6 months was recently in poblado... got my iPhone 13 Pro Max pick pocketed leaving Lleras ... had family Fedex me a new 15 pro max.... held up in customs.... import fee was $1,000 and had to wait a month to get it released.... other than that..... I love the city.... always go out with an iPhone 8 or something I learned and have backup SIM cards. but I totally feel you on that one...
As for the reasons, they've all been touched on in the comments except for two. An 8.5 month rainy season is entirely too much. I went in July which is the lull of the rainy season. Was able to plan things so that the rain didn't ruin my trips. And was successful at it but if that's the lull of rainy season, I'd hate to see what it's like at it's worst. Second is the nightlife doesn't compare. Several of my favorite clubs on the planet are in Colombia, Panamá's night life was overall so dull
just spent 4 months in Medellin. will be back in about a month for a few more months. I'm Panamanian-American and I spent like 2-3 years of my life there in total. I prefer Medellin for three specific reasons: the weather, the prices, and the people. I love my Panamanian people, but I fear that the new influx of international financial institutions descending into Panama since the transition of power at the Canal has caused for that very cold, arms-length, distant attitude to permeate Panamanian culture. the people aren't completely unfriendly, but they're nothing like Paisas in Medellin. you can't go into an elevator in Medellin without anyone greeting you, and you can't walk out of it without everyone saying goodbye. anyone you say thank you to consistently responds with "con gusto". it's such a nice touch that I feel has been lost in a lot of other places in the world, including in Miami where I live. it's like Latino southern hospitality in a sense. I love Medellin.
Since before 1983 ' the invasion " of Panama...looking for an ex-CIA agent, around 10,000 panamenean people died for just one piece of shit called Noriega, .....Panama was , and still is ,the center of the USA intelligence and special forces for South america.... Operations " condor " 1, 2 and 3....In Colombia you will always a target gringo....In Panama no way.....
No explaining necessary. All you need to know is that you’ll find thousands of Colombians (mostly paisas from Medellin) in Panama but you’ll hardly find any Panamanians living in Medellin or any other city in Colombia. That tells you a lot about both places.
It only says, there are more job opportunities and more money in Panama.. some of us don’t really care about that, as we have money coming in from USA.
Thanks for being honest about Medellin. A lot of people have these idealized view of Medellin. I lived there for 4 years. I’ve known at least 12 people personally who have either drugged or robbed. Colombians are friendly but they are always scheming and trying to scam you. Medellin is a pretty awful place once you get past all the weekend warrior superficial stuff
Dude, most Colombians are great people who genuinely want to befriend you. As anywhere in the world, there is bad people… I was robbed in Zurich and scammed in London.
Bunch of caplords. If you was getting robbed and scammed in Europe on short stays then you have no business going to a country such as Colombia. You will be targeted.
You are 100% correct. I am born here in Medellin; we have some of the sayings popular proverbs such as “dar papaya”, “el vivo vive del bobo”, “malicia indígena”, etc. They all exemplify the culture of dishonesty here and in Colombia in general. Of course, there honest people here but there are also very unscrupulous people here and that’s why the drug trade and other illicit activities have taken a strong foothold here. It’s part of our colonial legacy. It pains me to admit this but is true.
Medellin is beautiful, but its reputation is being ruined by the "scopo girls" drugging and robbing foreigners. I prefer Panama, but I am biased as I'm a former Zonian. How much is home insurance in Panama? For example, if I buy a $1 million condo in Punta Pacifica what would the annual insurance be? Since the Pandemic started insurance rates have gone nuts up here in the U.S. A lot of insurance companies leaving many states leaving homeowners stranded.
@@TitB1199 Panama is much safer than Colombia. I think it comes down to the fact that Panamanians have more opportunity and in general make more money. People are less desperate in Panama City than in most other cities in Colombia, thus people in the city are a lot less likely to try some crazy stuff on you in the center of the city. There’s definitely some tough areas like El Chorrillo, San Miguelito, Santa Marta, Santa Librada, parts of Don Bosco and some of the surrounding area of El Casco Viejo, but for the most part the majority of the city is safe, especially in the Punta Pacifica, Punta Paitilla, San Francisco, Marbella, Parque Lefevre, Hato Pintado, Via Argentina and Brisas Del Golf neighborhoods. San Antonio and Cerro Viento are largely safe suburbs as well.
I've watched many many videos of foreigners in latin america. I feel that you guys coming from rich western countries are always looking for the perfect flawless place. Trust me the way you described Medellin is pretty much the general latin american experience. There is no 'flawless' place, moreso if you look at it from the lens of your own country. All over latin america you will find more or less the same stuff and the same issues. I believe it's more a work of acceptance more than a work of exploring. Accepting stuff as it is, without trying to make if it fit in an ideal model. I'm not saying don't search, maybe indeed there is a place waiting for you, but I do believe there is way too much expectation. Anyway my two cents as americans say, good luck.
