Go shooting this afternoon, i'll keep this in mind, thanks fot your great vids and wonderfull landscapes. Keep cool in your road rages! 😋🎯🇫🇷. From France, Philippe.
Thanks, glad you find it that way. I've found it best to make "quiet" films and let the viewer take away whichever detail he/she wants. There's no "my way//highway" here...
Thank you for taking the time to make these brilliant videos! Any serious shooter can appreciate the simplicity you demonstrate in each one. I feel like I'm a better shooter by just watching them and not even going to the range! Keep em' coming!!
Thanks, glad you like the storytelling. It gets easier with practice. I think when the current camera breaks down, I will get an external microphone and try to improve sound as well.
@Miguel Angel Raistlin: Sorry, I have never used any of these systems. A digital angle gauge is cheaper, but is doesn't tell you anything about the relationship between the rifle and scope. I mount my scope level to my eye when I hold the rifle natural, I don't mount the scope level to the rifle. (David Tubb describes the same procedure in his book "the Rifle Shooter" page 379.)
Nice vid. I live on your shooter aid target and card. Love that thing! Very interesting you have a anti-cant in the reticle. I use a bubble..After leveling the rifle and scope I rotate the bubble mount that it touches a line taking out deviation. (eliminating the bubble rocking between the lines) I was told that 1 degree of cant is 6 inches at 1000 yards. Me shooting 500 yards I figured it help 3 inches. I feel I am using my bubble more to be consistant in set up behind the rifle rather than aid in group size.
Dear Thomas, in case you are reading this: I know you have become a dedicated mountain hunter with your K95, which is a good thing. But would you mind, making here and there some old school shooting/hunting video of yours, with less talking and letting more the action and scenery speak for themselves? Also I would like to know something about your alleged 6,5 Magnum project: PRC or -284 Norma (again), in your R8 or another platform? And do you still use your Minox scopes with your custom reticle? I have an R8 Ultimate in 6,5 Creedmoor (guess, who inspired me ;-) and been thinking about needing a litte more oomph. Blaser still makes 6,5-284 barrels without charging extra fee and Lapua brass seems avalaible, at least in my country. A ZP5 with THLR reticle on top would be my choice. Just for fun, the Creedmoor is all I realistically need, much like .308 Winchester... Have a great day!
Already made one of those films. The Minox is on the R8 which I don't really use anymore, the K95 is so much nicer to carry. I have a 6,5 PRC barrel on order, simply because that cartridge is the FUTURE when compared to the 6,5x284 as the former lets me buy factory ammo and the latter makes me a slave of the reloading bench. For that project I wanted to shoot the heaviest 6,5mm bullets (for less winddrift at the longest ranges) and shoot the lighter copper bullets as fast as possible (for better expansion and effect) BUT still from a normal lenght barrel. So I don't really want to change anything on my rifle, just increase performance. A smarter choice would be the 7 PRC with 180gr for the winddrift (at the cost of recoil) or the 270 for available factory ammo with 110gr copper bullets (at the cost of winddrift).
Road rage with the sheep I like it Thomas. What is the typical round count for a 6.5x284.looking too ad one too my blaser set up.great vids Thomas helps me alot
Thanks for that & no problem. I have retired my 6,5x284 barrels right around 2400-2500 rds. They still shoot more than good enough for 2-300 meters at that stage, but they lack that final "sting" at 600 and I cannot reliably place the shot.
Africa. variation of temps, shooting positions, distances with mirage. The speed you have to do things at at times.... Hunted 21 antelope in 24 hours...ranges from 80m -400m.
You'll find the target and manual here vertebrae.no/news/calling-shots-and-shooter-error-target/. I suspect you'll enjoy your rifle, both the Ruger andmthe 6,5 Creedmoor is getting rave reviews across the board.
The Blaser is really well surface treated, but I usually add a layer of Cerkote as well. That and Duracoat has worked really well for me. As you noted, I live close to the sea and together with the rain this makes for an exceptionally aggressive environment for a lot of firearm surfaces.
As for cleaning, oil and patches. Bronze brush (10 strokes) after every shoot for carbon, clean patch and then oil. If copper removal is needed (barrel looks salmon pink when patch is stopped 1cm from muzzle), then an aggressive copper remover to soak in the barrel as per manufacturers recommendation.
Hello, Could provide an explanation of the section that shows the markings on your scope as part of your 'secret' for the timed shot please? you state "appr 0, 6-700m" Are you referencing the "danger space" at that range regardless of caliber for that sized target?
Will you try the same level practice on the berm behind you (with your feet slightly uphill and out to your left) and look at some inanimate object other than a piece of square hanging steel? Your vestibular sense may be more tuned than mine but this is usually when I have the most difficulty leveling the reticle. When I have to take less than ideal shots from unconventional or uncomfortable positions at unconventional targets.
