Great to see you back, Richard - always a treat when I see a new video! More importantly, glad you’re safe after the roo incident - hope the insurance hassle is more straightforward than feared. The NZ trip looks epic. Somewhere that’s well and truly on my list.
Wow fabulous weather you had here and great images as always. So glad you enjoyed our beautiful NZ. Hope your car is feeling better soon. Poor ol' Roo.
Richard, looks like a lot of fun was had by all. Glad you escaped the roo encounter ok. Plastic, glass and metal can be replaced but you can’t be. That bull bar certainly saved you from serious injury. The light plane trip onto the snow would have been terrific.🎉. Luv NZ.
Good to see you back with some amazing photography once again. My godson Lee Cook is a New Zealand photographer and was voted Astrophotographer of the Year in NZ, he, along with you have been my inspiration over the past years.
Great shots. Richard brings back a lot of memories over 5 weeks spent there as well. Most of those spots I have pictures of. And it is just car damage. Nobody got hurt and that's the best thing.
Sorry to hear about the accident. The most important thing is that you were not hurt. Cars can be repaired or replaced. New Zealand looks terrific. One day I will have to go south and join you, your tours look like fun. I‘m glad to see you back posting videos, I have missed them.
South Island in New Zealand is an awesome place, not so many ruins but the landscape is amazing. Glad to see you took some time out for yourself. As for the Roo, could only imagine what one would do to my little car. Love the photos.
We loved our Outback and were upset when a deer ran into us! It did less damage than your vehicle suffered, but it set off all the airbags, so insurance wrote off the car. 😢 Beautiful images as always, Richard…you are my photographic inspiration!
Fantastic photo's from the trip, Richard!! New Zealand is such a great place for inspiring landscapes and experiences. Will certainly look into the future tours if there are any spots left.
Welcome back Richard! Glad you were able to take a well deserved vacation. I could use one right now! Anyway, looking forward to seeing more of your videos soon. Take care, Jerry.
Fantastic trip, beautiful photos, N.Z. is very beautiful. Family holidays are precious to maintain good family harmony. Thank you for sharing this experience Richard
Thank you Richard for bring back my memories of my Astrophotography trip to New Zealand. New Zealand really a gorgeous place. It is the place where I fall in love with the Astrophotography way back to 2017 when I first visit the South Island. Astrophotography in Hooker Valley Track really amazing. I saw you took a the swing bridge with the milky way too. I did that composition too but i failed because the milky way was high in May and I haven't learn your lighting painting skills too. Thanks for your kindly sharing and may the kangaroo also run away before you drive nearby. Also clear sky all the time😉 Take Care, Tik from Bortle 9 Hong Kong
That last image was breathtaking, also loved the one of the lupens, church and Magellanic cloud! Looks like you all had a great adventure, not too many places top New Zealand for dramatic landscapes. Hope the Subaru gets fixed up soon. So many roos on the roads at the moment 😬
Looks like you had a bit of fun with Levin and the Group. NZ is a beautiful country with many contrasting landscapes. It has great potential for nightscapes provided the weather cooperates. Bad news about the Roo crash and the Subaru. You know how much I like dodging them at night. 😒😊😎
Welcome back Richard. Images are outstanding. Unlucky with your encounter with the roo. We were lucky 24,000km and didn’t hit any wildlife. Hope the insurance works faster than you indicated.
I was actually getting a bit worried when you hadn't posted for a while so welcome back Richard and great photos as usual even if you had to try and fit them in for a bit of the personal side, as for the car damage insurance time might not be the worst part with all our panel shops being inundated with work for the best part of 2 yrs now which both my wife and I found out with us both hitting roo's in Feb and March last year and taking until January this yr to have both cars fixed although mine was worse due to being a little 1981 mazda 323 and parts hard to find without buying a whole car.
There are some incredible and absolutly beautiful photgraps in this video Richard. Ive just watched this for a second time to just wonder at how beautiful they are.
A tour to remember - so many locations and ops to shoot landscapes, nightscapes, astro. Really well organised. Thanks for your mentoring and photography support. :D
Great video Richard welcome back to Aus. It was a great trip and lovely to meet you. Thankyou for many laughs and your frienship and mentoring. I really enjoyed the trip with our fantastic crew and you and Levin. 😊📸
Simply beautiful work, Richard. I hope your Subaru is repaired with little difficulty. Mine was damaged in a hailstorm and it took almost a year to complete all the repairs. Things will get better.
Richard, good to see you back on the RUclips and sorry to hear about the Roo hitting the car.. hope you were okay prior to your joruney.. Great images and good to see you with NIlesh shooting images.. I was in NZ for 3 weeks for family holidays and what a stunning landscape it has.. You got some incredible images at Mt Cook, Boulders and many other places.. If I knew you were in town, may have arranged to meet up.. Now, see you soon in WA