Good view on it, instead of hating on the foreigners coming to visit. In North America, if you have had the chance to visit, things are just very different. The issue for most foreigners is they are looking at it through the lens that you talked about. And expect more. But you can't look at it that way. Medellin and any other city in Latin America are going to grow and develop as more foreigners come. Yes I hear about Gentrification, but it is happening everywhere. China and richer countries comes to Canada & the US. Canada & the US come to Latin America. Its people like us that that want to help. By identifying the problems, hopefully we can fix them. The video was never meant to come down on Medellin, but point out the issues. So hopefully Medellin can grow and develop, yes real estate gets more expensive, taxes go up, but also the government steps up to help with roads, community events etc .
10% back on your money isn't bad. If we're strictly talking about Investment vs. where your living as well. That is different. If you are in North America and looking at it as solely investment you would want higher. I did a video that talks about 12% or higher in Medellin for a reno.

Panama is safe and stable, that is a big Yes for must people
Medellin is a cool city, but: Dont be fooled. it's DEF not safe. It's just not. Esp if youre a gringo. You can get mugged in a taxi, by an unsuspecting date, or walk down the street and get your phone snatched. A lot of people are friendly, but only to get to a state where they can use you. A FEW people are genuine, but the majority aren't As far as real estate, the people of medellin are VERY anti gentrification/anti gringo esp as far as buying real estate and renting it out, causing the cost of living to be unattainable for the locals. Paisas do not like gringos and hate gringos buying up the nice neighborhoods. They literally had recent protests about it. It's very dangerous to date there. You can be drugged and kidnapped at the blink of an eye. Even Tinder flashes a warning message when you log on there about how unsafe using the app is in Medellin. It's a place to go just for fun, but you still have to be very careful while you're there. It's def more fun than Panama, but that's about it.
Good video. I am in Florida but have permanent resident visa in Panama. I agree with all your main points about Panama. It is safe. I feel safer there than som areas here in south Florida. Banking is good but sometimes I have had issues with customer service. I like how you can go short distances and be from new to old, mountain to beaches and pacific to Atlantic. I am hopeful the new government will rectify some of the problems with infrastructure that has been neglected.
I have lived in both Medellin and Panama and what you say about Medellin is very true. Great place to visit, perfect weather, Poblado is like Beverley Hill CA. But you can't trust anybody. They are there to steal from the gringos. And Colombian immigration is terrible. They are totally inconsistent and discretionary. Panama is a safer place to live. However, I strongly disagree with your comments about Panama banking. These banks are terrible, they got their ass kicked from the Panama Papers and the pendulum has swung too far. These are the worst banks in the world right now. It is difficult to open accounts (even with proper immigration paper) and they have the worst service. Costa Rica Banks are 10X better than Panama.
Thanks for the first part. Everyone has their own opinion. This was mine. Panama has a lot of options of banking and because of the Panama papers things take much longer to open. I do agree with that. But There are a lot of banks in Panama vs. Costa Rica. so there is more options. Some are quicker then others. These results aren't just mine. Business owners have been asking me about the banking in Panama. So I created a video on it. When it comes to buisness banking . Not personal. It's more reliable.

It is harder now to open an account thanks to Panama Papers. Also, banking services are first world compared to Costa Rica, common. Just look at the apps.
I spent the better part of the last two years bouncing around Colombia. Medellin is my second favorite city but the pollution really gets to me. Especially on the street level walking around. I agree with a lot of what you said. I haven’t been to Panama yet but plan to stop for a week because Copa Airlines let you stop and visit without penalty. Pretty neat offer. I’m from the southern US so I love the cooler weather and mountains of Colombia. Manizales is my personal favorite but Medellin is right behind it. Thanks for the post.
In August 2024, I spent several weeks in Panama City, Panama, wearing long pants and all. I wanted to minimize my appearance as a gringo. I speak some Spanish, which helps me get around, but I still need some work. I plan on returning in July 2025. I aim to live in areas away from many Canadian and American expats. The biggest complaint I've read on some vlogs people had is that no one spoke English. I find that laughable. We're visitors to their country. I think learning Spanish and local customs is imperative to enjoy your stay.
Having lived here in Medellin for ten years, the best way I can describe it, is that Colombian food is like the Bob Evans or Cracker Barrel of the Latin community. It's like "home cooked" type of stuff. It's not super colorful like Cuban food or huge explosions of flavor like Mexican good... but what Colombian food is like, is really good at it. Kind of like how you Don't go to Bob Evans for exquisite cuisine like French or things of that nature... you go to Bob Evans for what they have there. And what they have there is good.