Actually, 9 seconds is slow compared to what Norwegian shooters do in "Felthurtigskyting". During my last (and first) match it was 4 seconds/709 meters/same size/strong wind, this was also filmed for the upcoming DVD. The Minox scope is available for purchase. The THLR C reticle is not until there is a market demand. There will hopefully be a THLR H reticle that is groomed for Hunting, which will have many of the C features but scaled for relevance to hunting. As always, the reticle focus on simplicity/speed/any-ammo.
You'll find the target and manual here vertebrae.no/news/calling-shots-and-shooter-error-target/. I clean after every shooting, 10x strokes with oiled bronze brush and then a few patches. If inspection reveals copper residue,,Inusensome copper cutter. I use whatever products my local gunshop sells.
Yes: I never considered the expense, but for me getting time off to go shooting can be really hard. So I really have to narrow it down to a realistic training program that gives real results. Especially since I 3 years ago cut my hand and was lame, then I really had to get back in shape by technique only. These two exercises is all I do, Calling Shots/Shooter Error and LR Proficiency. Speed comes natural once my work routines are settled.
I used Atec Optima 45. Please note I chose this silencer due size and weight and was willing to accept the wear a 300 Norma will put on a silencer. Normally people would choose a bigger/ heavier silencer than me.
Hey Thomas, would like your insight... I'm going to get a chassis for my 300wm... There's so many to choose from, even at the lower price points.. You tested the MDT & XLR.. I'm not sure about the radius bed on the XLR... The MDT has V-Block... Do you think it makes any significant difference for precision accuracy?
What scope is that in the video? Are you still liking the Schmidt and Bender's? I've been looking for a scope to mount on a 6.5 swede for hunting and target shooting out to about 600 yards, as a student I'm on a bit of a budget. Any thoughts?
It's a Minox ZP5. Yes, I still like my S&B PMII's but their pricerange have moved into the ridiculous-sphere and I'm not spending that kind of money on a scope. Basically you need to decide what is most important, target/hunting and then look into the secondhand market. I would definitively get a S&B, Kahles, Swarovski or Zeiss secondhand and don't worry too much about it not being optimized for target shooting. I started shooting longrange with 6x42 scopes myself and later graduated to a 8x56. At the time I was happy to hit a 40x40 target at 600m and it was a really good quality scope. A secondhand quality scope can be had for about 3/4 of a new tactical-schmactical scope in the budget pricerange and the optical quality just doesn't compare. )Of course, you can shop around for a secondhand budget scope as well, save even more money). I'd look for a variable quality scope with at least 42mm (preferably 50mm) objective and 8-15x as upper magnification. Just two weeks ago I picked up a secondhand Swarovski 8x50 for my own hunting rifle for a lot less money than I'd pay for a scope "in fashion". No doubt it'll serve my hunting 100% as this scope most likely will never limit the use of my hunting opportunities.
@thlr.no how do you mount your scopes? I am thinking of buying a Schmidt und Bender PMII Ultra Short and need a good mount with Picatinny rail. Thanks!
I have a Contessa picatinny rail and a Spuhr mount on top of that (it is what was available at the time). Today I would have chosen an Innomount or a set of Tier One rings on a Blaser saddle.
I'd probably og for the Innomount saddle if buying everything new. If replacing what I have, I'd place a set of Tier One rings on my old Blaser saddle base.
Haha, you can replace rain with sun. I suspect that will fit better at your location. Discovered yesterday that my location on average only has 14 days/year with temps 20C or above...
Hi, can you send me a photo of the THLR Lightweight Rear Bag along with the THLR Standard Rear Bag? For fable. So I can really measure the size. Thank you
Two cameras filming simultaneously. Canon G16 (closeups, now replaced w Canon G1X) and Canon Powershot SX50. Reasonably priced cameras that take the weather well.
A 243 with 95-105gr match bullets could be very nice for targets. Most standard 243 does not have the required barrel twist for those bullets, making the 308 more versatile.
How do you like that Minox scope? Also been thinking to get a new scope, something better. You have tested that Kahles 6-24x56 K series, is Minox better, or is Kahles as good as Minox? I have now Sightron S-Tac 2.5-17.5x56, but i have been thinking to get Europian manufactured scope, something from Germany, they make the best optics, and Austrian people too :), like Kahles, Swaroski and so on.
I like the Minox just fine, it does the same job as my S&B. I cannot comment between the differences on Kahles or Minox as both are well above my "good enough" threshold (meaning I have no limitations in the scope) and work. Kahles is also on generation 3 in their scopes, and I believe the scope I tested was generation 1.
Ok, thank´s for the comment. I have been looking these Minox scope few years ago, but this top of the line scopes were not on my eyes at that time. I would LOVE to come in to the Norway at your education, for the long range shooting training session :) Do you have taken any groups to shoot there? Good business idea that would be, but not taken too many person and not too offen, it might kill the enjoy of the idea, if doing it too much.
Love your videos! Morning rush and the road rage made me laugh so hard I started to caugh!
:D Glad to hear your ok now!
thanks for video!!!!!!!!!!!! i think you are the best teacher for long range for me!!!! good luck

