Honestly the two most painful to watch were I.M and Minhyuk. The fact that I.M literally lost his balance because it hit him so hard, after all the stress he's had to deal with hurt. And he kept his head down for far longer than the other boys at the end. And with Minhyuk, you can literally see on his face that he was 100% ready to congratulate one of the others, he had a little smile that screamed, "ah.... I'm not gonna make it" and when his name was announced, he was obviously shocked. I can't even imagine Monsta X without these two, but you can tell neither of them expected to win. And I think being the last two announced, they felt especially guilty for being the ones chosen instead of the two who were eliminated.
I know and he must feel horrible and sorry for others who couldn't make it cuz maybe he'd think he's the reason that Gun/SW couldn't debut or maybe he'd think one of them could have debut if he's not there and that's what makes ME feel 100000x sorry for him like I really want to say that it's not his fault and OFC not anyone's fault.. I'm glad that their relationship are A LOT better now and I'm happy at the facts that every MX member are doing better now especially Changkyun who had to go through a really rough start where almost everyone hate him.. I feel so sorry for I.M. He went through so much shit just to fill in because they needed another rapper and yet he was ignored most of the time. I was holding back tears at the end, I knew he is going to debut instead of #GUN but I can't help but think that Changkyun felt like he shouldn't have debuted. He couldn't even look up at the end, it was heartbreaking. He is a great talented person and he deserves his position and you can't disagree, he had to try even harder than others because he was treated as an outcast even by judges. I have mad respect for him. But it's all in the past now and I'm so pleased to see him having honest fun with his members. but no mercy producers are dicks for bringing him in so late and I'm still mad for that.
Me tooo! He's such a sweetheart and he looked so lost all the time but I'm so impressed that despite how he is in real life, when he raps he's just as powerful as Jooheon is on stage. And it's not that Gun isn't a good rapper but I can kind of see what Mad Clown meant about his style. He clashed with Jooheon when they rapped together but when IM and Jooheon rapped together, it was such a perfect blend of low tone and a higher tone. Their styles are distinct so you can always tell them apart but they just complement each other. He absolutely deserves to be in Monsta X. I'm sooooo glad he made it!!

it's kinda weird to think about how MX has 5 vocalists and only 2 rappers, and they are still considered to have one of the best rapline from current groups the power Jooheon and Changkyun have together
I’ve only recently gotten into Monsta X fully and to hear that they have only two rappers shocked me as I’ve seen groups with at least 3 with the amount of members they have. But their rap line is amazing even if it’s the two of them
Jooheon personality had me surprised in a good way. We kind of expected him at some point to be the most cold towards I.M. but in the end he seems to be the only one with empathy and acknowledge for I.M., I cant help to find it very mature of Jooheon (and cute, annd sexyyy ahaha 😍)
I think it was almost clear from the beginning of the show that Jooheon would debut, because on every mission he would get praised even if the rest of his teams would not
matina I think that‘s why they searched for another rapper whose rap would compliment Jooheon‘s. Gun is s great rapper, out of question, but I think their style is similar and they‘d end up being compared the whole time. I.M really is a perfect fit. His rap matches Jooheon‘s, but is still very different, but also powerful! I think that‘s dhy he was added later. Because he is the puzzle piece that matches Jooheon. :))

Seeing Kihyun excited to tell his grandmother that he's going to debut makes my heart break, especially with the recent news about her passing. I hope Kihyun will be alright eventually since loss isn't an east thing to cope from.
my minhyuk is so underrated that time, people saying that he dont deserve to be in mx but now he gives the light and happiness to the group. the loudest and most soft member. i love minhyuk not just he is one of the visual but he can sing and dance well and most reason i love him because of his personality and sunshine of the group.

