Excited to make some insect repellant! I've made jelly before and it is one of our favorites. Have some leaves ready for washing to get ready to make it.
Hello. New sub here. I clicked on your video because the property were moving to has 2 huge BeautyBerry plants. I had no idea what they were unto today. Thanks foe the information.
Hi Jessica, Yes I do. I keep solids in the large glass jar, but when I go to put some in the spray bottles I do strain it. Thanks for asking! I know the wind was a bit much in the video! Holly
@@southernhomeflorida thanks so much! I just discovered a large stand of Beauty berry on our property and my husband is a mosquito magnet. I'm definitely going to put your recipe to good use!! P.s. Does this spray keep its efficacy from one year to the next, or must it be used while fairly fresh?
Hi Lysa, thank you for sharing your opinion. I do appreciate it. Each family has to make their own choice on the remedies they use and the circumstances of their use. We live in Florida and spend time deep in the woods. Ticks and lots of them are a fact of life here, and I favor protecting my family effectively versus contracting illnesses with lifelong effects, such as Lyme disease. The correct method of Deet is to spray on clothing and not make direct contact with the skin. I share my personal experiences here on this channel, and it is up to the viewer to decide what is best for them. Thank you, Holly
I made wine out of the berries, it's delicious

Hey Wifi Granny, Glad you are here. Beautyberry has many uses and is a beautiful native landscape plant. You can also make beautyberry jelly!
I love those plants damn my love , those plants😊
Which alcohol? Isopropyl? 50%, 70% or 91%?
Isopropyl that you buy off the shelf at your local store is just fine or witch hazel.
@@southernhomeflorida he was asking what percent? I’d say either 91% isopropyl, or PGA from the liquor store.
Thank you so much for the beautiful labels!
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching.
Thank you, enjoyed watchin’ your video
Thank you for watching! I appreciate it.
Love this !
Thank you Susan! Let me know if you make it and how it works for you.
Thanks for the info! ❤
Sorry I just love it and you don't need to add anything else to it.Just seep it in water.Boil it for thirty minutes simmer rather
Thank you for showing how to make this. Can I use dried beauty berry leaves?
No, the oils are in the fresh leaves. It is best to pick leaves fresh and begin the process. Great question!
@@southernhomeflorida thank you for answering my question. 🙂
So you used rubbing alcohol as opposed to vodka?
Yes. I use the alcohol. It evaporates fast and leaves behind the oils. Try out vodka and let us know!
This is great - thanks!
Thank you for watching Victoria. I appreciate it. Holly
Are dried leaves as effective as fresh leaves?
Tiffany, The oil is in the fresh leaves so no, you can't use dried leaves to get the effective repellent. Great question!
rose geranium oil
I couldn't see a link to get the labels.
Hi Elfrieda! The link is half way down the description right above the timestamps. Thanks for watching and let me know how yours turns out. Holly
Do you not strain out all the leaf solids before you pour it into the spray bottles?
Hi Jessica, Yes I do. I keep solids in the large glass jar, but when I go to put some in the spray bottles I do strain it. Thanks for asking! I know the wind was a bit much in the video! Holly

How long does it last
I have used the same batch for a year. I think it would depend on if you keep it in a hot car, or keep your main batch in a cool spot in your house.
@@southernhomeflorida thank you for the info, appreciate it
You should rethink telling people to use absolute POISONOUS DEET when natural remedies aren’t as strong. Poison is not the answer.

You should do more research before you jump down people's throats