Thomas you are exelent , l love waching your videos for me its like movie , big greetings 👍👍👍
Super, very generous of you!
Beautiful scenery, Thomas.
Thanks! It can be very nice, but I do prefer NZ where you have scenery + game.

Hallo Thomas,
thank you again for your Eye-opening Vid !!
Thank you, glad you found it useful!

Subscribe...i think am going to watch all the video to day .😁
Thanks for that, With 250+ films you have work ahead of you! Mind you, the early films have very poor quality.
Excellent video Thomas! Thanks for sharing, it really helps. Now looking forward for a video with 300 Norma... ;-)
Thanks for that. Well, I hope it will be more fun than recoil.

Sounds like the proper use of a bubble, training shooter confidence.

Good video. Helpful tips. I just started shooting a Ruger P.R. 6.5 Creedmoor.

I love your videos. What do you use to clean your guns? You get them really wet allot. How do you keep them from rusting?
The Blaser is really well surface treated, but I usually add a layer of Cerkote as well. That and Duracoat has worked really well for me. As you noted, I live close to the sea and together with the rain this makes for an exceptionally aggressive environment for a lot of firearm surfaces.

Beautiful country
It is a nice stretch along the coast here, but it is also very hard weatherwise so not many have settled here.
Where is your Schmidt & Bender scope, Thomas? Not using them any more?
Bertram Inc. I sold them for a token sum to some friends. I still have one of the PMII's in case I need an extra scope.
Hello, Could provide an explanation of the section that shows the markings on your scope as part of your 'secret' for the timed shot please? you state "appr 0, 6-700m" Are you referencing the "danger space" at that range regardless of caliber for that sized target?

