Lyrics
"Stop asking musicians what they think"
He said softly as he poured himself a second drink
And outside, the world slipped over the brink
We all thought we had nothing to lose
That we could trust in crossed fingers and horseshoes
That everything would work out, no matter what we choose
The first time it was a tragedy
The second time is a farce
Outside it's 1933 so I'm hitting the bar
But I don't know what's going on anymore
The world outside is burning with a brand new light
But it isn't one that makes me feel warm
Don't go mistaking your house burning down for the dawn
Don't go mistaking your house burning down for the dawn
If I was of the greatest generation I'd be pissed
Surveying the world that I built slipping back into this
I'd be screaming at my grandkids: "We already did this"
Be suspicious of simple answers
That shit's for fascists and maybe teenagers
You can't fix the world if all you have is a hammer
The first time it was a tragedy
The second time is a farce
Outside it's 1933 so I'm hitting the bar
But I don't know what's going on anymore
The world outside is burning with a brand new light
But it isn't one that makes me feel warm
Don't go mistaking your house burning down for the dawn
Don't go mistaking your house burning down for the dawn
For the dawn
Aren't you ashamed of this?
I surely hope that you are
We live in a society that's maybe heading for Mars
But down here we still have a shower of bastards leading the charge
Outside it's 1933 so I'm hitting the bar
But I don't know what's going on anymore
The world outside is burning with a brand new light
But it isn't one that makes me feel warm
Don't go mistaking your house burning down for the dawn
Don't go mistaking your house burning down for the dawn
Don't go mistaking your house burning down for the dawn
Don't go mistaking your house burning down for the dawn
#FrankTurner
History might not always repeat, but it sure does love to rhyme.
It's looking like it will - now more than ever - repeat itself
Haha, it definitely repeats.

2022 sure as hell feels like it suits this song.
Matches up perfectly with Japan invading China in 1937 :)
Lol. 2020, man. And ever since.
@@wborradaile9303exactly like this
2023 didn't get any better. Maybe 1938 now though
lol my friend loved this song due to Trump. I loved to due to Covid. It was way more appropriate for the lockdown madness.
A few days ago as I was driving to the airport at 2am. This record played on a 1h Loop on the local radio. Can't get it out of my head since.
🤙
I've never cared much to visit England until hearing all the amazing musicians 🤩
"Don't go mistaking your house burning down for the dawn" is always relevant 🩶
Currently on repeat in America after today. Cant wait to scream this at the next concert.
My grandfather was 12, in 1933, and a mere 6 years later, at the age of 18, he'd be fighting a world war. As a Canadian, on the behalf of the United Kingdom!!!
Don't worry, we'll expect you to fight for us soon enough as well.
Smash the fash!
It's criminal that this only has 500,000 views
This album and this song should be on the top of the charts in the USA. Thanks Frank Turner, you made a fantastic album and something that is relevant in these shit times.
This song is a guarantee that a Frank Turner's concert will always be a fucking awesome experience!
Fantastic. Already picturing the harmonica guest appearances.
Honestly can't get enough of Frank's voice dude just can't make a bad song
Frank at his best! Compassion with a Point!!
Man your lyrics are spot on. Wish I could be as expressive as you, will be purchasing this album
If I was of the greatest generation I’d be pissed I’d be yelling at my grandkids we already did this! Having just returned from Normandy and dechau I can resonate with this
Remember hearing this for the first time in OKC...
Once more, Frank Turner showes amazing talent for putting to music what many are feeling.
the fact that so many others are thinking the same as me is what is keeping me together right now, thanks frank for bring us all together!
Just saw them play in St Pete Florida, what a great band!
It’s only gotten worse in the last 6 years, I’m worried what it’ll be like in another 6 years time. We never learn, how depressing.
He's back!!!!!!! Yesssss.
RIGHT?! Where has THIS frank been!?
I watch ur videos #subscribed
Omg! That’s so cool! My brother and I watch your videos. You actually coached him in soccer years ago.
I can already tell I'm gonna make frequent trips back to this track....
Can’t wait for this album to be out, every time one comes out I get more and more excited
Can't get enough of it already!!
Thanks for this album, Frank. The last few years, and what's happening now... We all need this. Thank you.
I was bummed when I saw Butch Walker wasn't the producer on this one. I'm not bummed anymore, this is great! Should be even better live.
Brian Kelly it definitely is a good one live. Saw him on 19th Jan and he did this. It’s amazing
This sounds amazing! I love the new look for the album. I'm very much looking forward to the new album now! (I've been refreshing youtube for the past 20 minutes or so waiting for this to appear!)
He never disappoints! So excited to hear the rest of the album.
I already thought his early stuff was brilliant, but this is close to perfection! Fan for life!
Damn, that's a good song!
Just ace... can't wait for the shows!
Love it! Can't wait for the entire album , just procured my tickets to the nyc show!
super chanson, paroles et musiques.
Frank, attitude and Etch-a-Sketch- winner!