I got through my first "honeymoon" year in Medellín without serious incident (ironically, when I was the least cautious), but I guess as a result I let my guard down and in the three years since have had two home invasion burglaries (while sleeping in bed in my bedroom), a stolen bike when the lock was cut, and an iPhone pick-pocketed on the metro. My personal view regarding safety is it's not a matter of "if" but rather "when" you will become a victim, and I don't do anything here now without first considering the security implications. Much less going out at night for starters, as well as limiting who gets into my apartment. You can make it work here, but you've got to roll with the punches and never forget you can be a likely target.
Appreciate the video comparing the two Countries. I've had brief visits in Medellin and Panama City. Loved Medellin (people, culture) and I could tell, just like other major cities in the world there are good and not so good parts. Panama City - I want to go back and spend some time there. Both are beautiful ciites. Thanks for sharing.
"Cancilleria" (Colombia's State Department and also Visa authorities) is a TOTAL DISASTER in Colombia. I got denied my digital nomad visa after 9 years LEGALLY in Colombia and TWO previous NOMAD visas approved. Also left Colombia for good.
I'm from Colombia and I love my country and people are generally very warm and social. Colombians are known for great hospitality and a very cheerful and inclusive vibe. However it is very unfortunate that in our culture we are always trying to take advantage of any situation where there is monetary exchange involved. It's shameful that you had to experience that 1st hand but it is the unfortunate truth.
I love Colombia and the people are amazing. Not all. But most. I just hope that this experience brings light to what not to do when others visit. Thank you for your comment!
Panama is one of those destinations where a lot of people go, but not many stay, most end up leaving. Personally, I prefer Medellin a million times more than Panama, which is boring, and the visas for residency are now expensive.
I keep hearing Panama City is boring, but nobody can tell me what makes Medellin so exciting that can't be done in Panama City. So please tell me here, what can you do in Medellin that you can't do in Panama City? Is it the street girls soliciting on every corner? Because if that's what it is, then yes, Medellin is more exciting than Panama City. But is there anything else? I can't think of anything that would make Medellin more exciting than Panama City. Nothing.
@guillermogouldburn763 Don't you think that life in Medellin is more exciting than in Panama? A lot of people leave Panama, and in general, it's a country with very low tourism, and that's only because of the canal, but other than that, there isn't that much to do. I like Cartagena much better than Panama City. But I'm sure there are Expats that are happy living in Panama, mainly elderly retirees. Medellin is more suited for younger people, and I'm not just saying that because of the Medellin ladies.
@@p.c.h.6721 yes of course. I explained Medellin has more to do. It’s also 5x the size. So it’s expected. But with the size comes other issues as well.
@@guillermogouldburn763best way to explain this, things are just cheaper. It’s also more targeted towards under 35’s. Loads of nightlife etc. at a fraction of the cost of Panama.
I' ve been in both places but my experience in Panama city was horrible vs Medellin for me was a paradise, everyone has different experiences and has diffferent perceptions of everything.
your experience in Medellin is very similar to my own. i like the the heat of Panama. also, the driving in Panama is much easier and has great golf, fishing and snorkeling.
Left Panama for Medellin for all the reasons you mentioned. Nevermind the fact I got pickpocketed in Panama and screwed on real estate, life is just so much better in Medellin. I’ll put up with the little extra nonsense.
That Visa application resonates perfectly with me. I applied last year for a student visa. Had everything in order. Got denied. This year I tried the digital nomad visa. Got Denied again. Both times the immigration didnt want to tell me why. 2k$ wasted.
Used = stolen unless you buy it from the previous owner. Man call your bank and do a chargeback on your first ticket purchase!! There's too much real estate inventory in Panama City so it isn't the best investment...
Lol. There is a lot of places where the previous owner sells to these places in Medellin. Including this place. Even Tigo (cell phone provider) said that, it's hard to know. Marketplace on Facebook isn't trusted there. So these places have security out front and make more sense.
Been to both places. Prefer Medellin for almost everything but I can see why the city rubbed you the wrong way. You can't beat the weather, nature/hiking in Antioquia and people. You do have to keep your head on swivel in some locations but I felt the same in BA/Rio/other Latin American cities. Hope you enjoy Panama!
I lived on Av Balboa for over a year and went to all the festivals and concerts, and I’d keep my hands in my pockets because that’s where I’d keep my wallet and phone. There were multiple occasions where people would reach into my pockets and I’d smack their hand out. Lots of youngsters that want to make a quick buck no matter where you are.
High heat and humidity, hilly areas (except for Laureles apparently) and air pollution in Medellin are non-starters for lots of us, maybe not as bad as Panama City, but not as good as Pereira or Cuenca Ecuador....
@@tooneov If you go inland you can find those prices. It may be a fixer upper in the city (Obarrio, El Congrejo), or brand new on the beach (Playa Caracol)
@@albrinks4017 i mean depends on the kind of shorts, if it was cargo shorts with normal tshirt , then of course not, but usually u can get in with a nice (think european yaht /boat type shorts) and collared shirt, or top...
