I spent a week in North Korea and apart from a few people in the distance pointing and laughing in disbelief at our tour group, we never had any interactions with the locals; it almost felt like we were ghosts that the locals couldn’t see or acknowledge. This is the first video I’ve ever seen of North Koreans interacting, and laughing with a tourist. Amazing!
Many of the RUclips videos I saw about North-Korea was about just filming the crazy dictatorship and make viewers shocked. But you had also a humble goal with this trip, and you put a smile on the people's faces. Big respect!
Its like my old racist grandpa. Racist against black people but he was chill with every black person he met. They all just happened to be "one of the good ones" his mentality was essentially that he just got lucky and never met the bad ones hahaha. He didn't hate black people, he hated a mythical boogie man he was raised to believe in that doesn't even exist but loved the actual black people he knew. Or on the flip side in todays era I read about a survey of black people in the US and the questions were like "do you think the US is racist' and stuff like that then asked if they've ever encountered significant racism in their life. And like a majority of black people believed that most blacks face racism but the majority of them also said they had been lucky and hadn't encountered it themselves. Just making a point about human psychology and how we rationalize things to fit with our world view.
@@McCarthy1776 Statistically and scientifically he's right I would say around 20% are actual good genuine people maybe he has just got lucky and found the good ones or he picks and chooses filters out all the bad ones and only talks to the good ones.
It is clear that North Korea is easing up a little. He would never have been permitted into schools to "do his stuff". He would not have been "followed", he would have had a "guide" with him at every moment. Well done Jesper! Marvellous video which unfortunately was too short :-)
When Jong-Un took power we thought the same thing because the security on the border became very lax and more and more people could defect, but he changed his mind at some point and spent a lot of money (for DPRK standards) on raising security on the border with China, and now yearly defectors are at an all time low. Bottom line, the Kim regime, the Juche philosophy must fall.
The point of a guide in North Korea isn’t about being a tour guide, but instead a government appointed chaperone that directs where you can or cannot go, will note what you say and review what you record, and otherwise is there to ensure you only see and experience what the State will allow you to. They’re less tour guide and more intelligence agent and part of the propaganda machine
