I just found one of these used, and this is exactly how i'm going to use it. i've been a dual amp tone user for decades. i know it's old vid, but great demo!
Why are some people seems to complaining about the pricing, why, because its Yamaha? if you want good flexible equiptment you are going to have to pay for it!. Yamaha and Roland have come out with some very good alternatives to lugging around some of those heavy amps, and they both sound quite good. This Yamaha amp could be considered a modeling amp,but what should be really known is that Yamaha marketed (along with Johnson) the very first modeling amps long before Line 6 or Kempler. Remember our ears are the tester for what we will buy,and if you really like something you WILL pay the price to own it. I think this amp would not be a mistake. Its flexible and sounds great.
2 amp tones at once...LOVE it. all my stereo 1960 cabs are about to get a new lease on life! nice job yamaha. Now....release the REAL pacificas in the USA! PLEEZ make the Pacifica 611 series available in the USA!!!
+livingabovethe12th The Pacifica 611's are available in the states. I got two earlier in the year. They're not hard to find online - Sam Ash, Kraft music stock them. Lots on reverb.com too...and they're beasts. It's my favorite to play next to my Suhr. Yeah - they're that good.
+Brian Donnelly thx SO much brian! i found them straight away with your tips. there is no way i would have missed this when i initially searched for these which was a while back. i should have looked more recently...i didn't because i travel to asia and europe all the time so i resigned to picking one up there where they are in almost any decent shop. thx again!!
I played this at the Yamaha store in London and it was great but my only concern is what its like at volume. The man in Japan probably designed the mosfet power amps to be very accurate which means your ears might well bleed at high volumes. This is great if you're into death metal and hate tube amp tones but then why would you buy this? Has anyone cranked one of these yet?
It's volume is fine. It's not for death metal or if u hate tubes. Do u think most people want their ears to bleed? Odd comment. Your all over the place. You tried it so figure out what u like.
+coffeewaldo I've met a load of people who rate amps and gigs by how thier ears bleed! Not me, ear plugs mean you can hear so much more. Its not a valve amp, its good but there is a tone to it thats not right and it wants to take a bite out of your leg all the time - like a dog that won't back down. Valves sit much easier and expand the sound. Still this is better than the Eleven Rack I have but not as good as the Groove Tubes Trio or Mesa Boogie Studio Preamp. BTW, its 'You're all ove the place'.
Oh sorry for the grammar mistake. I'm writing on a cell. I didn't proofread it. You know as well as I do the cell spells things the way it wants. It comes down to knowing how to set it. I'm comparing it to a Friedman small box limited edition and a Bogner Helios 50 watt. And no I'm not being smart. I have them and a few more amps. I'm a gear addict. For my personal taste I like it a lot. And I started off with cheap solid state amps for years and worked my way up to better and better amps after many yrs.
Oh shit, this is my secret of records my guitar´s solos; lef channel distorsion, right channel clean o ligth distorsion; now I could play in live with this "secret" without need "creazy conexion" with two amps ¡¡¡¡¡ i have a few records in my channel if you want heart it
This doesn't look like a third amp anymore!! I don't see the point in having this head when you still have to lug around a cabinet. I thought the idea was to have a third amp?? should have just improved the original. I don't even see any way to save your tones on here. Looks like all the same style of amps out there. If it is more than $500 for the dual than it is a waste. They should hire back the person who came up with the original idea of a third amp. They could have made the upgrades to the original with more power, bigger speakers and footswitch. This doesn't even have the kool orange glow on the front!!
+Guitarhero980 You don't need a cabinet for a gig or recording. You can run it directly to a mixer going to a PA and use in-ears to hear the sound. The street price is about $800.
+orlock20 That's what I am saying.... The amp is not a THR. THR was described by Yamaha as a "Third" amp. This is not a third amp. Is looks like a different style amp. The true THR fans wanted and update to the THR line, not a new amp design.
Best modeler still on the market. As the other post said dual amps at once. Sounds and feels better than the others.
The more I hear of this new amp, the more I am interested in it. Lots of tasty tones!

I wondered when Yamaha wou;d get round to doing a THR that was designed for volume. Love my THR 5 and it holds up against my Axe Fx for plexi tones
Best modeler out there. Try playing two high gain Marshall sounds at the same time, step in s boost and go.
Sounds great...
this amp looks handsome
Yamaha are pro hunting by the looks of things.
But does it do blues?
great amp! i want it
Best modeler out there.
How does it compared with an all-tubes amplifier ,such as Marshall dslcr20

If it sounds or feels like a dog biting at your leg lower the treble. It doesn't sound like that in my home.
Prince it's their not thier.

Can I have one? It would look great next to my other great Yamaha instruments! 😉
can you double track record in 1 take with this?
yes. just take each XLR out to a separate channel/track. that's exactly what they are doing in this video. the blended dual amp tones are killer!
Is it rack mountable? Thanks?
A 53-pound cabinet??? Ummm.

I think you are correct. This may well be the answer to the question nobody asked.