LA is hard, lots of slow people, and as soon they see foreigners they think we are millionaires. On-time or in-time doesn't exist. It is great for vacation but you can get anything done quickly, making it hard to develop their economy and make people richer in LA. Sad but some midset need to slowly change. People are kind and work hard but not smart yet. So it makes LA less competitive vs SE Asia and the Middle East. It is great for retiring but if you are an entrepreneur who wants to level up people good luck. BUt hey this is why the world Is big right. You have everything for everyone.
The only time I've suffered from card scam was in Miami. I used an ATM there and bam, they started using my card. Thankfully the bank refunded. But I guess, it depends on each person, and what they have in their mind...I know it sounds woo-woo but it's true
Compared to Cartagena and Cali, Medellín is far cleaner with much safer on the ankles sidewalks. Try Laureles with its beautiful tiled sidewalks. What is the same are the crazy drivers who love to speed regardless of the street, and how stop (Pare) signs and red lights are merely suggestions. Look both ways twice then run! 👀
To all foreigners who, for some reason, have too many complaints about Medellín and its people, I would like to remind you that Medellín is a very large city of more than 5 million inhabitants and that, like in any other city, there are obviously going to be people who are going to want to scam you, as well as if, as a Colombian, I will surely go to one of their countries and in their tourist parts they will to want to scam too 😂
It's people are awesome. I said that right at the beginning. No complaints there. I loved it there, but tried everything to stay. It didn't allow me to.
You need to know what not to do in medellin and you will be fine. Of course there will never be ocean in medellin but in return you getting almost perfect weather all year around. When medellin will be as safe as wealthy suburbs in USA cost of living will go up dramatically. So it's a tradeoff. You can't get it all.
haha, too funny. cracks me up. falling through hole in side walk. oh yeah. definitely.. i'm from and live in PTY, and it's so true. You have to have a sense of humor to live here.
“No dar papaya” is a Colombian term meaning something like “take your precautions or don’t be naive”. Look it up. You “gave papaya” by walking into a concert with your phone in your pocket. It’s obvious for Colombians, not so for foreigners. Sorry about loosing your phone.
Migrants coming into the US displaces locals and burdens social services. Is that a concern too? Just wondering if we care about displaced Americans as well
I couldnt recommend Colombia (any city), Never invest in any real state there , its a disaster , banks lawyers etc. Colombia is not a safe country, any where! thieves, scammers...and the good expensive areas are the worse.
You can overcome all the cons with only one exception. You really left Medellin because you couldn't obtain a residence permit. You are not alone. Idon't like Panama, but I agree on the reliable banking. That is the reason my only bind with Panama is my bank account.
In Colombia we have "Súper intendencia de industria y comercio" and if they sold you 2 times the tickets like that...one email is all you need for a full refund... And is probable you don't even need to send the email because once you mention that name they will be like: "hey! hold on. Here is you full refund". Also you mention you like panama Banks over Colombia, but did you know that the best banks of panama are Colombians? 👀 Just saying.
Trust me I tried many times. I'm not about to just let things go. Stub Hub said purchased. I disputed it, but the Credit card company said the event has already passed. I talked to my lawyer about it as well. I will never use stub hub again, anywhere.
Having $1000 phone in medellin is not smart, buying any phone in medellin is not smart either. Have cheap phone and another cheap phone as a backup. Dont show people your wealth, you making yourself a target.
I agree to not show people your wealth in Medellin. But I shoot real Estate videos for a living and the Vertical videos I shoot with need a camera like the Iphone 13. I'm not just a tourist. It's a company expense.
I can tell your a newbie. I lived there 7 years, you have much more to think about than a cell phone or a scolpomine jobs. A lot of the newbies over there aren't familiar with the real crimes that go down. Home invasions are freaky and usually get newbies to leave quickly, so many inside jobs. Like for example someone close to you told a familiy member or friend about you and suddenly you become a target. Leave to visit another country and your home unattended and watch how fast its all gone. taxistas working with criminals to empty your cards at atms and on and on. That plus all the constant lies and disrepect. I understand, its awesome. I loved it most of the time, but eventually the true beast gets to you. Very few stay longer than 6 years.
Living in Latin America is different. Security is for me the biggest issue. There are pluses and minuses. Comically your comment about wearing shorts reminds me of my Latin spouse always telling me he can spot gringos by their wearing shorts. I say, who cares. Wear what you want. I speak better Spanish and know the grammar, history and literature better than 99% of the locals. But I’m Lilly white and can’t pass for a Latino. So what. Enjoy. Funny thing is we visited Dublin a couple of years back and someone actually stopped me on the street to ask for directions! HA. I loved it. It would never happen in CDMX
Awesome comment. I do agree with security, and security goes so many different ways. Loved your comment about being lilly white and cant pass for latino. Thanks for that, it was good.
