    Welcome to Kuching, Sarawak.
1:54 The Sulu sultanate "rule" was only a small part of the eastern coast of Sabah. The Brunei archive is still the best place to know what actually happened.
2:36 That's a replica of the Iban war boat (headhunting expeditions).
2:52 The burial pole is not practised by all indigenous people of Borneo. Only a few Dayak ethnics (Dayak = indigenous people of Borneo).
You can watch a movie about James Brooke's arrival and founding of Sarawak - Edge of The World starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Jason Brooke was their advisor making sure that the story line did not steer to far away from what actually happened.
6:18 I believe every Sarawakian would consider it a good thing. Through his rule, Sarawakians unite under one country. Brooke brokered peace between the warring Dayak ethnics. Why would peace be a bad thing? At least he did not enslave us indigenous people like what happened in many colonies around the world! Instead he incorporated some of our customary land rights into the country's Land Ordinance. Many of us indigenous people still own our ancestral land.

@@cworldwanderer, if you’re in the UK… make your way to Devon and find St. Leonard’s church near the Burrator. You’ll see many Sarawak elements there. It’s like a pilgrimage for Sarawakians who can afford to come and visit. That is also where James Brooke and a few of his descendants are buried.
