Enjoyable and pertinent as well. Definitely resonates with my experience. Hopefully newcomers to our hobby will find this vid and come out wiser than I was when I first started!
Scott great video spot on🖐High Five! Start out simple on the cheap try using one soap, one brush, one razor until you figure out how to wet shave👍. The biggest thing in this wet shaving hobby is having fun and the most enjoyable comfortable shaves possible👊Bam. Thanks have a great weekend!👍🙂👍#Heart
I'm only 15 and I just shaved my whole face for the first time a few hours ago. Your videos are great and very useful. I appreciate everything you've got. I use a rolls razor and latha soap. Subbed to you, keep up the great work my man.
Those are very valid points you have mentioned and why buy every thing at once if you enjoy DE shaving , its just nice to spoil yourself once in a while to keep interest IMO.
Ron R that's exactly it. I rarely get that feeling because I do receive a lot of stuff for review. But its a great feeling when I buy something and get it
Great video thanks. I'm 3 week into DE and trying as hard as I can to avoid buying at the moment. Yet I already have 2 razors, 5 creams, 4 aftershaves and 270 blades across 15 different brands. It's too much and irresistible to keep chopping and changing which is doing me no good at all for learning. Trying my hardest to revert to my original setup for a while as last few days I've had loads of breakouts on my skin and due to all the changing up of products have no idea at all what caused it.
The main advice I’d give a new wet shaver is don’t judge stuff on one bad shave. Get a razor and use it till you get your technique own. Don’t try fifty razors at once.
Great video, as always. Really appreciate the information and the time you spend making the videos. Started using safety razor about a month or two ago. Watched a lot of videos (Canuck shaver, Kevy, and Razor Emporium) and read a lot then plunged into the hobby. Bought the Edwin Jagger DE89BL, Proraso red pre-shave and white soap, along with a sample pack of blades. Started with Derby, then Gillette 7(Green), then Shark and now Feather(black label). So far I get the smoothest shave with Feather, but still perfecting the technic and will try Astra blades and Gillette Platinum
Greg DeGagne Great to hear. The EJ razor is a perfect razor to start with. I agree the feathers are awesome....only problem is price and they don't last as many shaves as others I find! Glad you stopped by. I appreciate it.
I agree about feather blades. My first safety razor came with a feather blade and I found it to be too aggressive. I currently use derby blades and get great shaves out of them. I also don't have dense facial hair so one pass usually does the job for me.
Look up "Executive Shaving" on RUclips and watch the video on "How to Shave" . He is a great teacher and keeps it simple. Then go out a buy a decent Vanderhagen shaving set( Razor, bowl, brush and blades) for about $30.00. There is no need for costly razors and shaving equipment until you decide this is what you like. The worst thing is to buy trendy razors and soaps spending close to $100, out the gate and end up hating it . I have heavy stubble and use Astra SP blades. My Fav razor is the classic Gem single edge razor that was used ,when the Dodgers played in Brooklyn. Don't laugh..if you go on sites that sell Single edge razors , you will see modified copies of the Gem razor that costs around $50 to $100 bucks . Until then watch people on here like " Kensurfs", "PaulHfilms " and "Geofatboy". They are also great teachers always showing different types of shaving supplies old and new. Remember --Keep it Simple , don't rush and be Safe.
Totally agree with you on the hype train Man! My latest razor however has caused a mass exodus of razors for the den! The great thing is it’s allowed me to get some other things in that I really wanna give a go!
Some awesome tips there Scott, I couldn’t agree more on all of that, especially the Damascus razors…… I’ve seen a Boker Damascus for $1400…… And that’s regular price.
Excellent video brother. I agree totally with trying many different ranges of products. If something looks interesting to you, try it, you may love it. Don't follow someone else's opinion or view 100% of time. I have product that has gotten shitty reviews, but I liked the look of it, tried it and loved it. Personal trial and error is one of the fun things about DE shaving🤘🏻👊🏻👍🏻
Don't start wet shaving with a Muhle R41. Save that for later if you want to. And don't skip the aftershave. Doesn't matter if you use Aqua-Velva($) or Geo Trumper($$$$), just use it.
Hello, great videos. I'm thinking of buying a Karve razor. Could you give me your preferences on the handle length, plate, and which metal do you really like? I've been shaving with a Merkur 34C for 5 months. And I really like it but wanted an adjustable razor. And what blades do you recommend? Thank you.
I love the C plate. Great mid range aggression an smooth. As for metal they weigh almost the same. I prefer the look of the stainless handle and I like the middle length handle......but I haven't tried the others. They just released a aluminum version that sold out too but I am yet to test it or get my hands on one. I assume it will be far lighter.
kenneth w. Davis so do I. I wish I hadn't went in so fast and heavy and enjoyed the process a bit more.....buts its hard not to with all the awesome options we have
The Canuck Shaver What do you think about those timeless razors? Thinking about picking one up. Are they worth it? Currently using a Rockwell 6s with the 6 plate. Love the Rockwell. But the timeless are gorgeous. The brass looks really cool.
@@trueblu8 if love to get a timeless or charcoal goods....funds just don't permit me to. I also love my Rockwell 6S and 6C great bang for the buck. I've heard great things about timeless razors
I heard from another RUclipsr that you can ruin your soap by adding water to it, that it can lose it's smell or fragrance completely. That's a little scary. Is it true?
As long as you let the soap dry after use I don't think its true. Its a big debate in wet shaving with lots of differing opinions. And unless you scoop out the soap from the tub before use your wet brush will be on the soap....so I don't really agree with not putting water on the soap. Just let it dry if you do.
I would be cool if you use a safety razor and remove your beard on video. Use an open comb. Aristocrat or maybe some other. That would be cool. Just a suggestion. Those kinda videos do very well as they are satisfying to watch.
Just saw one of your early videos of you clean shaven and just saw this one now. The beard definitely looks great! I'm just starting safety razor shaving. Still learning how to do it but I love how old-school it is. Since I also have a beard, I just shave the non-beard areas to keep everything nice and clean.
Proraso is not low end. I like my Proraso red cream better than my aqua do parma cream. Proraso $25 boar brush performs better than $180 silver tip art of shaving brush.
I use CO Bigelow (proraso under a different label) and I love it. I do want to purchase some other creams and soaps, but honestly I don't feel it's necessary. The proraso smells great (I use the cream) and a tube will last me about 6 months for 10 bucks.
Hey , I love Proraso white soap . I even like the Wilkinson sword soap in the blue bowl . Nivia shave cream is good too .
Dev9172 Proraso is great
Enjoyable and pertinent as well. Definitely resonates with my experience. Hopefully newcomers to our hobby will find this vid and come out wiser than I was when I first started!