Medellin...No thanks. Risk of Scopolamine druggings and getting robbed Your much better off in Florianopolis in Brazil. Beautiful and safer and you got Balneario cambriu an hour away.
You know, it always baffles me a little bit when american inmigrants talk about latin american countries and they talk about it from the perspective of rich white people. Some of those incidents could've been avoided if you really integrate into the culture. I'm a foreigner too. I'm from Venezuela and I made it a point not to befriend people from Venezuela. I only wanted to befriend Colombian people and learn about the culture. But a lot of american inmigrants don't ever bother to learn the language and they live in this bubble of Poblado or Laureles. And they think they have a compresive grasp of life in the city. It's kind of ironical when you have people in the US saying that if you're going to live there you have to speak american. Of course, the people saying that are not the ones traveling around the world. So wherever you go, you have to make the effort to integrate by learning the language, befriending people from the culture. Getting out of the touristic zones. I have an american friend who wanted to live in the real Medellin and he went and move from Poblado to Manrique. Kudos to him. LOL. No place is 100% safe. In the US you have gun violence and school shootings. Getting a tourist visa is VERY hard, let alone a work visa. So it's supposed to be hard for us and easy for you guys?
First I'm not American. The goal of this video isn't to bash Medellin. It's to inform people so they can make their own decisions. Stop thinking like Generic north americans are bashing Medellin. A lot of people love it there. Including me. I take Spanish classes everyday. Finally, I'm Canadian, and yes I know a lot of Colombians in my former city.
I speak fluent spanish, have many colombian friends and a Venezuelan girlfriend and I still have been robbed in broad daylight, at gunpoint, in Poblado. Medellin is dangerous, that's the bottom line. Just look at the crime statistics. Colombia is the most dangerous country in the world murder per capita. Numbers don't lie. On another note, I think even "rich white americans" that you singled out would agree, if you are contributing to the economy in the US then the USA welcomes you with open arms. Nothing to do with race. You are making it about race.
Well they are other cities in Colombia like Armenia , Pereira , Manizalez Barranquilla , Sta Marta where live is less stressfull and people is also very nice ; they have to eliminate the social stratus 1 to 6 , this cause discrimination to the Colombians , living like that is not healthy , creates many social problems !! ; also they have to lower the prices on rentals and the sales of properties and also lower the prices for food , and this way , they can incresae the tourism and Colombians will be able to afford the economy that tourist people bringt to the country , base on the low salaries they have , I don't think Colombians can't afford to paid 5'000.000 or 6'000.000 pesos a month for rent ??? ; securiry will be always an issue in Colombia !!!, no rolex or Iphones on the streets my friends !!!!, the best of this country the people and the friendly company , and new friends !!!
Yeah I love the colombian people. Don't doubt that at all. My personal experiences that happened in Colombia are just to raise awareness that is can happen. Not to scare people off. I'm still friends with a lot of Colombians.
Thank you for leaving Medellín. We need more guys with the same idea. We use to live in a better place before all of you came here. Because of foreigners, living cost, prostitution and drugs consumption become ours biggest problems. I hope all of you find the paradise that you are looking for, but also I know that it will become the jungle after you passed out. Good luck on your future homes.
mate. chill out+you sound like you have never been travelling in latam. panama is nuts, prices same like US. what is the purpose to move there. funny video
I am not into so much Panamá, It is a small country and also there are some spots in the capital that are unsafe for locals so you have to be vigilant as well there, my cousin aware me about the robbers in Panamá but I think it can be safer in tourist places. Not so much places or cities to visit. Panamá does not have beachs as Colombia, if you want to go to the beachs the only way to go there is by boat to the island near by to coast.
I don't agree. 45 Minutes from the city is Playa Caracol or the other way Puerto Escondido. The beaches in Panama are a lot like Costa Rica. Some of my up and coming videos will show that as I do more comparisons.
A lot of these things are self-inflicted. Just buy a new iPhone. If you just buy a new phone you wouldn't have to deal with the potential of a stolen phone. Matter a fact buy two phones. You should have a burner phone that you carry with you, especially when you're in crowds so you don't have to get your iPhone stolen in the first place. Why did this guy have his passport on him at a concert? This is not Theory to me, this is how I move as I live overseas in Brazil. The point is this the more planning you put into how you move the safer you'll be and the less hassle you'll have to put up with. My recommendation is just don't live in Medellin. In other words don't live in a place where the locals don't want you there. Where they think you're gentrifying the area. I left America because I didn't want to feel like I was living behind enemy lines. That's literally the same thing you're doing in Medellin. I'm not even going to mention druggings. Also, the temperature is a preference usually of our pailer skinned brethren. 30 and up sounds amazing. I'll leave Brazil when it gets to be in the twenties because it's getting too cold.
thank you for your valid points, buying new for nomads isn't always the case. They look for deals etc. Buying new in North America, yes. Medellin is a price hike. So I bought used. Not all locals don't want you there. As the world turns and I mentioned above. Gentrification is happening everywhere, it's not just Colombia. In North America iChina and some of the richer countries have made real estate unattainable. I'm originally from Vancouver, and there are a lot more rules in place. So because of this North Americans move south. Also because of this, the cities people move to get to be more developed. As taxes go up, and the govenment makes more. Which means better roads, community centers and things to do.
