  • The Etowah Mounds in Cartersville, Georgia are a sacred place for Muscogee and Cherokee peoples. The land was once a thriving city where the Indigenous lived abundantly off the land. They were forcibly removed in the 1830s and they left behind the mounds as well as a large variety of important artifacts.
    Thanks to the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act and an official repatriation claim by the Muscogee Nation, many of these artifacts are now being returned to the descendants of their original owners. The land remains owned and managed by the State of Georgia.

    Thanks for showing this. My family was on The Trail of Tears. I hope to visit the mounds before I die, to see the land my ancestors came from. Wa-do
