Thank you for bringing us into your home to meet your family...and also to help us understand something about life in Calabria. We only went a few times to Italy...but we stayed for a month each time. We always loved the food. It is so much better than the Italian-American foods I still liked well enough. I had a loyal friend whose family was Calabresi. I worked for an Italian-American Senator and ate the food his Italian-American family grew up with. We also ate at least once each week at our local Italian-American Community Center. I believe the biggest difference in quality was that the markets we visited in various parts of Italy had the very freshest local produce. Unless we were able to shop in the Italian neighborhoods in South Philadelphia or in New York City, that quality, freshness, and selection were not possible to purchase. I made gnocchi for my family...and I have never seen a more pleasing dish than the one your family made. I believe the wooden tool you used to make the grooves works much better than the back of the tines on a dinner fork.

Irene!! This is only the second video I have watched of yours and already you are my favourite number 1 youtuber! I love Calabria, I visit Calabria (VV). I learnt so much from this video thanks to your mama's cooking! I have soooo many questions. 1) Was that two different types of cheese in the Lasagna? Now I know I need the little wooden 'thing' to make the lines on the gnochi and what angle to hold it - so thank you. Is it easy to make gluten-free Gnocchi? When you go to a restaurant how do you ask for a small jug of local wine when it isn't on the Menu? Why did you get on a plane? Do you work in the North or in another country? Your English is perfect, so congratulations. I like that I can understand what you and your parents are saying in the background. (I learnt basic Italian from a Calabrian). Your comment made me so happy! Hope I will answer everything ❤ 1. Yes, my mum likes to put a lot of chees. I can ask her what she put exactly but usually is parmigiano and another soft cheese. 2. You can make gluten free gnocchi by changing the flour, yes, but never tried so I cannot tell you if they will taste the same. 3. This lifestyle is a diet trend in the US. We read that Mediterranean people live the longest, because of their diet. As well as how you eat, together with family. Very fresh food, and lots of fish. But you guys really know how to enjoy life.
And if you guys abroad are wondering if this is normal for us in Italy, the answer is 'SI'. We prioritise healthy and quality time over anything else because life is only one 🙂
I loved this video! I love learning about different cultures. I love how everything is so fresh & plentiful. I want travel to Italy one day. But I’m afraid, because I don’t know the language & don’t know how I’ll be received as a Black American. That’s sounds ignorant for me to say. But I really want to go
Your film evokes nostalgia in me for the days of my childhood. It reminds me of my country, Poland, as it was 30 years ago before we were seduced by the capitalism and consumerism. Back then, everything was better. We had similar markets where you could find: high-quality vegetables, fruits, fish, and handicrafts. Every Sunday, we would go to such markets to buy food. Shopping was different too. Food wasn't wrapped in plastic and foil. You bought things in pieces, wrapped them in paper, and carried them home in a fabric bag. Every item, whether a pot, clothing, or furniture, was made to last for years... Everything was ecological, local and dgood quality. Your film moved me :-). We also used to cook everything ourselves; our cuisine has many dumplings and flour-based products too :-). We used to go the forest to pick up mushrooms too :-) (it was like a family sport). It's beautiful that you preserve these traditional values and resist the mediocrity offered by Western and American culture. I wish I could live in Italy
What is the white sauce in the lasagna? Potato puree? sour cream? Looks interesting. I hope when my wife and I move into our house in Italy we have neighbors like your family. They all seem so nice. You father getting so excited about SICILY! Wow great stuff. Bless you all

Cooking with you and your mom was great! Very authentic and traditional! BRAVA ! When are you coming to Sicily?
What an amazing family and culture! Please keep sharing
Please keep such vidoes coming it was so breathtakingly beautiful. I was so sad when the video ended :(
And if you guys abroad are wondering if this is normal for us in Italy, the answer is 'SI'.
We prioritise healthy and quality time over anything else because life is only one 🙂
Excellent vidéo. Shows real life in South Italy. Very enjoyable.
I loved this video! I love learning about different cultures. I love how everything is so fresh & plentiful. I want travel to Italy one day. But I’m afraid, because I don’t know the language & don’t know how I’ll be received as a Black American. That’s sounds ignorant for me to say. But I really want to go
Come with me when I will organize a trip and you will feel at home ❤️
Beautiful video, wonderfully shot, nicely edited, and a beautiful, beautiful, star of the video! Grazie mille!
Bellissimo video, Grazie. Viva la Calabria ❤
I want to be Italian. Definitely absolutely.