Thanks Virat. I think you may have been there before me as I saw some of your great images previously. I'm trying to free my schedule to find space for a trip to WA ..!!!!!
@ you may be correct as I was there during school holidays for WA.. assume you were in only South Island and so much Nightscapes to capture .. I had a bad run with weather so will return here for sure and North is good too.. Greg won the Astro tourism category in Astrofest so we will be planning a trip to north as well .. once you Le schedule is freed up , let me and Greg know so we can get together
Good to see a fresh video from you Richard. Roo hitting the car while catching a plane, what a nightmare! Great that the bullbar saved the day. Great images from NZ. Would love to see your NZ roadtrip adventure next time. 👍🏼
Stunning images Richard absolutely magical, also you say the bull bar saved the car, I think it saved you as well great to see you back home safe and well in one pice 😊
Hitting a roo isn’t the best way to start a trip☹️ Thank you for sharing your photos, I’m glad you both got to have a holiday while you were over in NZ
Loved seeing your wonderful images of New Zealand Richard and sounds like it was a full on experience! There is so much to see here and glad you had some time out as well. Very sorry about you car, the Kangaroo and can imagine the stress you must have experienced. Glad you are ok. Thanks for sharing.
Super selection of images Richard - that pano at the end featuring the MW, Magellanic Cloud and aurora is a beauty 👏. Sounds like your trip to NZ was a well-deserved tonic!
I remember that highway when I was coming to see you, and saw many of them on the side of the road and there is some big suckers almost as big as our NZ sheep! 😁 Great photos, it's really cool to see some different compositions from the normal we see in some of these places. I hope you and the boss enjoyed your holiday time.
Richard, I hope your insurance claim flys through no problems! It looks like everyone had fun while making great photos. Last week I rewatched your video on doing timelapses with the Z6II and you gave me good advice, thanks!
Great video and timing Richard. I've been trying to talk Jan into letting me buy a bullbar for the Delica. Now all I have to do is show her your video half a dozen times and it's as good as bought. Seriously though, I can understand your frightening situation, having had one slam into the passenger door when I was the passenger.
Wonderful images. New Zealand is on my bucket list. Sorry to hear about your car (and the kangaroo). A similar thing happened to my brother and me, but it was a deer. We were on our way back to his house after having been up in the mountains shooting at night. But he didn't have a bull bar, so there was several thousand dollars of damage. He rebuilt the front end of his truck himself. Not sure if they have these for kangaroo, but here in the US, we have deer whistles that you can mount to your car. They're designed in such a way that each whistle of a pair is built differently than the other. As the air passes through them, together, they create a shrill noise that only the deer can hear, and it generally wards them off. I think they work pretty well, because I've seen them scatter as I approach, whereas before I had the whistles, the deer would just stay and stare ("deer in the headlights gaze"). So, it is something to look for in an auto parts store - $20 or less. Looking forward to your next video. Glad you're alright.
Had already been kinda worried - such a long time with no videos. Glad to see you back after what must have been a brilliant time in NZ. Actually feeling a little jealous of you 😂. Boy would I love to travel to Oz and NZ. Even more glad that you didn’t get hurt in the kangaroo accident! Looking forward to your next video. Take care and drive carefully 😉
been looking forward to this.... Its funny looking at your own country going I know those spots...lol great shots looks like a good time was had by all. When you come back next year take some time and goto the catlins and nugget point.....its a great astro spot (be a bit late at that time of the year) but amazing scenary down there
Looks like an amazing trip, brilliant images as always. Sorry to hear about your roo encounter, they are never any fun at all. Can’t help but make me think about my experience a few weekends ago touring some American friends around South Aus and all they wanted to see were kangaroos in the wild and all the while I am hoping not to encounter them as you did 😂. Found some (well heaps)near one of my favorite shooting locations so they were happy in the end and my outback came away unscathed. I hope the insurance works out without to much trouble.
Some nice images there mate. I've been visiting NZ every other year, for almost 20 years and have only managed to catch aurora twice 😅 Regarding your kangaroo encounter, depending upon where the hit was, at that speed I feel like the airbags should have maybe deployed. Krásné prostředí a krajina.Super fotografie🙂👍
Thank you so much for watching.
Stunning collection of images Richard, and so much aurora 😍
Thanks Greg. Yes there was so much aurora while we were there . .nothing really big but it was very noticeable.
