ABOUT: 🔻
Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band from Kitee. The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and former lead singer Tarja Turunen.
Netta Skog is Finnish accordion player who was born in 1990. She started to play accordion when she was only 5 years old and she's done a lot of many kind of musical projects during these years.

Yesterwynde os a madeup word. Tuomas wanted something to describe, but felt there was not an adequate word, so he asked Troy and they decided they needed a new word. Troy suggested Yesterwynde. Tuomas loved it. Well done, you two!!

I understand on underwater scenes what was CGI was the anglerfish, swimming skeleton and the fish pool wrapping around the diver.
Everything else was real.

I used to work in Berkhampstead, just around the corner from Tring. Look upwards from Amersham then it is slightly to the left. I never stopped in Tring but I drove through it and all I remember is blink and you will miss it because it was only a few houses big 🤣

Not sure if you're aware, but albums 8, 9, and 10, are a trilogy of the series of nature, life, and evolution.
Your father is wearing the first part, and Human Nature was the 2nd.

Maybe you noticed that Floor was diving into the book On The Origin Of Species by Charles Darwin....
My favourite shot at 11:48 where Einstein (on a chess board) turnes into an ape, and I thought the bust next to him is Tuomas, but not sure....
The scenes with the divers are real, but mixed with some nice effects...
The diver (or at least one) is famous French free diver Guillaume Néry, not a stuntman but real registration of his diving (apart from the added creatures).

That was Floor taking the high dive into "On the Origin of Species". Interesting tidbit is that Tarja Turunen is one of five songwriters credited.
Also, I think Dashy is a born naturalist: that grin when the spider drops is a dead giveaway.

Great reaction! We know Nightwish, their mastery in anything they do; everything they do has a purpose case in point Floor’s vocals “blending in”! We love Nightwish like no other, so we should NOT BE SURPRISED, but I for one was absolutely floored, mind blown into millions of pieces 🤯, again! After consuming daily fast food music, Nightwish takes us to the fanciest restaurant serving an unmatched 12-course experience - cannot wait for September 💙 I am closing on 70 and IMHO there has never been, there will never be, another Tuomas Holopainen; Nightwish; Floor ❤️🔥 Can I get an “amen!”

Such an incredible and meaningful song too. Tuomas never fails to send chills with his compositions. The only thing for me is in the chorus, Floors vocals are a little too low in the mix which I know allot of the NW fans are saying about it. Other than that for me, I'm like on my 10th listen so far, such a good piece of music🤘🤘

The thing that makes Tring interesting is that, among their "cases full of dead animals," are Darwin's actual finches, collected during his voyage on the Beagle. These were the key evidence for his theory of evolution - if science had sacred relics, Darwin's finches would be front and center.
They appear in the video (12:07 - 12:08), along with Darwin's drawings.

The only problem I felt like I had imo. The music in the background overshadowed her voice at points. Like her volume on vocals were lower than the music.

This is Nightwish NOT Floor and band. If Nightwish presents their music like this, then this is how they want it to sound. You may not like the mix, but that does not make it a "bad" mix.
@DroneDreams Oh don't get me wrong, I love Nightwish. And I know it's not just Floor. And it's not a bad mix per say. I do love the song. But it just felt like with how I heard it, and my experience recording, her vocals weren't as loud. That's all I'm saying. They could've turned up her vocals just a tad at some points.
You say this song is very different in sound. In my opinion, this song doesn't sound different from songs on previous two albums and it's even very similar to songs on those albums. Of course you can't make conclusions about the new album from one song, but I expected more. Tuomas' handwriting in new song is immediately noticeable, just like on first album. But new songs (with few exceptions) don't have that dynamics, new bold decisions, mood changes and emotional roller coaster, as it was in first two eras. And according to good tradition of Floor era, we probably won't hear beautiful guitar solos anymore. Only simple guitar riffs that have been there since beginning of band's existence. Floor is a competent singer and Tuomas is a professional, but I expected more. It's not a bad song, but it's not wow! P.S. We are such demanding Nightwish fans, who have been with band since 90s 😉.

To me it's exactly what I expected it to sound like. Tuomas already said that Yesterwynde is going to be the conclusion to a trilogy that started with EFMB, so it makes kind of sense that it has the same overall vibe.
I must admit that the song needed to grow on me. I was really, really hyped to finally hear it and I didn't know what to think about it after the first time I listened to it but after a few more times I just love it.
It has a lot of energy and a pretty interesting topic.
As for the guitar work: They all said that it's a pretty heavy album compared to the last ones so maybe we'll hear a bit more of Emppu again. 😊
Let's see what the rest of the album will bring.
I think it's a great choice for the first single.
