My father helped develop the hardware for this phone, it was the final project they did before Nokia started laying off everyone. They closed the operations they were running in Canada around 2008. I still have a prototype version laying in a bin upstairs I inherited from him.
It's really cool to see people still talking about something he was passionate about.

You talk like you despise the N95. That phone was literally the king of smartphones back in the day. And probably sold more than the iPhone despite the price. Because it was just better in almost every way. There was nothing like it. Symbian was also so far ahead back then that it would put shame into even desktop operating systems. Even now that OS is way better in some aspects than ios and android os’s. It was a jewel alright but a rough one. It’s a shame that Nokia never truly polished it.
Btw both phones had 64mbs of RAM not 128.

The N95 was amazing when it came out in terms of features, nothing else like it. It was just very expensive but it had features that weren't available on other phones for years. I don't think I spoke poorly about the phone at all, always thought it was amazing and never had the chance to try it out when it was first released. It was the phone that did it all. You are right about the RAM on the N95 it was only 64, the iphone however did have 128. Anyway, thanks for watching!

America had N95-3 that had 128MB of RAM. Rest was exactly the same as N95-1.

I got an n95 as soon as it was in the shop's back in 2007...I was very impressed by the camera and how well it performed in low light.
Also all of the other feature's...it was flawless when using it in hand's free mode while driving(without any fancy optional equipment) something that only the latest 2019 phone's are only catching up with due to better equiped ICE system's not the phone's them sellve's.
Another great thing was the GPS which was exellent as you did not have to buy one for your car and it was right there in your pocket/on your belt when ever you need it...Ahh the good old day''s.
Such a shame Nokia went belly up thank's to IOS/Android...in fact i was looking for something the other day and there It was in a plastic measuring jug.
Oh and one more thing...the battery lasted way longer and you did not need to buy a new memory card every couple of week's.
    RIP Nokia N series.:(

    • @MrCooper83
      @MrCooper83 3 года назад

@@thealterlion7163 it did not. But dont forget it was Apple’s very first smartphone.
N95 was packed with features. The original iPhone did not have all of them but Apple put a great HW and SW together. I still have a working iPhone at home in mint condition.
I remember when the first iPhone came out. People complained about its huge display, the lack of memory card slot, mms, bluetooth file transfer, radio. Most of the people believed that Apple will fail because iPhone wont be successful. I remember the endless arguments on tech forums about this phone.. Apple not only became one of the most significant smartphone maker but Nokia was forced out of business because people wanted iPhone or an iPhone like phone...
Sad how Nokia was once the biggest company and they completely disappeared within a few years after the iPhone..

Just searching N95 Nokia in 2019 and here I am reminiscing over one of my fav phones I had back in the day when they first came out! It was light years ahead of anything else at the time including the first iPhone, most people still had those awful flip style phones with the tiny screens 😯😊😁👍
I loved the dual flip mechanism, it was so smooth and satisfying to operate, I liked the built in stereo speakers, 3 5mm audio Jack, dedicated multimedia buttons, massive 8gb built in memory. I liked the chunky form factor and how from the back it appeared to look like a compact camera.
I remember comparing it to a friends iPhone and he was showing off his new 'superior' more expensive phone but seemed very disappointed that my phone had features that his iPhone lacked, the nokia had a Carl zeiss lens and 5mp camera with LED flash and a dedicated camera shutter button, his iphone only had a 2mp camera that couldn't even record video! 😁😯
Mine had a stereo fm radio the iphone didn't, there was no bluetooth feature or IR port on his, mine had both, the nokia had a good gps map system built in, his iphone had no gps or map!
The Nokia had far superior stereo sound compared to his iphone and a removable battery! It was clear the Nokia was a far better phone and half the price of the iphone! 👍😎 Missing my N95 8gb 🙁

I’m a user of an iPhone, but I have to be honest, Nokia n95 was better than the first iPhone. It’s true, n95 worked in a traditional way instead of using the innovation of touchscreen, but anyway, you were able to do more things with n95. Apple improved their iPhones during the next years and these devices became incredible smartphones, but Nokia N95 was the king of 2007. In my opinion, the iPhones became relevant until 2010 with iPhone 4. It was a Good video by the way

GPS on N95 only worked well when the phone had the keypad exposed and had to lay it flat or at an angle of 45 degrees for the app to connect with the stattelite. Also the Nokia maps wasn't great Tom Tom hacked version worked well but the GPS reciever on the phone didn't work well. A huge downfall so an Bluetooth GPS reciever was used to get the TomTom working.

The way the iPhone was sold off it was like Apple had reinvented the wheel! I knew back then NOT to opt for iPhone, the only reason why I went for the iPhone 12 Pro Max (my first Apple phone) was due the size and spec, but it took 12 iterations of the iPhone to finally make it attractive, and the 12 Pro Max was not without its faults, I have since gone for the 14 Pro Max and things are getting better. In actual fact, it has taken Apple 14 attempts for their phones to come even close to NOKIA N95, which was way ahead of its time at the time. NOKIA as a brand was far superior to Apple. The touch screen on Apple is a pile, it sticks or is unresponsive - when typing the amount of times I have hit the right letter for it to input the wrong letter is beyond annoying. The only phone I have no tried is Samsung, and the thing that put me off those handsets were the exploding batteries.