@@Bruce_Quin Depends on what type of women you like. Simple as that. Just s an example, If you like Asian women, you'll find a lot more of that in Panama City. Same goes for Afro Latina women. Medellin is more of a one flavor city when it comes to women. Panama City is a real melting pot.
Yes, it is true that in Colombia there is a great problem regarding insecurity, but it has been noted that many foreigners overexpose themselves to very dangerous situations for no reason, without thinking, believing that they are in their countries or in a magical land where no one is going to harm them And that cannot be like that either. Finally, I would like to remind all of you that all these digital nomads have done more damage to the city of Medellín than a benefit, so if you have such a dire opinion of my city I invite you to go to Panama City, like the canal partner did...
Yes I agree. I was bringing value, as I hired 3 colombians to help me and help agencies grow to increase Colombians wages. I totally agree with some only damage the reputation. Others try to help.
Did you miss the rest of the video? I applied for residency, lawyer and fees gone. $1200. It was a series of things that happened. So I made the decision to leave. But I’ve been back since. Just not to live.

I’m from Colombia, I haven’t lived there in 24 years but still have family there and it truly baffles me why people are so trusty of Colombians. Like, just don’t. Don’t trust Colombians. It’s sad to say but it’s true. If anyone tells you that Colombia is not dangerous, they’re lying. Yes, people are nice, women are pretty (I’m a woman) Santa Marta has gorgeous beaches, Medellin has the perfect weather, real state is cheaper than the US but, it is dangerous and Colombians are caniving as heck. Where in Panama? Are you comparing apples to apples? If you are comparing Medellín to Panama City, Medellín wins in all categories. Panama City is like living in Miami cost-wise.

Not going to lie the reason to leave was dumb…… all that can happen in any country. If you would have reasons like “the inflation is higher, the government change policies and etc” that. This guy is spot on about Medellin
Thank you 🎉
6 months was recently in poblado... got my iPhone 13 Pro Max pick pocketed leaving Lleras ... had family Fedex me a new 15 pro max.... held up in customs.... import fee was $1,000 and had to wait a month to get it released.... other than that..... I love the city.... always go out with an iPhone 8 or something I learned and have backup SIM cards. but I totally feel you on that one...
I just spent 9 days in Panama. I loved it. But don't think I'll be back for a long time. Colombia still has my heart
I do really enjoy Colombia, just not for living. (for me)
Yeah i agree. Panama's nightlife is no where near Medellin's.
just spent 4 months in Medellin. will be back in about a month for a few more months.
@@ea11111 yeah I agree the people as I mentioned are super friendly. Each city has its benefits.
I am Panamanian and Paisas are so friendly that they can rob you and kill you with a smile, even Pablo Escobar was a gentleman.
But we don’t like you
@@wilimliao1666 total. Son gente muy culta y respetuosa. Es muy evidente que viene de la educación que les dan en casa. Me encanta.
No explaining necessary. All you need to know is that you’ll find thousands of Colombians (mostly paisas from Medellin) in Panama but you’ll hardly find any Panamanians living in Medellin or any other city in Colombia.
That tells you a lot about both places.
yes it does. Thank you.
It only says, there are more job opportunities and more money in Panama.. some of us don’t really care about that, as we have money coming in from USA.
Been here in Medellin for 10 years now... not going to lie, while I love living here, there are some things that just cheesegrate my soul.
yeah I bet.
jejeje.... mi amor Medellin. I miss Medellin. I want to move there. Lived there 6 months recently... And will be going there for my next getaway 110%
Your welcome. I always believe that if you put yourself in certain situations what do you expect. It's the same anywhere.
Dude, most Colombians are great people who genuinely want to befriend you. As anywhere in the world, there is bad people… I was robbed in Zurich and scammed in London.
@@MrAskaric me same i got robbed in spain
Bunch of caplords. If you was getting robbed and scammed in Europe on short stays then you have no business going to a country such as Colombia. You will be targeted.
