  • The Lockheed AH-56 Cheyenne is an attack helicopter developed by Lockheed for the United States Army. It was created as part of the Army's Advanced Aerial Fire Support System (AAFSS) program, marking the introduction of the service's first dedicated attack helicopter. The Cheyenne featured a four-blade rigid-rotor system and was designed as a compound helicopter, incorporating low-mounted wings and a tail-mounted thrust propeller powered by a General Electric T64 turboshaft engine. It was intended to offer high-speed dash capabilities to provide armed escort for the Army's transport helicopters, such as the Bell UH-1 Iroquois.

This thing could do what the Apache and the A-10 could do simultaneously and the army and Air Force couldn't agree. 🙄 for what Americans pay in taxes we should have got all three !!! The Cheyenne would have been a perfect escort to the osprey V-22. WTF 😒