i feel like I.M didn't think he deserved to stand there cause of the way the others treated him.. he probably felt like a burden who got in the way of other people's success and it's really sad to see him always trailing behind or sitting alone when he deserves so much more acknowledgement. even throughout the few missions he went through hardly anything was said about I.M's rapping and that's really so ridiculous.
I feel the exact same way!! He looked like he was about to cry and he had his head hanging down the whole time he was up there, even when one of the judges asked them to lift their chins up ;_; And while everyone was hugging and stuff he was just awkwardly standing there. I was relieved when Jooheon finally acknowledged him and Wonho let him in on the group hug. He probably felt even worse though when Jooheon was talking about how he and #Gun dreamed of rapping together onstage..
After watching the episodes all the way through, you could tell who the judges were building the team around. Especially the way the teams were divided for each mission. Basically from the start it was: Shownu - main dancer (possible leader), Kihun - main vocalist, and Jooheon - main rapper. Once they decided that, they looked for the best members to fill the remaining spots.
I agree. I've just watched all episodes. They were never in danger because as you said Kihyun filled the main vocalist position, Jooheon the rapper and Shownu is all around great so it was sure he was going to be in the group. Because they wanted Jooheon as main rapper they needed to add I.M in the competition to complement Jooheon's style. I love Hyungwon but I'm sorry to say that they kept him to fill the visual part. He has improved now but at that time he didn't sing well and couldn't project his voice. And to this day he's for me the weakest vocalist of the group. Wonho is good but not great, but he's a great team player and I see him as the second leader of Monsta. As for Minhyuk I love him to death and to be honest I love his voice the best in Monsta X but in NO MERCY he never shined. I believe the songs they perform were not at all his style. He was totally overlooked by the jury. He never got compliments (only on the last episode someone told him he danced well...sure...). If I had watched the show at that time I would have been baffled he got to debut. He was chosen because he's a showman and a mood maker, and that's very important in a group.

Hyungwon definitely had the skills, and his voice was great (No Diggity was so good!!!), but like you said, he didn't project much,. HOWEVER throughout the show he showed that he was an amazing dancer, and good with visuals. Wonho's voice was good too, and he showed his abilities to also step up and lead, as well as produce. Minhyuk also has the like higher, sweeter voice, that compliments Kihyun (powerful) and Hyungwons (deeper) and Shownus (round) voice, he makes sense to place for pre-choruses, and general harmony and melody. Topping that all off, Wonho, Hyungwon, and Minhyunk were the "visuals" of the show, so it makes sense that the three of them were put in the group to be placed as visual roles. Along with, like you said, Minhyuk had shown that he had gotten along great with them as he was in multiple challenges with the others, and it worked out. Building kpop groups is building something to sell, and they needed to find the boys that would fit that concept of sell. To get the sexy members, the charming members, the sweet, the bad boy, the shy, maknae, etc. all of the stereotype/labels are what markets kpop groups around debut and for their first few years. Obviously it wears off after awhile, and concepts change, along with meeting them and their personalities, but for that initial beginning it is there.

Look at girl groups these days, half of them can't sing live but when it comes to doing cf and posing for vogue or modeling for Dior or whatever they look phenomenal. ok I know this show is old but there are still comments flowing in... if you even dare to think that I.M doesn't deserve to be in MONSTA X, don't consider yourself a good fan. This may be harsh, but I.M has to go through so much shit because of this show and the poor timing. He left his family and was ditched by another company before joining this show, to be almost completely ignored and hated by everyone. He was obviously trying so hard to stay positive because he wasn't going to let anyone get in the way of his dreams. The awkwardness still remains to this day because you can see him being more distant than other members. He deserved this just as much as Gun, because he showcased a real idol attitude and maintained his unique charisma in his rap whilst being confronted by ignorance 24/7. I highly doubt anyone has been in the same position as an idol, so making the assumption that someone doesn't deserve something is irrelevant. The judges knew what they were doing. I.M deserves a lot of love and support. He was never in the wrong and was always understanding. Choosing to hate on any idol for following their dreams is ignorant and wrong, all idols have worked so hard and sacrificed their happinness to achieve stardom.
I think Jooheony and #Gun were too alike to be in a boyband together. As a duo they slay and with #Gun debuting now we'll maybe even see more of this (hopefully). But I.M. deserved it very much. He has a unique style that fits incredibly well with Jooheony's. They're all good, but it's about putting together a boy band after all. And they debuted well :D
But look at it here without No Mercy or Starship, there would be no Monsta X and Monsta X would be different than what it is today if the members had changed !
Minhyuk's face when he's sure he won't get chosen, and when his name gets called, you can see a massive weight was just lifted off his shoulders... Minhyuk's effects me the most out of all of them to be honest.
There's so many words to describe this last episode, but I have to say Shownu at the end had me rolling when he's with Hyungwon and says "I can't believe I'm debuting with someone so good looking" lmfao Like everyone's super emotional and he's just... Shownu. I appreciate him so much

