I came to the grazing school and saw this skirt built September ‘22. I was just wondering about how this was holding up last week, thank you for the update!
When Johnny Joe put in gravel, he first put down larger rocks and then put a layer of smaller rocks on top. In the installation build video Greg mentions the specific sizes of these two gravel rocks.
Thanks for the video! When I make a pond, I’m going all rock skirt. It’s amazing how many people let their cows in their pond or creeks. I’m going to get some of those Russ Wilson no freeze water systems too. I’m waiting for him to email me back.
Folks who want a fence energizer (or other fencing items) should note that PowerFlex Fence has sold out of the bigger Cyclops chargers (no idea if any restocking or backordering applies). I had to step down one notch to get one. Don't forget your discount. Also note their specials. I just sent them a big order. Thanks for the discount Greg-over 160 bucks off my order. Next for the Timeless posts!
Never not ever shall I let cattle tear up a pond. Been around that my whole life, see it every day every where we drive around this state--right there with the roots grazed off the pastures. It never made any sense to me as I saw the diagrams and illustrations for using a tank below a pond (keeping the pond fenced off) many many years ago. Just that hardly anyone does it. Still looking to see another managed grazing place in TN. I've spotted two in about 4 years, but I know there are a few small ones back off the main roadways. Reminds me of a boat ramp---and would be THE place to put in a canoe or kayak or johnboat if a fellow had a big pond and a little boat.
Greg I have creeks with steep banks and hard for my future cattle to access. Could you get an excavator and build easier/flatter access to the creeks with rock skirts? Same design but just in a creek? Block it off just like you have it so they can drink but not get in it. Erosion might be an issue tho. Not sure.
Thank you very much for the video sir

The rock skirts are the way to go.

Good morning Greg!

I need a Johnnie in my life

You might be able to do that. I would be concerned about flood stage ripping out the rock skirt. Water is a powerful force.
It would be harder to maintain with a creek during a heavy rain/flash flood.
