I feel like there was for years long envious relationship beetween Jimmy and Curly, likely is that Jimmy was and still did envy Curly for possible successes we don't know while they were on Earth. And that envy and inferiority complex reached and broke boundaries once Jimmy needed to get in job desperately getting in by Curly's help. Although i would say he definitely had worser circumstances very likely than Curly, his personality definitely stuck him up to be such person even if he could done better or at least realized his mistakes on Earth like Swansea. (For me Swansea and Jimmy are kinda similar so that's why i doing comparison.)
I feel like there is a theme that most people did not pick up on, that the most fucked up people always have some kind of a tear-jerker sob story attached to them, which is why they got so fucked up in the first place. It then makes it too easy for others who care too much like Curly to feel sorry for them and try to help them out, which they then take advantage of. In this way, Curly was Jimmy's victim even long before the actual events in the game.

He said something along "I'm taking responsibility" but he isn't really. The "responsibility" he meant is actually curly. 😬

I wanted to say that this edit was so well made and the song choice encapsulated the grim and surreal reality within this short and beautiful game. I have completely completed the game and I feel somehow wrong. I have no idea how but the game really put pressure on me the whole way through. And the death of characters, and plot moments that are impossible to foresee. It's just crazy

Swansea was my favorite character personality wise because all he really wanted was for everyone to make it deep down. He comes off as old and cranky but with the exception of curly no one really reminded Anya she matters and gave her a place to go other than Swansea, and all he does is give Daisuke tough love, there's not a doubt in my mind he was saving the pod for either him or Anya
He has something Jimmy doesn't - introspection. He spent 13 years being a drunken deadbeat, then realized his lifestyle was "wrong" and tried to go straight, getting a job, a house, a family. Only to realize it didn't make him happy. For all his attempts to conform to this ideal of a "good" man, he was still the same person he was before - a person who LOVED indulging in all his basest desires without any obligations or responsibility. But unlike Jimmy, he was man enough to admit it to himself, and decide that if HE can't do better, he could at least try to help others do better. For all his grumpiness and complaining, he actually TRIED to teach and protect Daisuke instead of just kicking him away the moment he got onboard and having him mop the floors or something. I like to think he was saving the pod for Daisuke, because it's only after he dies that Swansea really "snaps" and tries to kill Jimmy so he doesn't get to have the happy ending he denied to everyone else. During his secret chat with Anya in the cockpit, where she cries and says "I understand it has to be this way", she's probably agreeing to give up her place in the pod for Daisuke. And at the very end of his monologue, he says he wanted to give Daisuke "one small chance to get off this rock", which makes it pretty much canon to me. The pod was for Daisuke.
something about curly laughing when jimmy takes the gun is so sad to me. Curly knows Jimmy caused all of this and is that he's frankly fucking insane, he just cant express it. He's watching Jimmy go bonkers and he can't do anything, he's laughing at him through pity. He's the captain and above Jimmy, watching Jimmy try to do things he simply just was not built for. its comedic to watch someone so insane do things, knowing you cant control it. This is Curly's only form of entertainment.
I think people forget that being a pacifist and being complicit is just as bad as the actions others have done. When you refuse to hold others accountable they tend to push it more and more until it comes to the point the situation is irredeemable. Curly is just as much of a villain in this as Jimmy is because he knew about the situation but refused to act because it he valued the peace of the ship over the safety of a single pixel- valued the illusion of peace and the full picture rather than a single dead pixel in the corner. Curly is put in the position Anya was by physically being stripped of having a voice or bodily autonomy and while the game doesn't frame this as punishment it showed him what Anya had to go through when faced with the abuse from Jimmy. Curly is just as bad because he knew about Jimmy's past, excused it and pulled strings in a company that held him in high regard because he saw potential for a friend to be better and rather have offered him that opportunity to Jimmy than protect the rest of his crew. Society often values the option to have second chances and puts it in such high regard to the point that they put others in danger. The point is that you can be optimistic about change especially in someone close but still hold them accountable for their actions which people tend to fail to do. Over and over again until it comes to the point the situation is unfix-able and the ship is dead in the middle of space and you have the face the responsibility for not only their actions but your own inability to act.
Not sure if villian, but he's a definite enabler. He didn't do anything to stop Jimmy despite knowing he's prone to anger or even just make Anya feel safe. And if he stopped Jimmy, Jimmy wouldn't have even crashed the ship. But he still is one of Jimmy's victims. Enabler turned victim; and an absolute horrible fate he went through in the end. He's a grey character because of that. (I do agree with the rest though; we don't know their exact past, and they seemed to be friends for a while but Jimmy definitely started spiraling somewhere since he started taking it out on others, and be purely upset towards Curly and Curly just left him alone despite that. )