I never realized just how much Monsta X went through to debut. I have always respected and admired them because they seemed to be very mature, especially I.M. and I now know why. I have a newfound respect for I.M. Joining this program when he did must have been so difficult, but he did it and now look at him. I honestly hate programs like this. I find them cruel and unnecessary. But nonetheless I am extremely proud of Monsta X and the other trainees. I hope that the ones who were eliminated have long and successful careers in whatever they chose to pursue. And I hope Monsta X gets their first win very soon.

It breaks my heart to see that even after debuting they have yet to win an award... I honestly feel that Monsta X is super underrated. They are super talented, and work so well as a team. They're just rookies. Give them time and they'll get there. My own bias group took 2 years. My other faves took longer. The battle for relevancy is hard in this industry but the group is still young. They have time, so don't worry too much 😊

They're underrated? Tell that to UP10TION. 2015 was a bad year to debut as a boy group who wasn't Seventeen and Monsta X. Monsta X is holding up pretty well. Seventeen is my second bias group and Monsta X is my fourth and I feel proud to bias such good groups
Jooheon's first step towards IM was so critical in Monsta X's acceptance of him. Though we Monbebes know just how irreplaceable IM is, was, I think we can all appreciate how difficult it was for the boys to accept him while watching their brothers get dropped one by one. So thankful for the Monsta X we have now and looking forward to the debuts of all the other No Mercy boys!! If they haven't already that is!!
Even the judges said their performance changed for the better and they weren't sure the cause. I.M. was the cause. Putting him with Jooheon was the dynamic they needed! I feel like the entrance of I.M. made the whole thing really click! I.M.'s power is insane!

After this, I'm absolutely in love with I.M. The way he handled his situation, and the way he showed that he wanted a way out of the loneliness, the way he worked himself to prove his worth while being despised. I'm just.. awestruck. I'm so glad they came to accept him afterwards.

in the very first episode when shownu was meeting with got7 he said "im sorry you must be busy" to the boys when they were greeting each other, and in episode 8 at the end of the hidden camera he said it as well, and of course did in this episode too :) everyone thought it was hilariously stoic and he stuck through with it to the end

In my opinion, I feel that it's better that #GUN didn't debut with Monsta X. He raps about things that are personal and that's why I love him. Being in a group would've made it nearly impossible for him to rap about himself the way he could alone.
Well he could've debuted with MX and release personal mixtape like Yoongi did for example. But I think he would kinda be overshadowed by Jooheon. It's not the case for I.M. because they have very different voice and style... So yeah, it's better this way.

I have so much respect for I.M, although he came the last two episodes he still debuted. He had so much stress to hold alone, he kept all his feelings inside. He knew what kind of relationship he was going to have with the other trainees, yet he joined because he wanted people to know his talent because he believed that the only thing he has left. I just wished he had at least one friend to cry with and pour out his feelings. I know doing that won't help with his situation, but it's better than keeping it all inside. I feel so bad that he had to keep it all in himself. And those lyrics to Young when he was rapping told his story during his time in No Mercy. I hope Monsta X treats him well, all of Monsta X should be treated with love, they went through so much together during No Mercy. Fighting Monsta X!!!

It is just happened to be that way. the co also realized that they lack of rapper later. At first I blamed the co too. but then to think back, it just happened that way. and I.M. already debut too. I also felt sorry and bad for him too that he had to go through that to debut. I love that he is so strong

I believe Wonho wanted to get out too. If he didn't wanna get out of Monsta X he could've went hiatus for a while after the scandal then join the group again. But instead he took out and went hiatus for a few months then debuted as a soloist.

