About how many inches of mortar do you put down on concrete for the block? Is there a standard or is it whatever you feel like (sorry trying to learn) thanks
Thanks for the video. Question, I'm in Ohio where the frost line is 32 inches below grade. If I were to build a block workshed (probably 14ft x 14ft), would my trench and footer need to be 32 inches deep, and 16 inches wide around the perimeter?
All depends. If its a shed you may be able to do just do slab on grade. If you want it to last longer, yes, put your footer at least down to the frost line. If you plan on getting a building permit your local township will tell you how deep it needs to be
@appalachiandiy2415 Sorry if I'm not wording the question correctly. The end of the Block touching the house foundation has me concerned. Is it a corner block or the block with the two butterable tips on it? Some have just one butter slit in the middle too.
I understand this is a garage. Do you take the same approach when building a home, as in is this safe? I am from Nigeria, and our head joints are much larger (2 inches average), which means we use a lot of mortar both for the bed and header. What'a your opinion about it?

Why didn't you show how you put the mortar in the vertical gap?
I'd like to see a video about this sort of thing and also the permits involved and how to get them.
Great stuff! can I contact you with questions on sight prep?
Sure, appalachiandiy@gmail.com
Pour through/ knock out bond beams for first course, did you drill rebar in and knock the bond beams out add steel and pour?
We wet set some of the rebar. For the others, we drilled and epoxied them in
I’ve never seen a mason flatten out a mortar bed before laying a block down. Is there a reason why the blocks were laid upside down?
Masons don't do that, DIYers do.
This is a long time in the making I an thinking of doing about the same but opposite dimensions
Nice!

I came here to determine whether I needed to prep my slab before laying the block down. Does that mortar adhere to it directly?
Yes, unless the slab is painted. If it's painted, you will need to apply a concrete bonding agent.
I would like to know the size of that block plz coz it's very nice
Its 8" wide block
What mortar are you using?
What would be the first block type to lay coming off in existing wall or foundation?
What do you mean by first type?

Just "butter" the ends. So when you place them together there is mortar in the vertical joint
❤❤❤
No vertical rebar on your first course... Is it because you're on a slab? Trying to learn for when I start my project
I did it in the next video
