much scrap or the right shape for smaller niche projects, cutting up sheet metal with tin snips to fill in voids would be a good time saver. You can build layers similar to how 3D printing works. It will be less expensive on the MIG wire, especially if you use flux core like me.
Hey Barbie I’m a novice retired scrap welder and I’m wondering how you create hair with welding wire with out it falling on the floor. I use a Hobart 140 mig with gas using .30 wire I try different settings but usually trying to weld washer to fasten whiskers for a cat you do awesome work and I know you have the knowledge I’m missing helppppppp
It’s all about the settings and how quick you are on the trigger. For the hair on my people sculptures I’m using a TIG welder for the cat it’s just about being quick on the whiskers making sure your material is clean and the trim machine is set up correctly. I use all 30 wire and feel like it’s the best for me but each Welder is different you could always go down to an old 23 and try that if you’re still burning through
I have a table lamp that I need to tear apart to use pieces of it on a sculpture I’m welding. How do I know if this lamp is weldable? Magnets stick to it, but it looks like brushed nickel almost. I guess I can just try to weld it and see if it sticks.
@@emostorm7 since I posted this question I’ve welded a ton of scrap. Best way to tell is a magnet, if it doesn’t stick you can’t weld it (excluding stainless steel. You can weld that but magnets don’t stick)
By the way...If you can get those sanding disks in ceramic coated you will cut your grinding and sanding down, in half...they cut faster' take material off faster, and work even better when the surface is hot without dulling, last 50% longer..and in general makes things easier. I am a boilermaker and have found them to be awesome!!! hope it helps
Great job once again, Barbie. I would encourage everyone reading this to check out Barbie's Etsy shop: She has posted some amazing sculptures there, and I think you'll be impressed. I think most of you will want to own a "Barbie Original."
Great videos, but I'd like to see ya advise viewers about safety practices, like how you keep your hair and loose clothing out of your grinders and stuff like that. (I had a cheap lesson when I caught my ponytail in a hand drill 45 years ago and only needed six stitches in my head and it could have been so much worse. I'm sure that lesson saved my bacon during later years of farmwork.) Great videos - informative, good delivery, good sense of humor, very cool sculptures.
Please no. Just look up the vast mountains of other videos on RUclips about safety or take a class and you'll learn all you need to know. It's not every RUclipsr's responsibility to teach safety, she's just showing us her art, and I personally found it annoying that so many videos I watch feel they have to put a safety section in the video when they're just making a video to entertain.
Hi I'm 14 and trying to start my business in sculpting iv recently welded a 7ft stag in my shed I'll send you some pics to your Instagram I'd appreciate your opinions thanks

I’m glad I found this video. I really needed the info. Thank You!
Amazing art work!! What gas mixture would you recommend for welding steel as well as stainless steel forks and spoons.

Always a thumbs up from me Barbie, love what you do.
I should sent you some of my scrap ,I've got tons ! Love your artwork !

Smart thinking! Thank you kindly!
Thanks, this is a nice collaborative thought process since I wouldn't have thought of it before watching your video. Glad you like the idea.
great video once again, happy new year! love your sculptures, you are the best!!!!!
Great video. I am new to this style of art and you helped me understand so much

I’m going to try to make a solid steel skull
Thank you. Learning so much.
Awesomeness!! Happy welding!!!
Barbie can I suggest that you make a tumbler to throw your scrap metal into to clean it up and save you time so you can create more works of art

Is there a video of you making the face ? Or any face? Would be great to see that :)
I believe there is a video here but I’m also in the process of creating more advanced sculpting videos! Stay tuned!
@@BarbieTheWelder great, will keep a look out :)
You have a heart of a teacher, great work, I love doing metal art in my spare time, I would put a ring on that finger just saying lol.
great video!
Thanks for the good video. In answer to your question, I would like to make a hawk out of copper.
That would be gorgeous!!! Go for it!!!💙👩🏭

You are soooooo cute!
You should convert a 3D filament printer into a 3D MIG printer. Then you could buy Instagram.
