    Just received my GCE this morning thank you. I’m still a novice, yet I was able to use pre ground Lavazza in the pressurized basket pulling a great shot. Didn’t need to go through any crazy gyrations to get a very nice result. Pre heated the machine for 10 minutes with the porter filter in place. I purged just before pulling the shot, installed the porter filter and turned the steam on for 5 seconds. Then ran the shot, and had a beautiful espresso result. Not bad for a first time I thought, I steamed the milk which came out so so, I’ll have to work on that ! So all in all, I’m very pleased with my new Gaggia !!

      Hi tm, Congrat on your new machine. I have not used that grinder with the GCEP. My guess is it does not have the same precision in the espresso range as grinder I would recommend for espresso. Grind size is critical when making espresso. If you can't get a good shot using the non-pressurized filter basket you can use the pressurized with single hole. It's more forgiving of imperfect grind size. If not familiar with how to dial in grind size watch this video which explains the process: ruclips.net/video/unHHToGjshI/видео.html

    Heb er lang geleden ook een gehad. Prima apparaat, voor thuis. De toevoeging “pro” is natuurlijk flauwekul. Dat veronderstelt dat dit apparaat ook in een commerciële omgeving op zijn plaats is en dat is onzin.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  8 месяцев назад +2

      Reactie: Als je er al lang geleden een had, heeft de "EVO Pro" -versie een aantal belangrijke veranderingen ondergaan, zoals een handmatige stoompijp in commerciële stijl, 9 bar OPV in Noord-Amerikaanse modellen en een roestvrijstalen portafilter. U heeft gelijk: dit product is niet geschikt en ook niet bedoeld voor gebruik in een commerciële omgeving.
      Coment translation:
      Had one a long time ago too. Great device for home use. The addition “pro” is of course nonsense. That assumes that this device is also appropriate in a commercial environment and that is nonsense.
      Response: If you had one a long time ago the "EVO Pro" version has some significant changes like a commercial style manual steam wand, 9 bar OPV in North American models and stainless steel portafilter. You are correct this product is not appropriate nor intended for use in a commercial setting.

    If you’re not planning to make another cup of espresso immediately, do you still need to cool down the boiler or will it cool automatically after some time has passed?
    Does this have the same pressure valve upgrade as the EVO, or is it a plain (old style) classic + brass boiler?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  18 дней назад

      Hey chianti95, After steaming it's always best practice to cool down the boiler. The between the pre and post steaming purges you are removing some water from the boiler and a small amount in the form of steam. That water is not replaced until the pump runs and pump only runs when brew switch is turned on.
      The EVO Pro model and newer E24 (with full brass boiler) version all have the 9 bar spring for units in North America.

    Is there any improvement to be had in the order of brewing and steaming? E.g. is it better to steam first and get the temp to drop before brewing or vice versa and have the machine heating up for the steam after brewing?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  Год назад +5

      Hey l, Ahh, the great debate! It mostly comes down to personal preference. Mine is to brew first and then steam as there's less time with the frothed milk sitting around and separating. Push the steam button right after pulling your espresso and 20-25 seconds later machine is ready to froth. I believe this is the most efficient workflow and results in superior drinks. But a coworker here does the opposite. I think he's nuts! :)

    Love my 2019 Gaggia Classic. However, as all of the machines in this price range, it has its weak points: The steam valve seems to be its achilles heel. The brass needle hits a brass valve body which, over time, inevitably creates a small cavity and therefore a leak. Replaced mine with a custom PTFE needle steam valve from Shades of Coffee. I cannot wrap my head around the fact that Gaggia hasn’t corrected this inherently flawed design after 30 years, especially given that alternative valve designs don’t cost more.

    The problems:
    - NO PID
    - Need spring to low it to 9 BAR (worldwide model needs it)
    - To trully make it to shine you need to mod it
    Professional models start from 3~4 BAR then it goes to 9 after a while.

    That black tamp looks way too small for the portafilter basket

      Hi gf, Thanks for the comment. Def recommend you upgrade the tamper. The included one is useable but not ideal. It's similar to what was provided out of box from many manufacturers (even on prosumer models) for many years. Still what you get with the Classic to help keep the price down.

      Sorry to hear that - fill from the top access and never have to deal with the hoses.

    How can extraction be 25 seconds for double AND single
    Makes no sense , so you have to compact single espresso much harder to get 25 seconds

      Hi Gary, You are correct - on the surface it does not make sense. But look close, a single shot basket has fewer holes in the bottom so has a much lower flow rate.
