- After far-right violence caused chaos across the UK last week, Matthew Wright considers why riots have seemingly 'fizzled out' in recent days.
Thousands of peaceful anti-racism demonstrators appeared to quash fears of further violent disorder on Wednesday night, despite the threat of more than 100 planned protests.
Police had been braced for a night of disorder but large numbers of counter-protesters gathered in areas including Walthamstow, east London, Bristol, Brighton, Liverpool and Sheffield.
Matthew suggests that this shows 'the reality is they're [far-right rioters] massively, massively outnumbered by decent people'.
He also speaks to professor Anthony Glees and former Met Superintendent, Nusrit Mehtab, who both emphasise the impact Prime Minister Keir Starmer has had in quelling the unrest.

Well, there are fewer and fewer moderates on that side these days. It's not lasting though. There are a fair few center/right leaning people, but it's certainly not what it was 15 years ago, with most people tending to be far to the left of what conservatives are plating up, thus kind of filtering their supporters

I am a white Christian whos lived in the UK all my life. I have friends from all races and religions. I do not care about these differences as long as you're here to add benefit and be a decent human being.
The fact remains tho after all this is that i don't feel safe in this country.
I peacefully protested weeks ago like many other ppl about an issue which I feel is negatively impacting the UK and needs to be addressed.
We are ignored and the only discussion is over labelling of who's far right and who isn't and demonising anyone who goes against the agenda of mass immigration.

Maybe if these kids had a youth centre to go to... oh yeah, they're mostly gone.
Far from it they are opening several youth groups where I live which are run by the local town council and they are becoming very popular again and as a result youth crime has been reduced. It is all achieved by the hard work of the youth leaders and also parents getting involved in running the groups also so that their children do better for themselves in the community that they live in. Also the cadet forces are getting increasingly more popular by giving the youth discipline and meaningful skills and knowledge in various subjects and also leadership skills which future employers need whether that is in civilian jobs or in the military once they reach the age for full time employment. Many go on to further education to gain meaningful qualifications to succeed in later life.

Over 10,000 arrests were made during the BLM protests in US. You're very poorly informed. Most of them were arrested for low-level offences like breaking curfew and failure to disperse. The ones arrested for criminal damage faced trial.
People still seethe about the BLM protests today, judging them harshly in other words. Across the States more of those protests were peaceful than the ones that turned violent, and where they did get violent arrests were made. Along with some pretty heavy-handed police conduct too. You should be in favour of similar happening to these rioters if you want equal treatment.
During these riots we've literally been watching them set fires to hotels & food banks, start fights with police etc. Your defence of the indefensible while pretending 'we did not do this to the blacks' is a dead giveaway of your racism.