Oh my god. Some of his best. Cannot wait for the album
This is amazing! Thanks for putting this gem into the universe Frank!
What a tune
What a great song! Love from Chile❤
This song was stuck in my head since February when he played at a solo gig ... thank god i can listen to it over over and over again
I first saw Frank back in 2009 in AC opening for Social D (as a side note Mike Ness has really good taste in opening acts). That night started a musical journey that reinvigorated me and opened up a whole new world of music for me. I'm still travelling down that road and Frank Turner's music is at the core of that, from his label mates ( Skinny Lister, Will Varley, and Beans on Toast) to the bands he chooses to tour with (I'm not sure about koo koo kangaroo, but, they were fun and it was a fun night.) This song takes me back to the bands earlier work. I am truly awestruck that this musician can continue to make such incredible music that is almost instantly infectious all the while touring nearly non stop. Brilliant!
John Chaney man when i showed up at the show and koo koo kanagaro i was positive i was at the wrong venue.
John Chaney koo koo kangaroo are ridiculous, but amazing. They're an acquired taste, that's for sure, but once you've gotten to know them they're hilarious :)
Frank's tour in 2013 introduced me to my now favourite band, The Smith Street Band. Give em a try.
Alex Cunningham I was at that show. Lol. That was my third time seeing him, but the first time after I started actually listening to him (second concert was when I started buying his music)

Liking the sound of this very much. Good song for the kids to sing to in the car :-)
No rest for Frank Turner
Es ist echt ein super Song
Just came from the vid for Be More Kind. More likely to buy this album now 😂 lovely blend of pop-punk style vocals with a softer but edgy instrumental style. I'm a good way, it's a middle of the road vibe that swerves more one way than the other sometimes.
INCREDIBLE
Yesssss
Yes, hello RUclips? I’ll need a ten hour version of this video, no questions asked please
Right click the video to loop it, you're welcome.

Great song by Frank again he always sounds angry in his songs but I've heard his a really layed back chap!
According to an interview with NME, Frank Turner notes the origin of “1933”, stating:
1933 was the year that the Nazis took power in Germany. Obviously I’m quite consciously aware of Goodwin’s Law and the idea that mentioning the Nazis gets pretty tired in principled debate pretty quickly. But it still, nevertheless, seemed like it was a turning point which in and of itself didn’t necessarily seem apocalyptic at the time - in 1933 I’m not sure that anybody in Germany was thinking of 1945 and yet they were inextricably linked. The year 2016 in particular felt quite momentous to me, it was a threatening year, and it’s a song that was written when we were touring in the USA in the summer of 2016 while the election campaign was ongoing.
And Lyrics cause we all wanna sing this -
Stop asking musicians what they think

But I don't know what's going on anymore
The world outside is burning with a brand new light
But it isn't one that makes me feel warm
Don't go mistaking your house burning down for the dawn
Don't go mistaking your house burning down for the dawn
For the dawn

Don't go mistaking your house burning down for the dawn
Great song! - from Toronto.
Sadly, the words will sail right over the heads of those it's written about and aimed at!
Almost everyone who listens to Frank and the souls, has a connection with what he’s writing and singing about.
Kay D meant the "bad guys," not the FT fans.
This is more like it Frank... feeling this more than Blackout...
Oh Frank it's so damn good to have you back, brilliant tune! Any chance of you playing it at Kendal Calling this summer? I'll buy you a beer at the real ale tent!
nice song
Fantastic work sir
Made my day
I am so goddamn angry Rise Against hasn't covered this yet.
Homelessness Advocate
Why?
Are the notorious for covering Frank's songs...?
No, but they'd shred it. I mean, Frank does, but I reckon RA would do a great cover
Turner is the best, theres no doubt.
yesssssssss!
Like it! Reminds me a bit of Get Better in a way..
Love it
cant help it,but imho this refrain has a strong "rise against"-feel
This is really really really good! Thank you!
Trying to push this song into the algorithm. Pretty topical
GREAT TRACK MUSH
Frank Turner can do no wrong with music
LOVE the lyrics