@@MrAskaric yeah that happens anywhere
You are 100% correct. I am born here in Medellin; we have some of the sayings popular proverbs such as “dar papaya”, “el vivo vive del bobo”, “malicia indígena”, etc. They all exemplify the culture of dishonesty here and in Colombia in general. Of course, there honest people here but there are also very unscrupulous people here and that’s why the drug trade and other illicit activities have taken a strong foothold here. It’s part of our colonial legacy. It pains me to admit this but is true.
wow thanks for being honest. Much appreciated.
😊
Medellin is beautiful, but its reputation is being ruined by the "scopo girls" drugging and robbing foreigners. I prefer Panama, but I am biased as I'm a former Zonian. How much is home insurance in Panama? For example, if I buy a $1 million condo in Punta Pacifica what would the annual insurance be? Since the Pandemic started insurance rates have gone nuts up here in the U.S. A lot of insurance companies leaving many states leaving homeowners stranded.
I'll work on some content for you, as I want to do videos on topics that agents may not do or may be too controversial. Where is the US are you?
Also poverty and high murder rates. Some of us are concerned with safety.
Son tetas no hay paraíso...they do it to their own as well. Read a liitle
You dumarse Americans create your own danger in Medellin
Panamá is underrated af
100%
Yes agreed 🎉
Yessss!
Everyone I know who went to Medellin has left. SO many stories about robbery and worse, and in DN/expat areas.
It does happen, but it happens in a lot of places now
Please, 10% on investment in medellin is not a good profit. There is too much risk.
10% back on your money isn't bad. If we're strictly talking about Investment vs. where your living as well. That is different. If you are in North America and looking at it as solely investment you would want higher.
I did a video that talks about 12% or higher in Medellin for a reno.
Panama is safe and stable, that is a big Yes for must people
Yes exactly.
Medellin is a cool city, but:
Dont be fooled. it's DEF not safe. It's just not. Esp if youre a gringo. You can get mugged in a taxi, by an unsuspecting date, or walk down the street and get your phone snatched.
A lot of people are friendly, but only to get to a state where they can use you. A FEW people are genuine, but the majority aren't
As far as real estate, the people of medellin are VERY anti gentrification/anti gringo esp as far as buying real estate and renting it out, causing the cost of living to be unattainable for the locals.
Well said
Well said! Yes I agree and being hopeful for the new government.
Great video. Enjoyed it. Excellent info.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I also love the mountains of Colombia, didn't notice much of the pollution but now that you say it, I did notice it more when I was flying in.
I live in Medellin, but yea, Manizales is pretty cool. Especially... what was that, Milan?
@@AnthonySforza that side of the city is nice but my fav is the west side near Chipre. The sunsets are the most beautiful I’ve ever seen.

Yea? I'll have to check that out the next time I'm there.
Manizales it's also my top. ❤
I think learning Spanish and local customs is imperative to enjoy your stay.
yes learning spanish is good. We're in latin America after all. They appreciate you at least trying.
How is the food in colombia? Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables?
There is lots of fresh food and vegtables in both places.
@@AnthonySforza great explanation
@@AnthonySforzataste buds definitely exploded on mexican food. Guatemalan food didnt come close, taste buds hardly sizzled
You can make it work here, but you've got to roll with the punches and never forget you can be a likely target.
oh geez, I'm sorry to hear that. It's definitely on your mind when you go out.
Why stay there then?
Appreciate the video comparing the two Countries. I've had brief visits in Medellin and Panama City. Loved Medellin (people, culture) and I could tell, just like other major cities in the world there are good and not so good parts. Panama City - I want to go back and spend some time there. Both are beautiful ciites. Thanks for sharing.
no thank you for touching base. If you need anything else let me know.

"Cancilleria" (Colombia's State Department and also Visa authorities) is a TOTAL DISASTER in Colombia. I got denied my digital nomad visa after 9 years LEGALLY in Colombia and TWO previous NOMAD visas approved. Also left Colombia for good.
Sounds familiar.
If it was more reliable and my visa went through things would be different. But it wasn't at that time.
Nothing.
@guillermogouldburn763
Don't you think that life in Medellin is more exciting than in Panama? A lot of people leave Panama, and in general, it's a country with very low tourism, and that's only because of the canal, but other than that, there isn't that much to do. I like Cartagena much better than Panama City.
But I'm sure there are Expats that are happy living in Panama, mainly elderly retirees. Medellin is more suited for younger people, and I'm not just saying that because of the Medellin ladies.
@@p.c.h.6721 yes of course. I explained Medellin has more to do. It’s also 5x the size. So it’s expected. But with the size comes other issues as well.

I don't know about everyone. lol But thanks.
Left Panama for Medellin for all the reasons you mentioned. Nevermind the fact I got pickpocketed in Panama and screwed on real estate, life is just so much better in Medellin. I’ll put up with the little extra nonsense.
That happens anywhere, Medellin, Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico, even North America dependant on your views.
