  • This video is a detailed walkthrough, demo and review of ToyBox Audio’s FM Zone. I go into many aspects which are not included in the manual, at least not at the time of release. FM Zone is an excellent ‘boutique’ FM synth for desktop and iPad, an runs both as a plugin and standalone. I really like it, and think it will appeal both to FM experts and people who don’t know much about FM or even subtractive synthesis. It is very accessible but you can also go super deep if you want to. It’s also very reasonably priced. It is based on 4-operator FM, but allows for use of lots of different waveforms so you can incorporate elements of physical modeling, ring mod, AM, additive synthesis and more. The envelopes combined with looping options for envelopes allow for mad sound design possibilities. It also has a massive collection of great sounding filter types. Links etc can be found below. Enjoy!

    FM Zone is an easy-to-use polyphonic synthesiser plugin with sophisticated FM and sample engines and a bank of flexible multi-segment envelopes to shape the sound in any direction you desire. Perfect for huge FM basses and cutting leads
    The synthesiser features two powerful engines that can be layered together for a variety of complex sounds and textures. The ‘Synth’ engine features a powerful FM engine with a variety of 'special' operator types (FM, supersaw, additive, physical modelling etc) for expressive, harmonically-rich timbres. The ‘Sample’ engine can be used to mix additional textures or attacks samples over the sound.

    Watching with ads! Appreciating this new addition to the Toybox line. Personally, we like the Creamsicle orange color, but we can see where to others it's a bit eugh. Also, is this the return of the deep dive? (; Excellent work as always Gav!

    Great sounds, very complex yet accessible! I accidentally discovered in Buzz Zone that you can also randomize the envelopes when you tap on the name to the left of the die. Hope they add that to the manual. And as you said there’s literally room for more options. ;) Anyway, another great synth and video! Thanks to you and Toybox Audio!

    Hey Gav‘ thanks for bringing this to our minds! so what kind of heard so far - it really has great sound (this is what my Toybox-knowledge also states) and relatively offers easy handling (especially for FM-synthesis).
    Thanks again and I swear - I try to use Patreon more often, as your Patreon Place is great 👍🏻🫶

    As I mentioned on Doug's livestream video for this, it would be really helpful if we had tick marks on that Bezier line/curve interface. There's no quick way to determine what is the length of the sound or where the beats fall on the measure. Perhaps David can add that in future updates. It would be really helpful.

    • @GavinskisTutorials
      @GavinskisTutorials  9 дней назад +1

      It has an ‘enable snapping’ option in the envelopes dropdown arrow section. I demo that in the video. When selected, when you press on the envelopes, you see the quantisation, and dots will auto snap to divisions

    It is a nice synth, I own it now, but the big minus is: only 5 notes polyphony. When playing piano-like stuff that is way to short, when using sustain pedal.I hope it will be upgraded.

    • @GavinskisTutorials
      @GavinskisTutorials  6 дней назад

      Yes, definitely a pity. I suppose devs are wary of bad reviews, but for sure there could be an option for more polyphony

      Yes, it's heavy for sure and not sure it can be optimized more, it's just a heavy synth. Only being able to have one instance sounds really low mind you. What's your buffer size?