Excellent points, thanks 😊👍

Xaviera Yayaell its likely all the mixing. Stick with one thing at a time(especially software) and see what what is causing it.

Ken's Shaving & BS'ing thanks brother. I appreciate you think so
All solid advice. Especially taking the time. When I'm in s hurry, I use my Schick.

My Henri et Victoria Duc de santal soap and splash is coming today!! Can't wait to use it. Living within your means is great advice for life

Excellent advice

Great advice man.
Amazing video. Couldnt agree more, first video on youtube concerning this important theme. p.s. i love all my 10 Chatillon lux AS's ;)

Thanks again.
Great advise. Thanks
Cheers!! Thanks so much for watching. I know it's an older video, but it still holds true in my humble opinion.
Hey Scott nice video haven't seen one of your videos in a while hope you're doing ok. Have a great Holiday season.
Cheers Shawn! Its been too long since I've done one. Perhaps tomorrow!!
Good advice
Roger Duran thanks...I hope it can help a person or two
Thank you . I got a good merkur and a supper badger brush right at the start . I spent to much . Now I use my cheaper stuff just as much .
You're not kidding. Buying soaps and razors can get expensive real fast. It's an addicting hobby!
Hey what was the name of that hi end brush company were talking about in this video or maybe was your last video you did
kenneth w. Davis Simpson? Wiborg? Paladin?
I really like your video and Bingeing wet shavers it was really informative I wish I would’ve had that video when I started
kenneth w. Davis so do I. I wish I hadn't went in so fast and heavy and enjoyed the process a bit more.....buts its hard not to with all the awesome options we have
What are your top 3 picks for razors, soaps, and aftershaves?
Oh geez.....that changes so often. For modern razors I'm loving my tatara Masamune, Supply 2.0 SE, and Karve razor....
The Canuck Shaver What do you think about those timeless razors? Thinking about picking one up. Are they worth it? Currently using a Rockwell 6s with the 6 plate. Love the Rockwell. But the timeless are gorgeous. The brass looks really cool.

Good video . I wish I had seen it 6 months ago . I wasted money starting out .
Sorry to hear. I think most of us have wasted or overspent at some point in this hobby
And I have lots of hobbies. Let's not forget woman . Lol

kenneth w. Davis got one ready to release now!
Really cool and informative
Still weird seeing you in a beard tho XDDD

neil dsouza At some point I will for sure! When? I'm not certain. I'm enjoying the beard for now

Stephen Cooper That's great. That's what drew me to shaving like this was how it was old school and looked awesome.
Avoid wet shaving raffles selling $300 soaps!
icerocket unless you win the raffle.....lol
Proraso is not low end. I like my Proraso red cream better than my aqua do parma cream. Proraso $25 boar brush performs better than $180 silver tip art of shaving brush.
I should have said low price. Proraso performs great for its price. And I agree that lots of $25 brushes outperform the very expensive ones.
I use CO Bigelow (proraso under a different label) and I love it. I do want to purchase some other creams and soaps, but honestly I don't feel it's necessary. The proraso smells great (I use the cream) and a tube will last me about 6 months for 10 bucks.
@@ajohnson153 yup. It does the job....and well.
