I am a 21 year old singer/songwriter from Scarborough, currently based in Manchester. Welcome to the world of Morissette amon, any genre, she nails, her catalogue is immense, from rock to opera to r&b to country to soul, you name it she does it, especially her live performances.
I also am going to recommend, 'Fly Like A Bird' which is a live recording in a studio. So she is not lip-syncing. Then if you want a real live setting watch her performance at the Asia Song Festival. A note about this is, off this performance she was invited back the next year. What is special about that is in the history of this Festival no one had ever been invited for a second time ever, let alone in back to back years. As you continue to listen to Morissette you will realize how special she is. Now this isn't hard for me to say I sound like, a flock of geese farting in the mud on muggy day in August. This has been verified by a number of people who I thought were my friends. But if I were a singer sometimes it sticks a little to have to admit it. But if you were singing with her she would never try to show you up. Anyway, there you have it. Really though you good close your eyes and point and hit a song she does and it would be like the best.
Her covers of "Rise Up" done on the Wish Bus and "Fly Like a Bird" come to mind when you asked for suggestions. Pls react to them and be amazed, why she isn't a household name yet

And pls turn on the Subtitles), then "Rise up" (which surpassed the original artists video in views & likes), Then "Fly like a bird" (which is her latest viral video)....She was also asked by Disney 2 sing in the Philippines official movie song 4 Alladin. Listening to this I only hear the song. Yes Morissette is a phenomenal talent and can really sing. But to truly own a song singer and song become one and in this Morissette shows something transcending her vocal abilities. The whole being greater than the sum of it's parts.

I really enjoyed your reaction. The best reactions for me are from those in the craft, because you have insight into things a layperson would not notice. I like your thoughts about forgetting technicality to lose yourself in the emotions of the song. Of course, Mori has a lot of tools in her vocal toolbox to draw from, so improvisation is a little easier for her because of that. Thanks for that great analysis.

Lana, it seems that in this time of CV19 isolation, I’ve inadvertently become a RUclips Reactor junkie. That said, it’s pleasure to hear an analysis by someone with a strong Musical Theater background. Of course not all singers are MT singers, but all great singers possess some of those wonderful elements. Thanks for your insight.
