Towa Tei could easily make the entire Katamari soundtrack with his eyes closed if he had set his mind to it.
Thank you for reviewing this! I was blown away by this album, I just discovered Towa Tei and am simply amazed. I think this one's my favorite of his right now.
Thank you for this careful and respectful review of this artist. Towa Tei has created thoughtful and entertaining music. I like his more atmospheric productions, but he can do anything, and over his long career, he has. I keep going back to him. "Technova" confirmed him as a consummate artist capable of unparalleled soundcraft, and diverse collaborations, but I agree LP is lovable and so far I've enjoyed listening to it.
Super happy that someone reviews Towa Tei’s work, although I don’t really care for this album. I prefer Cute, in his later works 🥰 Still, big thanks!
Towa is elegant and fun at the same time
The universe is 13 billion years old.
Towa Tei’s power has been dated back 14 billion years.
Thank you for a deep dive on the sounds that go into this album. Towa Tei is one of my favorite artists but I kind of struggle in explaining why the quirks of his sound appeal to me so much. This vid helps me verbalize to others why I love Towa’s music and can hopefully get more people to listen
So good to see someone review Towa Tei's music here. I think Towa is somewhat underappreciated even though he's generally given his dues by those aware of him. Started out in a very much Shibuya Kei vein (with a quirky tie dye of lounge, house and breakbeat) post Deee-Lite but gradually evolved to commercially viable, short-form electronic art pop. From Chakra to Doopees, Japan has absolutely excelled at this kind of thing... and you're so right about the production quality on Towa Tei's records. Angel off Last Century Modern is just ridiculous. Absolutely perfect snares and veritable audio meth.
Ringwear has some of the tastiest synths I've ever heard.
I’m trying to decide if it’s one of the best tracks or if it has some weird corny fashion show vibe
Cool!
Never heard of Towa Tei, but I've been listening to japanese 60s 70s and 80s music for years
I'll habe to give this a listen
Thank you for covering this. I've been taking notes from his career and I really want to do work like him!
Cheers! Cool music on your channel, I really like that 3 𝓐.𝓜. 𝓲𝓷 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓒𝓲𝓽𝔂 🔥
@@trip_the_deep thank you so much! That means a lot coming from you 🙏🏾
Dude, what a great review!
It's the 1st time I hear about Plunderphonics! Much to search on that genre...
I'm a huge Metafive/Leo Imai/Kimonos fan and becoming obsessed with Towa Tei lately. I knew him for years, but it took me a while before I actually listened to his entire albums.
Loved your commentary about some of the story behind his tracks and his mindset for his works. It totally feels like he's creating a Towa Tei Verse that's directly linked to YMO Verse.
Great content and waiting for more videos!
Thank you so much for the kind words!
I am still working away at my next big project for this channel, and will definitely return to cover more about Towa Tei, YMO and other artists in that sphere :)
@@trip_the_deep That sounds great!
Although I wanted more youtubers to exploit and spread the word about some of the japanese (alternative/indie) greats from past and present, like Yura Yura Teikoku, Number Girl/Zazen Boys, D.A.N., Kikagaku Moyo, Happy End, Lite, Toe, Ichiko Aoba, Susumu Hirasawa, The Pillows and so on, I totally get you're interested more in bands that have interesting stories to be told.
So in that sense, I was curious to deep dive in the history of the members of YMO, starting from Happy End and Haruomi Hosono, to YMO itself, solo/side projects for each member (all in all focused on the main trio, but also open to discuss other temporaly members and their musical careers), their whole open mindness to experiment in a ton of genres, the movie soundtrack career of Ryuichi Sakamoto (he should have an entire video just for himself), Yukihiro Talahashi's stuff from past and present (like Metafive starting from a homage to YMO and Yukihiro's solo career, up till the point they decided to create original music - all kickstarted by Towa Tei's "Radio" track and how he kinda united at least 3 different generations of the alternative scene), their radio project (that I barely heard of, but I feel there're a ton of interesting conversations being lost/ignored - Heck, my favorite Ichiko Aoba's work came from their Radio show with Ryuichi Sakamoto, Haruomi Hosono and Keigo Oyamada backing her while she sang and played her iconic guitar)...
It's unbelievable how many bands and history you get just exploring the YMO-verse. I feel if people dig the City Pop/YMO-verse/Anime soundtrack (not just mainstream stuff, but for example, FLCL helped me get introduced to The Pillows) triunviratum, they basically fill a lifes worth of some of the best music ever created!
Japanese Video Game soundtrack history is also as important, but it's well known nowadays.
Guys like you are needed to share fantastic albums most never heard of!
Sorry for my wall of text.
Keep on doing your fantastic work!
Very interesting
I’ve been looking into shifting my music to more sample based production and this seems like the perfect inspiration to look towards
P.S- aren’t you in a Facebook group I’m also in as well?
Hey! Yes that is me
