- An old adversary Adam i Fe completely misunderstands what elevation is, and embarrassingly takes to google Earth in an attempt to prove the Earth is flat. Today we expose him.

I measured the elevation of the ladder at the local swimming pool compared to the other ladder at the swimming pool and they were identical. Flat earth confirmed.
Was the water also finding its level?
No, that just means the construction company put them at the same elevation, which is good because you don't want to be diving off a 10-foot plank that is not really 10-foot. It is for safety reasons.
But the swimming pool area still can be used as definite proof.
When you look at the level of the water in the pool, it is not curved. It is flat. The swimming pool is built on the surface of the earth. Therefore, the earth is flat!

Yep, and due to gravity differences at the surface and in orbit, they also need to take relativity into account, otherwise their positioning would quickly degrade and the navigational systems would no longer work. I wonder wtf they think is effecting the satellites that would cause them to lose sync if not accounting for the difference in time due to gravitational warping of spacetime?
Probably claim satellites aren't real, I'm sure, but then what to they think is running the navigational systems that apps like Google Earth use? It's like digging farther and farther down into a rabbit hole of excuses.

If the earth is flat why are there time zones? Why do some areas of the "flat earth" some areas of the earth have longer or shorter days than others? I'm sure they have some nonsensical answers for those questions as well.
They have competing and contradictory nonsensical answers for everything, The area lacking is generally commons sense and basic logic. It is so much easier to have an answer if you just make it up as you go without having to create a consistent world view compatible with everyday observations.

As soon as he pulled up the elevation graph, I knew what his proof was gonna be. I was wholeheartedly begging "Please don't say what I think you're going to say"...but he did. This much stupidity just hurts to look at.

SciManDan really needed to point out that sea level is constant. Remember Flat Earthers, water always finds its level.
@@maemorri Actually I believe that isn't always constant. When you consider the differences in gravity, as minor as they are, winds, currents, river discharges, temperature all affect it. Sea Level is actually based upon the adjacent land, and not the oceans themselves. Throw in tides (thanks Kevin missed that first time) The same is true for the great lakes. On the Great Lakes, especially the smaller one, like Erie and Huron, it's mere millimeters, but Lakes Michigan, Huron, and of course Superior can be several inches. So it's not true.
Just watch some of the FE videos that try to prove that the earth is flat, they find minor differences, and say it proves a flat earth, even though it doesn't. I saw one that had a difference of like 4 inches or so, and they said that on a globe it should be such and such......

Has anybody pointed out to the flat earth cretin that the elevation readings he’s finding on Google were measured by a satellite orbiting a spherical Earth? Does he think maybe Google employees walked the earth measuring elevation? Also if he likes Google Maps then he’ll really love Google Earth (which allows you to see and measure distances as they truly are, on a sphere.)

It always gets me how they dont believe satelites exist Yet 80% of their content is looking at satelite images.
So basically, if you measure a circle from the center, find that it has a radius of 2 inches, then rotate and measure another point and find the distance from the center is still two inches, you've just proved that all circles are in fact straight lines.

Flat earth is debunked by doing any of this on a globe, measure two point and see how far they are off the surface of the globe by going around the globe.

I measured my height while standing on a step stool, I was 6'1". I remeasured my height while standing on the 4th step of a 5' ladder, I was still 6'1". I don't understand this, how could it be? This elevation stuff is confusing :(

Yeah, every "debate" I've ever heard is just them being presented with irrefutable proof that they don't understand, so they say something about math tricks or whatever, then a bunch of name calling, some out of context Bible verses, something about flat water and how gravity is "just a theory"(that always makes me cringe), throw in the conspiracies and the CGI, wrap it up with their "proof" that never includes a model that reflects reality and that's about it. Tada!
Oh, but they sometimes do have a model! See, gravity is obviously fake, the effects are cause by density. Denser objects fall. Oh, wait, that's the observation. So denser objects fall, because they are denser. And why so? Well, because of buoyancy, of course! What is buoyancy you ask? The phenomenon that causes denser objects to fall!
What they fail to realise is that buoyancy is a result of gravity. And they sometimes even use the term "weight" in their explanation of buoyancy. Yes, weight, a force that exclusively occurs as a result of gravity, by definition.

