Hello and welcome to this weird crevasse of the internet where we get really excited about music (particularly Taylor Swift) and break down our favourite albums and songs. Ahhhh what a surprise! I really REALLY hope you`ll listen to her Home Video album.... like the things that album did to me are simply unspeakable and BEYOND offensive. And also i feel like it's much closer to "the record" sound and lyrics wise so i think it would be easier to start there. Thank you for giving Lucy a chance!

home video its definetely the way to go‼️ even though historian has really great songs, home video feels like a better introduction since its more of like a concept album, so i think you guys would get a better impression from there
IM SO HAPPY YOU GUYS FINALLY DID THIS VIDEO!! I obviously wasn’t expecting a just night shift reaction, but I think you guys should definitely react to home video!! It’s the album with the best following story/concepts throughout, but historians would be iconic to react to because of timefighter. If I could give you 2-3 songs to react to from each album, I would say from No Burden “I don’t wanna be funny anymore” and “Green eyes, red face”, from historians “Timefighter” and “The Shell”, and from Home Video “Christine” and “Going going gone” just if you want another brief overview of her discography before reacting to any of the albums. If you do Julien Baker next, PLEASE REACT TO FAVOR!!! I feel like you guys would like “Turn out the lights” the most out of her albums, an offensive song from it is Sour Breath if you want to listen to a song from that album first.

@@olivermceldon9596 yes!! i was going to say this but then i asked myself if it would be too much to dive into on a first listen to a new artist. like, i wouldn’t have had go home be the first julien baker song i ever heard unless i was in the mood of complete emotional damage, and i feel like appointments is kind of the same in that type of way? idk, i feel like favor, appointments, and then an album reaction would be good, but im not sure about just right into appointments.
I will never forget hearing her for the first time in 2016, her song "I Don't Wanna Be Funny Anymore" - I needed several business days to recover from the lyrics.
I'm SO thrilled you reacted to this. I saw boygenius in 2018 on their first tour, which was a triple headline tour, so all three of the boys played solo sets. I had only heard Phoebe before that show, but when Lucy played Night Shift, I became an instant superfan. One of the best shows/performances of my life.

BON & EMMMM, you did it!!!!!! I've been waiting and waiting as a ChatsReacts Stan for my circle to complete as an all things boygenius Stan! Fun fact: Lucy always says of the boys that she conceptualizes Julien as the musician, Phoebe as the artist, and herself as the writer, while she obvi experiences that all 3 of them are all of those. And they've often said that since they toured and made their EP in 2018 (PLEASE REACT TO THAT TOO!!!), even through their solo projects, they've been storytelling with each other. That's how many easter eggs in their albums since then have featured all 3 boys, and shared the same subject matter. They call that their secret 4th boygenius project! Lucy storytelling forever though!!
The thing about this being her only breakup song, historian definitely contains a few breakup songs, maybe not necessarily traditional heartbreak songs but there’s definitely reminiscing on past relationships
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate a Lucy Dacus reaction on your channel! I highly recommend her album Home Video! You two do awesome reactions, and I know you'd have a lot to say about Lucy's lyrics on that album 😊 It kind of feels like going home for Christmas, and visiting all your old haunts. Truly beautiful and nostalgic.

And thoughts on navigating: id start with home video, her most recent work, i feel like its the easiest 'in' and it has some songs that will kill you dead. All her albums are gorgeous, you obviously must finish historian but its a little more enigmatic than her other stuff in my opinion. And her first album is wonderful but might be a slower burn

I wonder if you would ever wanna listen to Luke Hemmings album When Facing The Things We Turn Away From. I know. A mouthful to say, haha. He has such a beautiful voice and the sound of the album is just superior. He's in the band 5 Seconds Of Summer and this album is the first time he's explored making a solo record. He wrote it in lockdown when he was "forced" to finally calm down and actually process all the things he had pushed to the side while on the road. The band started touring from a young age and hadn't really stopped working till the pandemic happened.
It's such a great album and his writing is fantastic. I really think you would enjoy it! :)

Fun fact, for anyone who wants to be a bit more devastated by the lore around this song!! At the last show of boygenius' tour this year at the hollywood bowl each of the boys sang a solo song of someone else, and Phoebe sang Night Shift (wearing Lucy's jacket from the first boygenius tour in 2018)... literally a cover dedicated to new lovers 5 years later 🫠 (Julien sang motion sickness by Phoebe and Lucy sang good news by Julien)
