Pre-Trip Inspection. Every POINT or correct inspection of all items matters.

Okay this is probably the best air break video on YT rn…most of these videos don’t show us the dashboard
Watch rob larson from Caltrans pre-trip and air brake video is very good on this.. the only problem with this truck is it would not be usable because of the message in his dash
Thinking about getting my CDL A. Great video, Sir !
Thank you. Very helpful refresher!
Passed mine with this check list.. only different was a 10 speed manual for no restrictions on Cdl and also used a 12 point brake check..
and your right all Volvos low warning buzzer only sounds when engin is running.
1.static pressure no more than 3psi in one min.
2.apply pressure no more than 4psi in one min.

Texas..
Congratulations 🎉🎊🍾
@@truckerstevecdlinstructor thank you..next will be all my endorsements, Hazmat, doubles, and tanker.. thanks for your videos they are extremely helpful..
The only thing I would say for the test that you left off would be removing seat belt, taking the key & with 3 points of contact get out & chock the driver side front wheel. Then climbing back in *(the same way). Then again after fanning the service brake to below 40 psi & both valves pop going to get the chocks *(the same way) to start in cab & tug test. Besides that great tutorial!
👍😺
Does that only apply if your in an automatic truck?
Review your CDL drivers manual: please state the page number and section for the seat belt. Removing the key- 🔑 chocking the front wheel ( yes if the tractor rolls away because the wheel was not chock, that a failure but students can also put it in first gear before fanning the air). Valves pop out at about 20 psi on most vehicles. I am a state tester but always follow your CDL school instructions. I follow the state CDL driver manual for testing.
Thank you for your comment.
Thanks for clarification…..
Thank You!!!!!!
Thanks so much 🙏 💓 this news truck 🚚 I'm refugees refugees in Kenya 🇰🇪
Best to you 😎
Steve can you do a video from the inside for the backing menuaver last step of the skills test we always see outside but just to get a idea of from the inside how much to turn etc i think that will be al helpfull thanks again for all your great videos your really a good trainer 👍
No longer training at a school but what backing skill do you need help with. Are you doing the new skills- reverse offset back?
Hey Steve, I'm in school now. I'm having a hard time with reverse offset.
Yes - updated skills all students and new drivers must master backing skills
@@lavernealexander708 first master the straight line backing. Then master or learn to move the trailer to the left and back to the right. The trailer only goes where you let it go. If the trailer starts to drift to the left, you steer to the left- as soon as the trailer starts to drift back to the right - don’t steer anymore. If it drifts to much to the right, stop it by steering a little to the right. Once you master or understand this, you can do the reverse back. Check all videos on reverse backing and also the offset videos. Who is the boss of the trailer- the trailer or you.?
Back up and move that trailer to the left and right - making it dance and you are in control. It okay to make mistakes when practicing- just ask yourself what did I do wrong and try again.
@@truckerstevecdlinstructor Thank you.
When you do the air leak down test it's supposed to be my cut off my air governor will cut off and between 1:20 and 1:40 PSI not just 120
I will build up air pressure until the Governor cuts off between 120 - 140 psi.
Keep your windows open - you will hear the hiss - tell the examiner: my governor has. Cut off at 120 ( or higher - give the psi) and is working properly. Know your vehicle- not all vehicles are the same- it’s your responsibility to know everything about this test.
Could you please explain the rate of build air compressor 85 psi to 100 psi
Step 1 of the Modernization in-cab air brake leak test is :
Start up Engine ( suggested is to keep your driver window down ) to build up air pressure - you will build up air pressure until the Air Compressor cut off ( you will hear it - say my air compressor cut off at 120 psi ( some may cut off a little higher )
Note : As you drive and brake, air pressure is loss and then will build back up to the manufacture specifications . You will or may hear the hiss . Some tractors have a slight air leak- but the air pressure will build back up until the air compressor cuts off. So whenever standing by a running tractor you may hear that hissing.
Hope this helps or your question was answered.
When we are ready to go in the truck 🚚 shoukd i chock the wheels 🛞 or only do it when im about to do the air break test
Before you starting the in cab inspection, Chock your wheels.
Before getting into the cab.
@@truckerstevecdlinstructor gotcha do I remove them when I'm ready to do the service break test
@@AmericanTrucker89 when you complete the in cab or complete the pre trip inspection, remove the chock before starting your range skills.
Isn’t the pop out between 20 & 45psi?
Review your CDL drivers manual for your state. The psi for the pop out has changed under the new modernization test.
You no show the brake pump and no show you me fire slender
Heyy !! I need help
Where can I reach you privately ???
flynware@hotmail.com.
Forgot to check the seat belt
Please review your CDL state drivers manual: send me the page number with the seat belt inspection. Also you are only required to inspect items on the check off list ( if you’re state is doing the updated test) so so me where the seat belt is on that list.
Note: if your CDL school wants you to inspect the seat belts, DO IT! For safety reasons, all drivers should check their seat belts. Not on the test.
You forgot ABS indicator working properly…😅
Oh yes I did! Did you View the entire video?
When I first turned the key to the on position, I should have mentioned it at that point. When I did the indicators , I mentioned the ABS Indicators.
So can you mention it after lets say the brake tests? Like say o yeah I forgot to mention my abs light is working properly?
@@abrahamcisneros1425 just dont forget. You got 45 minutes to do your entire test…
@@abrahamcisneros1425 yes, the only automatic failure is the air brake leak test. All other items, you can go back and inspect or inspect again if you feel you didn’t do it right the first time. Once you say this completes my pre-trip, it’s over.
It's malfunctioning

Woodlawn md and Carroll County Community College. If you live in Maryland, the college is the one to go to. Go to the College to apply- Westminster, Md.
He did not test air pressure loss in 1 min. without peddle applied 2psi tractor only, 3psi tractor with Trailer.
Air loss allowed with Pedal applied loss 3psi tractor only 4psi tractor with Trailer
On the modernization test, there is three parts to the test.
1. The governor cut off between 120 to 140 psi - was done
2. Applied air pressure test. Firmly applied to Service break and allowed air pressure stabilize. Once the air pressure stabilize, the time started- the tractor trailer did not loose more than 4 psi in the one minute.
That is step two- done
Are you a tester? CDL Instructor?
Thus also works for class B trucks
@@traviscarter1023 3 psi instead of 4 psi
Review the rest with your instructor. Also review your CDL Drivers Manual.
@@truckerstevecdlinstructor Yeah I'm getting ready for my road test in a straight truck it's a automatic. One I pass that gotta take it again in a 6-speed manual then going for class A after all of this.
It's PSI
Not PSI's.
Yes. - thanks
