    Judging from the post most seem to be in favour of the F3, I prefer the Tascam, sounds more full with the right amount of everything whiles the F3 adds more highs, something am very sensitive to and easily fatigues my ears.

And besides, if I wanted more highs -I'd just take care of THAT in post with EQ or a High-Pass filter!😒

    Another very entertaining video, Marcel. I cannot really tell the two recorders apart, especially as you were not recording simultaneously, so they were not the exact same sounds. The F3 may have an edge though. Sounded crisper and more detailed. I currently enjoy the X8 as I found one with a great bargain (cheaper than the F3), and as I find it more versatile for my own needs (I don't only do field recording but all sorts of stuff with it). I was thinking about the F6, but for almost third the price, the X8, with all its limitations, will do for now.

    I have the same issues with my F3, but this looks intentional. I made a no-mic recording and put it into Audacity. I applied 50db of gain to the "empty" file and then ran an FFT on it in. The FFT showed the average noise floor was roughly -74db. There is a very distinct drop in the noise floor starting at around 60kHz. By 67kHz there is 3db drop in audio and by 80kHz the noise has dropped below -90db. Looking at the FFT it looks like Zoom has applied a low-pass filter. I tried sending a screen shot of the FFT to you on Instagram but it didn't go through.

    About the EMI/RFI at around 4:49: With the Korg CM300 and the X8 I sometimes experience similar on ports where input gain is set to "high". On inputs with "low gain" setting, I cannot hear it. Maybe your input/track 5 is set to "high gain".

    • @FreeToUseSounds

      Oh yes you need the change the gain but it also depends on what sounds you like to record. Loud sounds is no issue but the quieter is is, the harder is to get good audio. Also the self noise is higher.

The characteristics of the Sennheiser lavalier microphones indicate a 7.5 volt power supply. In the Zoom F3 recorder, +24/48 volts are supplied to the microphone. Hi Alex, thank you so much for watching. Hmm the Mic Boosters Clippies are a good start. We made a video with them inside a dummy head. Lom's Usi Pro are probably not available right now. But everything adds up if you want good wind protection. Did you watch the video about the 1000 budget? The 8022 is a wonderful microphone. Line Audio has a nice pair too.

      @@FreeToUseSounds Thanks I did watch the video about the 8022 and I was interested in that also. I'm really looking to step up from my Zoom h1 for general stereo recordings, kind of all rounder mics. What would be the advantage of the 8022 vs the clippers for example? I guess as the two capsules are extremely close in the 8022 its more limited to get a wide stereo field?
      And sorry to ask one more thing, but I also wanted a pair of pencil condensers, to use for simple recordings of live music with the F3, but also that would be useful in my studio, for recording instruments. Would you have any recommendations for this? I often see the Rode Nt5s and Oktavia Mk012s come up, would these be ones you'd choose or anything else?

      @@AlexDelfont Hi Alex, we just bought a new Earthworks Microphone. The QTC50 is a beast but they have cheaper options as well. They look amazing and sound amazing. Check them out. People love Octavia microphones and I'm sure you can't go wrong with them. The advantages are that you can get a propper wind protection for it and it's a robust microphones with a wonderful sound quality. You can record very loud sounds with it too. You can also use it for a camera or even use it with the H1n since it has its own battery supply. So you could switch between XLR or 3.5 easily. The Clippys are omnis so you get a lot of ambiences with it but you would also figure out the right spacing. So you need to purchase a spacer. Rode has one but you can find cheaper ones too. It's really up to you what you want but the 8022 is just a wonderful allrounder microphone with an XY configuration.

    • @AlexDelfont
      @AlexDelfont Год назад

      @@FreeToUseSounds Thanks very much for all the info. Yeah the 8022 and its more expensive big brother looks great, but not the most portable solution. It would be nice to have one and they are reasonably priced, but I think something like the Clippies for very portable stuff too. Do you not get something like the Clippies or Lom Usi pros but in a single sort of unit, already in xy position, similar to the built in mics on many other recorders. Or maybe this is what you meant by the spacers, I will have to look into it :)

    • @FreeToUseSounds
      @FreeToUseSounds  Год назад +2

      @@AlexDelfont Hi Alex, the clippys are omnidirectional microphones, so an XY position isn’t really something I would do with these microphones. @FreeToUseSounds  Год назад +1

      Hi Dan! Almost all DAW's can process 32 bit recordings without any extra work. I use Audition, Reaper and Ableton to process my files. Audition for basic sound effects and ambience recordings, Reaper for Ambisonic, DMS for precut and finishing in Audition. Ableton for Sound Design. Sometimes I do normalize the recordings in Audition. It's super easy. We released a video about how I'm editing sound effects etc.