LOL, this is precious! I live in Juneau Alaska, USA. Every Juneauite will tell you stories of tourists getting of their cruise ship and asking a local "At what elevation are we?" You just got off a cruise ship, your around 10-20 bloody feet over sea level! They then take a bus to the glacier and ask again..."Do you recall driving up and steep hills?" "No"... that because you are about 50 feet over sea level!" Just cause you have mountains above you does not mean you high up. So this guys idea does not surprise me at all.

According to his logic, if we were on a globe you would be over 1000 miles lower in elevation going from New York to San Francisco. then if you turned around and made the same journey the other way you would be another 1000 miles lower in elevation. So if you made the round trip 100 times you ought to be 200,000 miles lower in elevation.
WOW! That's a good one! I've never heard it put so simply. One thing I found makes flat earth impossible is phases of the moon. There is no sensible explanation of phases of the moon on flat earth.

Nothing wrong with the Imperial system, it just depends what you are used to and what you "think" in. I was born under the old system, so if you ask me how tall I am I will say about 5'11" . I will use miles, give my weight in stones and pounds and order a pint in my local. However I have a science background and am happy using metric for work. I tend to think in centigrade though which is odd, as a chemist I should really think in Kelvin!

What this comment section needs is not originality, but uncompromising faithfulness to accuracy, whether of interpreting scientific evidence or deciding whether flat earth is really part of Christian doctrine (hint: it isn't). It also needs that same accuracy in interpreting the sick social movement that is the YT driven revival of FE falsehood and cult-like behavior.

A circle is a 2D object, the Earth is an ellipsoid or an oblate spheroid... or at least a sphere. If it was a circle it would be flat.

Dan thanks again. This time I wouldn't have understood what point he was trying to make without your comments. I couldn't get why he was quoting elevations until the end when he reveals that he expected an elevation map to show the curve of the Earth.
I'm sad about these sort of nutters over the pond too; but at the same time I'm glad that there are a few people like you debunking it.
He even has his drop calculation wrong. According to his method, Waymouth lies 31 miles higher than Aberdeen. At the same time, calculating the other way around, Aberdeen lies 31 miles higher than Waymouth. That alone should have let him see that his method must be wrong. But then again, flerfers are geometrically challenged as it is.
Well to be fair a sphere does not really favor one side over another, so the attempt to declare any point as "higher" is doomed from the beginning.
Flattards cannot get it into of their pointy little heads that in the round earth model, i.e., reality, "down" is oriented toward the center of the earth from any position on the surface, and that the planet is not like a globe in the library that is sitting in the gravity well (of course, they don't believe in gravity, but anyway...) of a much, much more massive object such that the north pole is the top, the south pole is the bottom, and gravity pulls things in the southern hemisphere away from the globe. In their moronic notion of the round earth Weymouth is down from Aberdeen and Aberdeen is up from Weymouth because Weymouth is closer to the floor of the immense cosmic library in which the earth-globe exists.

the best way to describe it to someone who doesn't understand why this is stupid is to get an actual ball, like a basketball or some such, and point out two spots on it. Is one further from the center? no- they're the same elevation. Curvature is something else.

This is actually a very interesting video. Not from a flat earth point of view but from a psychological one. In the first video you can clearly see him realise that he had made a mistake in his thinking, get a bit embarrassed, but then plough on regardless. In the process making a conscious decision to lie to himself. Whilst this is perfectly common behavior in humans, doing it without correction leads eventually to madness. This is in interesting example of self inducted madness, rather than other types that are often unavoidable. I propose this behavior (in this case) is just mob mentality. A desperate need to fit into a group, means subjugating your own senses.

