The human mind will do anything to protect itself, even rewriting its entire memories and thoughts to align with kidnappers. Even grown men would eventually break under stress and torture, a teenager stood no chance.
Right two things can be true at once too. When someone's truly brainwashed, they aren't playing a survival role. Their brain has been washed. They've stopped perceiving things as they did before they were tricked. There are some who say, and I agree with it, that you have to let it happen before you can be fully compromised like that. Idk if you can hold a teen to account for not having the balls of steel to refuse to succumb to the demands Patty faced under the conditions she faced them in, but I do believe part of her probably did choose to flip sides. And what teenager wouldn't find a revolutionary dangerous group exciting? Most teens, you wouldn't even have to threaten into it. Idk what she felt, but I feel like sentencing her, given the events that led to her being in that group, was just wrong. Period. There's way too much there to suggest she was a completely free agent acting of her own choices. You simply couldn't make that call conclusively enough, especially for a teen.
Damn, giving away my age here, but my husband and I remember when the Patty Hearst kidnapping happened. Watched news stories about the SLA bank robbery. The 70's were crazy. Great video as always, Joel. Thanks.
Yes, I remember the story and also the truth behind that fake news story. I suspect Joel is a a beloved tool of our enemy who invents history to suit themselves. To not understand this story with a lens to WHO Randolf Hearst was and was connected to is just too much ignorance. There are many content creators out there in their early 20s who demonstrate good maturity. Not this chap, he's still a very young child and certainly a lackluster reporter, worthy of CNN.
I met Patricia Hearst back in 1995, she was very nice, down to earth and seemed like she had moved on from her trauma, I can’t imagine how horrible her experience was. I was a flight attendant in first class aboard her flight from Paris to New York after she had been invited to participate in a fashion show for Thierry Mugler. She came into the galley to talk to the crew and gossip about what it was like behind the scenes at the show with all the models. It was the era of the supermodels and even she couldn’t get over what divas they were!
I love all the different kinds of readings, from ordinary people (reddit / 4chan / subscriber) to the more historical cases (such as these or dark backstories of songs or of places). Sounds like he’s in good company then given what we now know about the man who founded that particular alphabet soup agency and his myriad of messed up things he liked to get up to (while ironically enough being paid by) the folks he and his agency were supposedly there to protect.

The fact that Patty's parents only pitched $2 million for one area 😭 1. You'd think she meant more to them than that 2. Didn't they have the money for it? 🙄
Many wealthy families refuse to negotiate with kidnappers because it sends the message that they're fair game for a quick payday. After all, they gotta protect that wealth no matter what. If my family refused to come up off the money to get me back they'd be dead to me. I'd give my own life for my kids so I can't imagine saying "nah, it's cheaper for you to keep her, but thanks for the offer"
Some details about the first case that people may not know. At one point as part of the ransom negotiation, the SLA demanded that the Hearst family set up an event to give out free turkey dinners to poor families in the Oakland area. They agreed, but the event lasted a short while before the cops, so disgusted at the fact that poor people were eating, began throwing the turkeys at the people and the event disintegrated into chaos. Also, before the food was given out, the media constantly shamed the people who partook in the food as accessories of the kidnapping, and other such smears. Ronald Reagan, governor of California at the time, publicly stated that he hoped there would be a botulism outbreak on the day the food would be given out. I'm not condoning the SLA's activities, but stories like that remind you that far worse villains than some larping "revolutionaries" are not only walking free, but in positions of power. It's funny how people were up in arms about the kidnapping but not about the fact that so many hungry people existed in the richest country in the world.

I went to the FBI exhibit at the Reagan Museum not too long ago. They had an entire section filled with unsolved mysteries, and had evidence there, and basic set-ups of the different crimes. They even had the original Bonnie & Clyde car there. Super fascinating stuff, but no less terrifying.
There's a much more interesting aspect of the FBI's involvement in the Patty Hearst case. It involves then bringing on Stanford Research Institute's first and also most successful remote viewers Pat Price, to try and locate Patty. Not only does he correctly identify her abductors, he leads them to the car involved in the abduction. He's so accurate and successful with other tests and readings that the CIA recruits him as an intelligence asset. Whatever he did for them, we'll never know bc Pat strangely dies within month. No autopsy performed per the suspicious stranger's insistence that convinced them to list cause of death simply as heart attack.
FBI & CIA famously are behind a lot of evil stuff.. watch your back and keep quiet about it. Those who know too much get pandemicked... new one coming in the next election year.
The CIA used to be.. President Kennedy wanted to get rid of them as far back as the 60's. Its said that Bush Sr was involved in both JFK's death..( l think he was director of the cia.. others think it was JFK's VP) and then the Vietnam war..drug running... Shrug.. But, they didn’t go after civilians like fbi is now. Atleast from what I have ever known. I was a teenager when the Patty Hearst incident happened. I just remember seeing a picture of her wth a gun and others w guns and yhe big controversy over her guilt.
I can't get over the fact that the Capano brothers were named "Tom" and "Jerry." I refuse to believe that their parents didn't know exactly what they were doing...
The second one, about the airplane, reminds me ,of what I believe, to be the craziest plane attack. Pablo Escobar had a young man, who didn't know he was setting off a bomb, on an airplane, to kill a guy that was not even on the plane. Everyone died, and the target was not even killed. I think this was also one of the reasons the US put the heat down, after this, Americans were on the plane.