Wonderful shots and a great video - thanks Richard!
You're very welcome Darrel
Merci Richard pour ces belles images !
Thanks as always for watching Patrick.
Great to see you back, Richard - always a treat when I see a new video! More importantly, glad you’re safe after the roo incident - hope the insurance hassle is more straightforward than feared. The NZ trip looks epic. Somewhere that’s well and truly on my list.
It's such a wonderfully beautiful place for any type of photography Paul. Appreciate you watching.
fantastic set of images, that last pano is sublime....hope the repairs on the car go well and good on that roo bar for doing its job 😊
Thanks so much Trevor. Yes the repair job may well be a drawn out saga I fear.
Great to have you back! You inspire my own nightscape RUclips adventures 🙂
Thanks for your encouragement Martin, really appreciated.
New Zealand is a beautiful place! Looks like you had a great time with time to relax with a break after the tour. Regards Matt
Thanks a lot Matt
Wow fabulous weather you had here and great images as always. So glad you enjoyed our beautiful NZ. Hope your car is feeling better soon. Poor ol' Roo.
The weather was certainly cooler than back home in Australia .. but I enjoyed it.
You kept that trip quiet Richard, and next year is already sold out. Astro in New Zealand, still on my bucket list.
Yes it was organised pretty quickly Allan. And then when I mentioned about it . .all the spots went straight away ..!!!
Richard, looks like a lot of fun was had by all. Glad you escaped the roo encounter ok. Plastic, glass and metal can be replaced but you can’t be. That bull bar certainly saved you from serious injury. The light plane trip onto the snow would have been terrific.🎉. Luv NZ.
It was awesome Andrew. Loved every minute.
I would love to go to New Zealand. Great pictures .
New Zealand is wonderful.
Good to see you back with some amazing photography once again. My godson Lee Cook is a New Zealand photographer and was voted Astrophotographer of the Year in NZ, he, along with you have been my inspiration over the past years.
That's wonderful Peter. I have seen some of Lee's work . .excellent.
Great shots. Richard brings back a lot of memories over 5 weeks spent there as well. Most of those spots I have pictures of. And it is just car damage. Nobody got hurt and that's the best thing.
Yes very true Jeff. I remember when you did the New Zealand segment of your adventure.
Sorry to hear about the accident. The most important thing is that you were not hurt. Cars can be repaired or replaced. New Zealand looks terrific. One day I will have to go south and join you, your tours look like fun. I‘m glad to see you back posting videos, I have missed them.
Always greatly appreciate your comments David.
Glad u & your wife are safe. Beautiful images Richard & it's great to have some time out for yerselfes.
God bless. 👍🇮🇪
Thanks as always Vivian.
One of my desires is to go back to the South Island touring around capturing landscapes.
It's a great spot to do just that Phillip
South Island in New Zealand is an awesome place, not so many ruins but the landscape is amazing. Glad to see you took some time out for yourself. As for the Roo, could only imagine what one would do to my little car. Love the photos.
Thanks so much Graeme. Yes I did find a few ruins but they are few and far between over there.
We loved our Outback and were upset when a deer ran into us! It did less damage than your vehicle suffered, but it set off all the airbags, so insurance wrote off the car. 😢 Beautiful images as always, Richard…you are my photographic inspiration!
Yes I hit the roo more on the side of the car so airbags were not deployed.
Looks a great workshop in New Zealand Richard, some wonderful images there.
Yes it was fantastic Carl
Fantastic photo's from the trip, Richard!! New Zealand is such a great place for inspiring landscapes and experiences. Will certainly look into the future tours if there are any spots left.
Thanks John. It was a wonderful trip.
Welcome back Richard! Glad you were able to take a well deserved vacation. I could use one right now! Anyway, looking forward to seeing more of your videos soon. Take care, Jerry.
Always appreciate your comments Jerry.
Thanks for sharing Richard. Really glad you also took pictures of the group and people. Really shows what was involved with such an adventure!
It sure was a wonderful adventure. Thanks for watching.
Great pictures.like the ultimate holiday snaps on steroids 😂
Haha, yes it was a bit like that.
Stunning images Richard, absolutely loved NZ when we went last August. The roo bar worked a treat.
Thanks Dennis. Yes a beautiful country that's for sure.
Looked like a great trip, NZ’s on my bucket list. Maby next year. 🖖
It's a great spot for photography Gavin.
I feel sorry for both the car and the kangaroo. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time... A beautiful country and great photos!
Yes and it's a very common occurrence here in Australia. Thanks for watching.
Great images…wild about the Roo! In Canada we have to worry about Deer and Moose, never ever thought about Kangaroo! 🦘 😂📸
Same end result I assume Jason. Kangaroos are deadly over here.
@ same in most cases…moose are so big they can destroy your vehicle and still walk away from it, it’s crazy.
@@JasonLorette Yes that's crazy.