I can't stop thinking about this game and this edit. It just fits. The music and these snippets from the game. This is one of the best edits if not the best. I love it so much Btw the ending is awesome too lol
Okay so this was the only thing I saw about the game before buying it 2 weeks later but my memory was kinda hazy so the entire time up until the Anya reveal I was absolutely deadset on the belief that Curly was the bad guy and was somehow going to stand up and shoot somebody sitting in a chair, which made the entire experience so much worse in a good way.
I want to rant about this game so. We know that Jimmy r@ped Anya but the child gets a regret scene not Anya?! Why? Because he's a dick and doesn't care about people. He's probably just America but a person. For the debate between if Swansea or Jimmy is better, it's Swansea because he know his mistakes, his faults and his past and tries to become a better person than what he was before. On Jimmys side, he denies he's a bad person and thinks he's a hero. For Daisuke, the only reason he's there because his parents thought he needed a job. Which makes me sadder because he could've gotten a happier life if his parents chose this job. HE WAS 21!! It wasn't even Curlys fault that the ship crashed. IT WAS JIMMYS! Why did he do it? Because he r@ped Anya and felt "guilty" for doing so. And you know what he got out of it. Curly not being able to function properly. I fucking hate jimmy. Everyone else should've gotten happy endings.

honestly, not saying i glorify jimmy, but his character is complex. we're never told WHY he acts the way he does. i see everyone hating on him and i get it, he did terrible things, but in my head i like to think he was evaluated wrong because curly had favoritism for him. clearly he isn't mentally sound, he should have been evaluated better. i personally like the concept of jimmy in a game like this. im not glorifying his actions, just complex characters with little info are a favorite.

Okay so this was the only thing I saw about the game before buying it 2 weeks later but my memory was kinda hazy so the entire time up until the Anya reveal I was absolutely deadset on the belief that Curly was the bad guy and was somehow going to stand up and shoot somebody sitting in a chair, which made the entire experience so much worse in a good way.

I want to rant about this game so.
We know that Jimmy r@ped Anya but the child gets a regret scene not Anya?! Why? Because he's a dick and doesn't care about people. He's probably just America but a person.
For the debate between if Swansea or Jimmy is better, it's Swansea because he know his mistakes, his faults and his past and tries to become a better person than what he was before. On Jimmys side, he denies he's a bad person and thinks he's a hero.
For Daisuke, the only reason he's there because his parents thought he needed a job. Which makes me sadder because he could've gotten a happier life if his parents chose this job. HE WAS 21!!
It wasn't even Curlys fault that the ship crashed. IT WAS JIMMYS! Why did he do it? Because he r@ped Anya and felt "guilty" for doing so. And you know what he got out of it. Curly not being able to function properly.
I fucking hate jimmy. Everyone else should've gotten happy endings.

honestly, not saying i glorify jimmy, but his character is complex. we're never told WHY he acts the way he does. i see everyone hating on him and i get it, he did terrible things, but in my head i like to think he was evaluated wrong because curly had favoritism for him. clearly he isn't mentally sound, he should have been evaluated better.
i personally like the concept of jimmy in a game like this.
im not glorifying his actions, just complex characters with little info are a favorite.
