      I remember Sting jumping off a little Trampoline during the concert I saw in 1983! I was very impressed with his agility and dexterity because he was singing and playing the bass at the same time! And he was wearing the Synchronicity costume as well. Nobody leans on the beat like Copeland. He’s always at the edge of taking off, but doesn’t. The fills don’t matter. The best drummers in the world all struggle to do what is being done in this clip.
    For musicians that aren’t drummers; the best live drummers try to push an upbeat rock song to sound like they are playing too fast, but they are not. This video is a clinic on what it should sound like. Gives the song teeth.

      @@kiwimax4659 I agree. When a drummer’s heart is really in the song you can hear the beat almost breathe. It’s the human factor that click tracks remove. It compresses the tempo and smooths out all of the rougher edges, but those edges are where the heart and soul live.

    • @dax_5486
      @dax_5486 2 месяца назад

      @@kiwimax4659 OMG finally! As a drummer, and as much as I L-O-V-E Stewart's drumming, there were times during this song when I was like wtf... Having listened to the Police since umm... forever, I just think this particular song is not in Stewart's territory: he sounds and looks like he's trying to muscle it out and it doesn't sound solid as it should. Stewart's greatness comes out when he can play at a slower tempo and let his drumming breathe.

    I’ve never seen this until now. 9 years later, THANK YOU for this!
    I missed seeing them on the Synchronicity tour. I thought I’d missed my chance at ever seeing them. Fortunately, the gods smiled, and Sting, Andy and Stewart showed up at the American Airlines Center in Dallas many years later.
    The sky opened up on my friend Chris and I as we walked to the AAC. That’s Texas. Within ten minutes, it went from partially cloudy to looking for Dorothy’s house overhead. We didn’t have an umbrella, and spent the entire two hours soaked.
    We didn’t care at all. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life, and the long lamented first concert that wasn’t when I was 13 was made up for beautifully.
    I’ve seen a hell of a lot of bands since missing the Police in ‘84-Queen, Van Halen, Heart, U2, Rush, Kansas, Steely Dan, Queensryche, Yngwie Malmsteen, Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Megadeth, Joe Sattiani, King’s X, Extreme, Porcupine Tree, Tori Amos, and many, many more-most of them many times. The only two concerts that I missed and never got a chance to make up for were Savatage and Pink Floyd.
    But of all those shows, counting well over a hundred, I think the Police and Rush were the best. Two power trios, each populated by three absolute musical gods.
    Now that Neil Peart is gone, Stewart is my favorite living drummer. He’s an unbelievable percussionist, and watching him play, and the obvious joy he feels behind the kit-what a treasure. And Andy…as a guitarist myself, yes, he’s so incredibly underrated and under-appreciated. Those three boys were a supernova, and we were lucky to enjoy their musical genius.

    • @renderizer01
      @renderizer01 3 года назад +9

      But it was Sting who wrote the songs that provided the canvas onto which the others would add their colours. Much as present-day Sting has the unrivaled potential to annoy the living daylights out of me, the man brought an incredible talent to the table - just like Stewart and Andy. It was the three of them that made the Police what it was. All that friction provided the energy that would make them fly - and, eventually, disintegrate. Viewed from that angle their demise was basically hard-wired into the band right from the start. They burned fast - and incredibly bright.

    • @Auntkekebaby
      @Auntkekebaby 3 года назад +3

      @@renderizer01 I agree. Stewart is amazing and one of my fav drummers of all time BUT you need a song to play on. Do you hear the structure of this song? No need for people to continue to disrespect Sting because Sting is an incredible songwriter and lyricist. He wrote ALL of the classics including most of the guitar parts. Andy made them beautiful. No need to sht on Sting in order to praise Stewart. Both are sick. Sometime the comment section in Police videos are so childish. So thank you to Stewart for picking Sting and forming an incredible band.

    When the Synchronicity Album came out in 1983 I was totally into The Police. My favorite Cover band Rat Race Choir used to play the Police every time i seen them preform throughout the Tri State Area. Then in late 1983 i got a great job offer to work in the US Navy at Port Hueneme in Ventura County, CA and I moved there. Living in Oxnard, CA was a totally different mindset from Throgg's Neck in the Bronx. I started hanging out at this dive bar on the road that lead up to the entrance of the Navy Base i worked at. Being from the Bronx i still had my Bronx accent. This is the only bar that accepted my Bronx accent. I met many California girls in that bar and invited them to come back to my apartment on J Street in Oxnard. Having a great sound system and playing this song Synchronicity II while sitting on my couch and knowing all of the words, helped me to finish the deal and Fuck their Brains out without using drugs. Using drugs to fuck a woman is bad. It is a sign of desperation for somebody that doesn't have game. PERIOD!

    Far and away the greatest song this awesome band ever recorded. I loved it so much I sent a short appraisal to my local paper, the Tamworth Herald, and I love my fellow Police fans so much I'm going to reproduce it for you here! Enjoy:-
    This song is definitely not recommended for family men (or women) nearing the end of their tether. A sort of pastiche of a hundred bad sitcoms, it’s truly a nightmare set to music.
    The track opens with one of Andy Summers’ more maddening guitar riffs, repeated for nearly 30 seconds. Just when you feel you can’t take any more, Andy signs it off with a flourish (one of the sharpest ‘hooks’ in rock history) and away we go on a journey into pure horror...
    Daddy endures the usual hellish scenes around the breakfast table, then flees to the office in his ‘shiny metal box’. The tedium of work is relieved only by humiliating dressing-downs from his superior, until it’s time to go home. By now it’s obvious that Daddy is on the verge of a breakdown, and is about to wreak vengeance upon his family.
    None of this is particularly original, but the meaning of the title becomes clear as Sting cunningly weaves in other, faraway events involving some monstrous, inhuman Doppelganger. This Nessie-like creature closing in on the cottage of an unsuspecting crofter is, of course, mirrored by the unspeakable fate awaiting the family. The black humour works beautifully, and makes for a far more effective condemnation of modern high-pressure living than the song would have achieved without it.
    ‘Synchronicity’ was The Police’s last studio album. The No. 1 single ‘Every Breath You Take’ will probably be most people’s highlight, but I respectfully beg to differ.

    One of my prized concert DVD’s…directed by Russell Mulkahey (Duran Duran vids and DD’s

      He used the other guitar for Syncronicity 1 before this song necessitating the guitar change. I think it was either a 12 string or synth guitar or both. Unfortunately Syncronicity 2 was omitted from the original release.
