As one of the lady callers said the judge followed the sentencing guidelines which the judge must follow. The issue is the guidelines and what can be presented as mitigating circumstances. The fault is at the government’s feet and as this government has only been in power for weeks I look at the people who were in power for the last decade and set these guidelines

From what I can see there’s been 3 reviews for Category A images in the last 10 years with no changes, just references to other newer laws. I am sickened by this sentence and every excuse he has used under the sun to try and explain why he acted how he did. What makes me sick is one that he didn't go to jail and two that he said his childhood was to blame for the way he has acted, many many many people have horrific childhoods, myself included, but I would never dream of hurting another person or causing suffering for another human being. This has been explained as to why on numerous videos on this platform. He was found guilty of creating not making, this fell into the lowest category of a band C offence. This carries a starting point of 1 year maximum sentence 3 years. His early guilty plea means a deduction of 1/3 so that reduces it to 9 months, then all thee mitigation circumstances come into play and whether or not he is deemed a risk to the public and that reduced it down to 6 months. Only sentences over 2 years 8 months will get a prison sentence anything below that threshold and a suspended sentence can be given.
The police actually did their job in this case..they arrested him, gathered the evidence, charged him and passed the case onto the CPS exactly how they were meant to. Its everything after that where things went wrong.
But causing a bit of a nuisance on the M25, with the aim of protecting the future of humanity, will land you 5 years in prison. The system is not fit for purpose.

I know it's creates great ratings for media outlets, but a sense of balance is required. Edwards had a blemish free record up to this point. He clearly on the evidence presented wasn't the instigator. The judge who heard all the evidence and was not guided by hysterical rantings on morning shows said the following. "The judge listed these as mitigating factors in his sentencing remarks: No previous convictions; remorse, positive character in the past; mental disorder; and that he appeared to have “voluntarily desisted” or “at least asked not to be sent underage images” during the WhatsApp chat" A similar non celebrity wouldn't have faced jail either. What Edwards did was awful. His personal and professional life is now in tatters. I think the judge was right on balance and clearly made the correct decision.
Obviously the Judge has interests & affections towards the younger & more vulnerable members of our society and felt sympathy towards Mr Edwards feelings, which is understandable from a fellow abuser of young people.
He only got 6 month's. What about the victims. It will take more than 6 month's for them to heal. Judge's will only do a decent sentence when it affects their family.

The magistrate may have overshot by handing down a suspended sentence as the guidelines actually suggest a probation order… I do not necessarily agree with this of course but the guidelines are the guidelines and they may well need a review but the magistrate did follow the guidelines.