yes babe ^^ basically people went against them because thought #Gun and Seokwon are more talented or fix better than Minhyuk and Hyungwon with #Gun because Monsta x is a hip hop group, for them it had not sense only 2 rappers and 5 vocalist and with Seokwon, because they found him better vocalist than them. also people thought they were chose for their looks and popularity instead of talent. -I don't believe that, but that's what i read in the comment section-
I love how Jooheon didn't want to open up to Changkyun at first. 1:01:28 But at the end, when Changkyun was feeling like he didn't deserve the spot, Jooheon was there to comfort him and accepted him as one of them. That was the sweetest shit ever.
I'm a new Monbebe and someone recommended I watch this and what the hell, I swear I got second hand depression for Minhyuk. The judges just either shit on him or plain ignored him the whole time, like how many times did they have to make him cry or apologize when his is actually so talented. Yeah I.M got massively screwed over but he wouldn't have been put in so late if they didn't already have plans for him so as long as he could handle the emotional situation he was probably in the best position out of them all.
I disagree because Gun has a stable rap but he's more into underground rapper not idol rapper. He should be part of AOMG but he's still in Starship as solo rapper.
Well being completely honest I’d say Gun is a better rapper than IM. He’s definitely an underground rapper, he’s got the tone and the flow and is a stable rapper too. The fact that IM debuted overshadows the fact that Gun was indeed a tad lil better than him. But the fact is Jooheon would be debuted no matter what, it’s clearly visible since day 1 of the show how Jooheon as a contestant was already professional like an idol so they had to pick a rapper who would compliment Jooheoney and hence IM had to be the best pick, their voices and styles go together really well.

Honestly the two most painful to watch were I.M and Minhyuk. The fact that I.M literally lost his balance because it hit him so hard, after all the stress he's had to deal with hurt. And he kept his head down for far longer than the other boys at the end. And with Minhyuk, you can literally see on his face that he was 100% ready to congratulate one of the others, he had a little smile that screamed, "ah.... I'm not gonna make it" and when his name was announced, he was obviously shocked. I can't even imagine Monsta X without these two, but you can tell neither of them expected to win. And I think being the last two announced, they felt especially guilty for being the ones chosen instead of the two who were eliminated.

I feel so sorry for I.M. He went through so much shit just to fill in because they needed another rapper and yet he was ignored most of the time. I was holding back tears at the end, I knew he is going to debut instead of #GUN but I can't help but think that Changkyun felt like he shouldn't have debuted. He couldn't even look up at the end, it was heartbreaking. He is a great talented person and he deserves his position and you can't disagree, he had to try even harder than others because he was treated as an outcast even by judges. I have mad respect for him. But it's all in the past now and I'm so pleased to see him having honest fun with his members. but no mercy producers are dicks for bringing him in so late and I'm still mad for that.
Me tooo! He's such a sweetheart and he looked so lost all the time but I'm so impressed that despite how he is in real life, when he raps he's just as powerful as Jooheon is on stage. And it's not that Gun isn't a good rapper but I can kind of see what Mad Clown meant about his style. He clashed with Jooheon when they rapped together but when IM and Jooheon rapped together, it was such a perfect blend of low tone and a higher tone. Their styles are distinct so you can always tell them apart but they just complement each other. He absolutely deserves to be in Monsta X. I'm sooooo glad he made it!!

I think it was almost clear from the beginning of the show that Jooheon would debut, because on every mission he would get praised even if the rest of his teams would not
matina I think that‘s why they searched for another rapper whose rap would compliment Jooheon‘s. Gun is s great rapper, out of question, but I think their style is similar and they‘d end up being compared the whole time. I.M really is a perfect fit. His rap matches Jooheon‘s, but is still very different, but also powerful! I think that‘s dhy he was added later. Because he is the puzzle piece that matches Jooheon. :))

i feel like I.M didn't think he deserved to stand there cause of the way the others treated him.. he probably felt like a burden who got in the way of other people's success and it's really sad to see him always trailing behind or sitting alone when he deserves so much more acknowledgement. even throughout the few missions he went through hardly anything was said about I.M's rapping and that's really so ridiculous.