Haha, yes Geoff. I don't think the Mustang would look too good with a roo imprint on the front ..!!! Loved NZ.
Welcome back Richard. Images are outstanding.
Unlucky with your encounter with the roo. We were lucky 24,000km and didn’t hit any wildlife.

Glad to see you back. Hope you are all good. Thanks so much for the update and video.

Thanks so much Philip

Thanks Derek. Yes the joys of travelling a lot at night I guess.
Yep 6am is a bad time for Roos! They are in plague numbers at the moment!
Yes absolutely they do seem to be everywhere at present.

Thanks for tuning in. Yes the car is a worry .. but it's repairable.
Glad to see you have been fine!
Appreciate you watching.
Thank God you don't have moose to contend with too. Glad you were safe
Yes I've heard those moose are very dangerous John.
Thanks Richard. Shoo roos are popular
Yes they are .. I'm not sure how effective they are however.
Looks like an amazing trip, brilliant images as always. Sorry to hear about your roo encounter, they are never any fun at all. I've been visiting NZ every other year, for almost 20 years and have only managed to catch aurora twice 😅
Regarding your kangaroo encounter, depending upon where the hit was, at that speed I feel like the airbags should have maybe deployed.
I've seen with bullbars on 4WDs, where the bar has basically altered the proper operation of the crumple zones enough to make the airbags not function correctly.
Might be wrong but worth considering in your case.
Yes it was the LH front corner and I think a lot of the impact was down the side of the car rather than directly in front. The bar has bent back . .which is what they are supposed to do. These bars are supposed to support the original air bag requirements.

Thanks so much Colin.
Thanks Richard...I was wondering which were 2 lenses you took with you?
I took a 20mm f1.8 for nightscapes and the 24-70 f4 for landscapes.
Great episode.
Boo roo roo, for the kangaroo.
Yes I don't think he ended up well at all Leon.
@nightscapeimages.richard The circle of Life sometimes ends with a good bumper.
Beautiful pics Richard, would love to do something like that, out of my budget..... Did you have a refreshing time away with your wife? Glad you weren't hurt in the roo incident

Another great video with stunning images. By the way: which is the title of the soundtrack you used? It is very beautiful.
Thanks so much. It's called Beyond Exploding Stars of Water I get my soundtracks from Epidemic Sound
@nightscapeimages.richard , thanks a lot for the reply.
Did you go to the bay of islands, that's the only part of nz I know, from a novel I read, I hear its beautiful
No that's in a different part of NZ

Did you use astro mod cam for those astro landscape photos ?
Yes, all the astro images are Z6ii with visible + H-alpha mod. 20mm lens