That Visa application resonates perfectly with me. I applied last year for a student visa. Had everything in order. Got denied. This year I tried the digital nomad visa. Got Denied again. Both times the immigration didnt want to tell me why. 2k$ wasted.
yeah it's a joke. No reason at all.

Zero stolen phones in Panama lol
Come to see the Norte de Bogotá
It's beautiful!
Panama is better buy you need way more $$$
you do need more $
Thank you for leaving Medellín.
You mean because of tourism, The roads, streets, transportation and the small business owners are striving because of it. right?
you went from a Super cheap place to a Super expensive place hahajaja
And only 1 Hour flight away. Which People want to know.
mate. chill out+you sound like you have never been travelling in latam. panama is nuts, prices same like US. what is the purpose to move there. funny video
ahhh I'm pretty chill. lol. Glad you enjoyed it?!?
I am not into so much Panamá, It is a small country and also there are some spots in the capital that are unsafe for locals so you have to be vigilant as well there, my cousin aware me about the robbers in Panamá but I think it can be safer in tourist places. Not so much places or cities to visit. Panamá does not have beachs as Colombia, if you want to go to the beachs the only way to go there is by boat to the island near by to coast.
I don't agree. 45 Minutes from the city is Playa Caracol or the other way Puerto Escondido. The beaches in Panama are a lot like Costa Rica. Some of my up and coming videos will show that as I do more comparisons.
dude... Colon, Guna yala, Azuero, Bocas etc etc.. Panamá is a Surf paradise so it does not make sense what you're saying 😊
Thanks for leaving my country!
Your very welcome, I come back frequently.
I'm gonna cut to the chase, and go straight to the point here ☝🏻.
Does Panama have high ratios of beautiful women with 🍑?
You'll just have to visit and see for yourself.
There’s no way it’s better than MDE
You’ll like Mexico City much better than Medellin or Panama
I do enjoy Mexico City. I have spent some time there.
You left medellin because you had a bad experience at a concert?
Did you miss the rest of the video?
I applied for residency, lawyer and fees gone. $1200. It was a series of things that happened.
So I made the decision to leave. But I’ve been back since. Just not to live.
@@living_in_latam oh that sucks. not a great sign for my airbnb investments not allowing folks like you to stay, I've heard this happening with regulariyt since April of this year
Medellin sidewalks are horrendous.
where?
Oh tell me about it... snapped my ankles more than a few times.
@@AnthonySforza lol gotta look down more often then not.
Just beware, you e been warned 🤷🏻♀️
Thank you for being honest.
Yes thank you for being honest.
Where in Panama? Are you comparing apples to apples? If you are comparing Medellín to Panama City, Medellín wins in all categories. Panama City is like living in Miami cost-wise.
if we are comparing costs then Medellin wins, because of the USD. But its safety, and other factors that come into play as well
So he left because they didn’t honor his ticket at the concert?? lol
huh? I think you missed most of the story.
Medellin will make you question who you can trust bottom line. If you didn't get that, there it is. Scams and thieves everywhere
ugh dude you have no idea wht you talking about...60$ for a 5 star restaurant? what are you talking about? ...please people do not listen to this man.... 8 months on and off n he thinks he an expert. obviously you didnt go anywhere near a 5 star restaurant bc even at Niku a high end sushi place youre spending easily 120-150..and thats still not top end place.
I created this video for a local real estate agency in Medellin. When I went to Carmen it cost me $60 last year.

Not supposed to be wearing shorts in medellin. Another American lost boy.
I'm not American, but thanks. The elders in Colombia suggest trousers. Always listen to your elders.
Not going to lie the reason to leave was dumb…… all that can happen in any country. If you would have reasons like “the inflation is higher, the government change policies and etc” that. Like valid reasons. I just wasted 10 minutes of my life watching this that I will never get back 🤦🏻♂️ sorry for been honest
Thats your opinion. Thanks. But if you lost $1200 and tried and tried for a visa, had done some business deals that went side ways. Would you cut your losses or keep trying? I tried 5 times. Left it at that.
Your welcome for 5 mins of my life answering your comment.
dizq panama xd
thanks
@living_in_latam its funny to choose Panamá instead of north of Bogotá, but ok
Medellin didn’t have enough ladyboys for him…. Hey gurl 💅💅
lol. I think ladyboy's are in Thailand, different continent.
The "working girls" in Panama, go figure, are from colombia most of the time.
This guy knows nothing, Mexico's the place to be.
I actually spend a lot of time in Mexico. Check my channel: ruclips.net/p/PLV4ExGqTCh5Nnuj9USkLHZ0h49Sm08ypm&si=hY_nF_AOf7bEIs7j
México is good but the peso value is too strong, prices almost doubled on rents and other things
@@albrinks4017 yeah it's happening everywhere