This isn’t a matter of science as much as it is about psychology, IMO.
There’s some serious mental neurosis with people who latch onto dogmatic/irrational beliefs; whether it be religion, astrology, flat earth, Bigfoot, or mermaids - it’s more about them needing a distraction from whatever ails them in life.
For many, it’s the one area where they feel superior to others for being privy to, or “clever” enough to figure out the “truth.”
They’re often not even trying to navigate discourse with evidence or rationale... they actually don’t even want to know. They probably wouldn’t be able to grasp the scientific significance, or the truthful nature of science to be begin with; but more importantly, they are not seeking truth. They’re looking for an echo chamber, or a co-signer to reinforce their beliefs.
Science argues it’s conclusions based on evidence. Fanatics... non-conformists.... contrarians ..... (whichever moniker you prefer,) are simply protecting something precious to them... some of them know how to research and argue from an evidentiary stand-point, and feign intellectualism pretty well.
Most of them I just feel sorry for, tbh...
And it’s not like, “gee I wish Bethany would embrace Jesus as her lord and savior, bc I want her to go to heaven. I feel bad for her....”
It’s more like, “I want to teach this person why it is that the majority of the world places their trust in the sciences. I want to teach them the truly impenetrable truth of mathematics/collated and quantified evidence, and the scientific method and epistemology.”
Anyone who believes in god, astrology, the flat earth, or doesn’t believe in climate change simply doesn’t grasp the truly informative nature of science.

Doesn't surprise me much. They're probably measuring from the WGS 84 datum surface which uses the EGM96 geoid as a reference. Most geodetic surveys do that. Since the reference is a spheroid the deviation from it would appear flat. Duh!

Rockies peak in Colorado ~14,400 ft
Difference of ~10,400 ft
Distance from Kansas to Rockies ~250 mi
Assume 6 ft person looking, and the amount hidden due to curvature is ~40,000 ft
Meaning that you couldn't see the peak (which is likely even further away than my approximation) unless you were at least 10,000+ ft in the air.

If he went from a beach in San Fran or LA to a point on a peak of the Rocky mountains the elevation will be massive. Over a short journey. If the earth is flat by his logic there should be no hills at all.

In order to accept the earth is flat you must ignore or lack understanding of the following:
1. Physics. Ever shot a rifle? I hope FE's don't actually own firearms, but any long distance shooter knows about ballistics, and of course Coriolis Effect, which is easily verifiable depending on hemisphere you are in. This only affects north and south fired shots though. Right in the NH and left in the SH. Evotos (spelling, I know) affects east and westbound shots. High to the east and low to the west. Again, easily verifiable.

2. Gravity. FE's claim our disc simply travels up at 9.8 m/s (not squared as this is a FIXED value, obviously) through space. If this were true then there would be no gravitational acceleration, i.e. if you were to jump off of a curb, it would be the same as jumping from a house, or the empire state building for that matter because 9.8 is just 9.8. If an elevator was traveling upwards at that speed, jumping off the empire state building would be the same as jumping in that elevator. Well at least on Flat Earth it would be. I encourage any flattie to try that. Oh the irony there. Please conduct this experiment for us.
3. Math. Not even going there. I seriously think FE's believe 2+2=5
4. Technology. GPS does not come from cell towers, otherwise it wouldn't work in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, or the middle of the ocean or even above 10,000 feet. Cell towers are simply out of range of aircraft above about 10,000 feet, and over the ocean, obviously.

I'm hoping that's sarcasm. It's definitely considered if you are making your own adjustments and not using a ballistics calculator. Why do you think the calculator needs to know cardinal directions to accurately determine POI? And yes, for wind obviously, but it still needs this info on calm days when wind is less than 1 mph. And the adjustments are still the same. I wonder why?
So not a sniper. I started shooting when I was 5, with 17 years and counting in the Army. I've spent more time overseas than you did in the army. Figures infantry would believe the earth is flat. You do realize when we plan flight plans we account for the spin right? Also when shooting to 1500 yards or farther. Unless that's too far for you. I forgot, you always just call in an airstrike if it's that far out, or try and "walk it in". I have over 50 guns (don't even count them anymore, but worth 35,000 or more) and at least 10 of them are capable rifles beyond 1000 yards. Here's a tip: don't assume you know something just "because I've done it x amount of years" or whatever job you did. If you haven't fucking fired at something that far away, then don't come here with your bullshit "experience". Do you know what a BC is? Or what a grain is? You probably think grains are how many balls of powder are in a shell.
There is plenty of math available for this very subject. And with anything in science, math is ALWAYS the proof.
More about my experience: I also reload, and compete in rifle matches when I can. I own everything from .17 cal to .338. I've hit targets at 1800, and yes, Coriolis was a factor, so was spin drift. But at that range, spin drift always is anyway.
