Social media is the single cause of making the world a sick place. My kid's school dont allow cell phones until later in hs (today its really a safety issue bec no concept of pay phones all over anymore) and smart phones NEVER. Anyone whod put a smartphone in a kids hand is destroying him.

Just hold on and make sure it’s all done with full explanation and out of love. Don’t let them argue you into it. Recently a teacher was talking about getting her kid a phone (I think kid was 11/12)… the teacher had teenage students and they all said “don’t do it”! I also know a 20 something who wishes she was not allowed to have social media from such a young age. I think it might become more common with this generation when they have kids being a bit more cautious because they will know how hard it was to navigate when they were so young.

Mother of 6 adult children here and I can guarantee you that her kids are probably on social media if they have cell phones or computers. They may not admit it to her but they most likely are. Even with all of the blocks my software developer husband installed to monitor/block their usage, they still found a loophole. One of our Daughters was groomed by a predator and flown to another state on her 17th birthday. Worst experience of my life. She was home-schooled and while she was supposed to be doing her school work, she was chatting with him. I was right there a few feet away. Nothing showed up on computer monitoring which sent us alerts if anything strange happened. If you don't want your kids on social media, don't have wifi and don't let them have phones or computers. Teenagers ARE going to teenage.

100% correct. Our boys didn’t get a phone until they earned their Eagle rank in scouts, 3.5 minimum GPA, and play a sport. No social media accounts until 18. It worked for us.

But that's what people say to me when I say my kids don't have social media because they cannot understand how in this day they don't have it. And I'm not naive, I know kids can be secretive. Actually my second son told his friends we were super religious (we aren't) and it was against our religion because apparently that was less embarrassing than saying, my mum won't let me have it. There actually is such a thing as kids obeying parents.
Unless you're standing over your kids' shoulders 24/7, you really have no way to know for sure if they do or don't use social media. But I do applaud your efforts to keep it out of their hands. It's like parents these days have forgotten that they can set boundaries, and that to a great extent they can control what their children have access to. It's great that you make the effort instead of just giving in to what's popular.