After watching the episodes all the way through, you could tell who the judges were building the team around. Especially the way the teams were divided for each mission. Basically from the start it was: Shownu - main dancer (possible leader), Kihun - main vocalist, and Jooheon - main rapper. Once they decided that, they looked for the best members to fill the remaining spots.
I agree. I've just watched all episodes. They were never in danger because as you said Kihyun filled the main vocalist position, Jooheon the rapper and Shownu is all around great so it was sure he was going to be in the group. Because they wanted Jooheon as main rapper they needed to add I.M in the competition to complement Jooheon's style. I love Hyungwon but I'm sorry to say that they kept him to fill the visual part. He has improved now but at that time he didn't sing well and couldn't project his voice. And to this day he's for me the weakest vocalist of the group. Wonho is good but not great, but he's a great team player and I see him as the second leader of Monsta. As for Minhyuk I love him to death and to be honest I love his voice the best in Monsta X but in NO MERCY he never shined. I believe the songs they perform were not at all his style. He was totally overlooked by the jury. He never got compliments (only on the last episode someone told him he danced well...sure...). If I had watched the show at that time I would have been baffled he got to debut. He was chosen because he's a showman and a mood maker, and that's very important in a group.

Hyungwon definitely had the skills, and his voice was great (No Diggity was so good!!!), but like you said, he didn't project much,. HOWEVER throughout the show he showed that he was an amazing dancer, and good with visuals. Wonho's voice was good too, and he showed his abilities to also step up and lead, as well as produce. Minhyuk also has the like higher, sweeter voice, that compliments Kihyun (powerful) and Hyungwons (deeper) and Shownus (round) voice, he makes sense to place for pre-choruses, and general harmony and melody. Topping that all off, Wonho, Hyungwon, and Minhyunk were the "visuals" of the show, so it makes sense that the three of them were put in the group to be placed as visual roles. Along with, like you said, Minhyuk had shown that he had gotten along great with them as he was in multiple challenges with the others, and it worked out.
Building kpop groups is building something to sell, and they needed to find the boys that would fit that concept of sell. To get the sexy members, the charming members, the sweet, the bad boy, the shy, maknae, etc. all of the stereotype/labels are what markets kpop groups around debut and for their first few years. Obviously it wears off after awhile, and concepts change, along with meeting them and their personalities, but for that initial beginning it is there.

ok I know this show is old but there are still comments flowing in... if you even dare to think that I.M doesn't deserve to be in MONSTA X, don't consider yourself a good fan. This may be harsh, but I.M has to go through so much shit because of this show and the poor timing. He left his family and was ditched by another company before joining this show, to be almost completely ignored and hated by everyone. He was obviously trying so hard to stay positive because he wasn't going to let anyone get in the way of his dreams. The awkwardness still remains to this day because you can see him being more distant than other members. He deserved this just as much as Gun, because he showcased a real idol attitude and maintained his unique charisma in his rap whilst being confronted by ignorance 24/7. I highly doubt anyone has been in the same position as an idol, so making the assumption that someone doesn't deserve something is irrelevant. The judges knew what they were doing. I.M deserves a lot of love and support. He was never in the wrong and was always understanding. Choosing to hate on any idol for following their dreams is ignorant and wrong, all idols have worked so hard and sacrificed their happinness to achieve stardom.

I think Jooheony and #Gun were too alike to be in a boyband together. As a duo they slay and with #Gun debuting now we'll maybe even see more of this (hopefully). But I.M. deserved it very much. He has a unique style that fits incredibly well with Jooheony's. They're all good, but it's about putting together a boy band after all. And they debuted well :D

I never realized just how much Monsta X went through to debut. I have always respected and admired them because they seemed to be very mature, especially I.M. and I now know why. I have a newfound respect for I.M. Joining this program when he did must have been so difficult, but he did it and now look at him. I honestly hate programs like this. I find them cruel and unnecessary. But nonetheless I am extremely proud of Monsta X and the other trainees. I hope that the ones who were eliminated have long and successful careers in whatever they chose to pursue. And I hope Monsta X gets their first win very soon.

They're just rookies. Give them time and they'll get there. My own bias group took 2 years. My other faves took longer. The battle for relevancy is hard in this industry but the group is still young. They have time, so don't worry too much 😊

They're underrated? Tell that to UP10TION. 2015 was a bad year to debut as a boy group who wasn't Seventeen and Monsta X. Monsta X is holding up pretty well. Seventeen is my second bias group and Monsta X is my fourth and I feel proud to bias such good groups

Jooheon's first step towards IM was so critical in Monsta X's acceptance of him. Though we Monbebes know just how irreplaceable IM is, was, I think we can all appreciate how difficult it was for the boys to accept him while watching their brothers get dropped one by one. So thankful for the Monsta X we have now and looking forward to the debuts of all the other No Mercy boys!! If they haven't already that is!!

Now that I've seen this I honestly can't see Monsta X without I.M. It's crazy how he could've not made it, but thankfully he did. Wow! I felt so sorry for #Gun and the others who were eliminated. To think that poor I.M. was isolated and what not. I do hope that he knows we, Monbebe's, love him and his hyungs care for him.
In my opinion, I feel that it's better that #GUN didn't debut with Monsta X. He raps about things that are personal and that's why I love him. Being in a group would've made it nearly impossible for him to rap about himself the way he could alone.
Well he could've debuted with MX and release personal mixtape like Yoongi did for example. But I think he would kinda be overshadowed by Jooheon. It's not the case for I.M. because they have very different voice and style... So yeah, it's better this way.

I have so much respect for I.M, although he came the last two episodes he still debuted. He had so much stress to hold alone, he kept all his feelings inside. He knew what kind of relationship he was going to have with the other trainees, yet he joined because he wanted people to know his talent because he believed that the only thing he has left. I just wished he had at least one friend to cry with and pour out his feelings. I know doing that won't help with his situation, but it's better than keeping it all inside. I feel so bad that he had to keep it all in himself. And those lyrics to Young when he was rapping told his story during his time in No Mercy. I hope Monsta X treats him well, all of Monsta X should be treated with love, they went through so much together during No Mercy. Fighting Monsta X!!!

I know that this was like 100th years ago but honestly I love I.M with every inch of my heart he deserves to be in Monsta x.He has gone through so much and I'm proud of him.I'm happy to see him as a succesfull rapper along with Jooheon.I also liked all trainees including Kwangji, Yoonho, Minkyun, #gun and the others.I watched this show 3 times and I always cry no mercy was such a mess full of emotions.But it was kinda inspiring how much they loved eachother and their teamwork was always on point.I hope to see the other trainees debut really soon♡ I loved watching this show

I'm so glad Minhyuk is in Monsta X,he was so underrated during No mercy.He had no confidence that he would actually be able to debut...did u even see all the episodes?he keeps saying sorry everytime he loses.And even during the last episode,he was actually the last person to be added into the group and he thought gun or either seokwon will get into the group but did u even look At the suprised and sad expression on his face when he was chosen as the last person to debut in monsta x?he obv hated on I.M because I.M had so much potential to debut in the group meanwhile minhyuk lacks in a lot of things evendoe he is a great vocalist.He acted so positive during the survival show but on the other hand,no one is feeling the kind of sorrow that he is feeling.THE FACT THAT THE TEAM HE WAS IN LOST 2 TIMES!AND THE FACT THAT HE LOST TO SEOKWON DURING EP 4-5,AND ON TOP OF THAT THE JUDGES NEVER EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED HIM THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE EPISODES UNTIL THE LAST ONE..I felt like he was really left out during the survival show.They only know him as a postive and cute guy BUT SRSLY U CAN SEE HOW EMOTIONAL MINHYUK WAS.THE FACT THAT HE CRIED FOR THE OTHER MEMBERS WHEN THEY GOT ELIMINATED.I hope people actually read this and acknowledge Minhyuk more because without him,Monsta X would have been a really weird group.

I'm a new Monbebe and someone recommended I watch this and what the hell, I swear I got second hand depression for Minhyuk. The judges just either shit on him or plain ignored him the whole time, like how many times did they have to make him cry or apologize when his is actually so talented. Yeah I.M got massively screwed over but he wouldn't have been put in so late if they didn't already have plans for him so as long as he could handle the emotional situation he was probably in the best position out of them all.

Well being completely honest I’d say Gun is a better rapper than IM. He’s definitely an underground rapper, he’s got the tone and the flow and is a stable rapper too. The fact that IM debuted overshadows the fact that Gun was indeed a tad lil better than him. But the fact is Jooheon would be debuted no matter what, it’s clearly visible since day 1 of the show how Jooheon as a contestant was already professional like an idol so they had to pick a rapper who would compliment Jooheoney and hence IM had to be the best pick, their voices and styles go together really well.