In a way you are saying if you are structured and analytic in your approach then full bore shooting need not be expensive.
Yes: I never considered the expense, but for me getting time off to go shooting can be really hard. So I really have to narrow it down to a realistic training program that gives real results. +J Bullast Oh, I've shot both, but can't comment outside "both worked"
+THLR.NO well... that "works" for me.. thanks
2:09 you mentioned putting the anti-cant feature in the reticle. Do you mean an internal bubble level?
ImpactoDelSur Enterprise No. I have a square in the reticle which is very easy to, well, "square up".
What scope is that in the video? Are you still liking the Schmidt and Bender's? I've been looking for a scope to mount on a 6.5 swede for hunting and target shooting out to about 600 yards, as a student I'm on a bit of a budget. Any thoughts?

Where could print out one of these targets? What distance are you shooting at?
You'll find it here vertebrae.no/thlr/. I need to update the exercise description, I no longer care about magnification setting.
Hi, what is the version that you see in the viedo? Is the THLR Lightweight Rear Bag version? Or is the Standard version? Please
I prefer the lightweight version myself. It is a little smaller/ less dense than the standard version which is slightly easier to use.
Thanks
Hi, can you send me a photo of the THLR Lightweight Rear Bag along with the THLR Standard Rear Bag? For fable. So I can really measure the size.

yep , I think you need a good anti can't bubble there ! ;-) (y)

But you need to take a flight to pay me a visit then ........
what camera set up are you using to capture your shooting?
Two cameras filming simultaneously. Canon G16 (closeups, now replaced w Canon G1X) and Canon Powershot SX50. Reasonably priced cameras that take the weather well.
Did you notice a big difference between traditional stocks and chassis ? just wondering if it's worth spending 1000euros on that.
Chassis are easier to adjust/ shoot well, but I'd spend the money on more shooting!
May I ask, what is the name of the cheek piece leveler?
It's this vertebrae.no/thlr-cheek-rest.html?SID=m5t03dmt4g98s4ii1bht9jmvo6
Thank you very much for the extreme fast answer!
i see the morning rush is a lot like the rural irish morning rush lol :)

***** haha true and I love both together
How can I get your calling shots target?
The target and manual is hosted here vertebrae.no/news/calling-shots-and-shooter-error-target/
Månad 7 är juli, inte juni... ;)
Har du någon uppfattning om hur Minox billigare taktiska modeller ZE5i Tac är jämfört med det du använder?
Ja så det i etterkant. Konseptet "sommer" er en ganske virkelighetsfjernt for meg. Har dessverre ingen erfaring med rimeligere Minox modeller.
what do you think about 243? is it better than 308? for 600 meters?
A 243 with 95-105gr match bullets could be very nice for targets. Most standard 243 does not have the required barrel twist for those bullets, making the 308 more versatile.
one more time good video
Thanks, glad you liked it!
best regards!
Thanks, good luck with the hunting season & dogs!
What kind of rifle is that? Is that a straight pull rifle?
Yes, it is a Blaser R93 straight pull rifle.
What rear bag do you use?
This one thlr.no/lr-projects-products/rear-bag
was wondering what scope your useing?
Boondock Serama Minox ZP5, 5-25×56
Thank you for such a fast response.
What is the 6.5 creedmoor your shooting?
Not a Creedmoor, allthough for ballistical purposes it is as good as identical. I shoot a 6,5x284 here.
I would LOVE to come in to the Norway at your education, for the long range shooting training session :)
Do you have taken any groups to shoot there?
Good business idea that would be, but not taken too many person and not too offen, it might kill the enjoy of the idea, if doing it too much.
Sorry, I don't do any training. Check out Lindrothnorin website, they do some training sessions each year.
Ok, i might check his pages :)
Hvilken tofot er det du bruke her ? hvor får jeg kjøpt den ?
Dette er en Rifle Precision System (RPS) Titanium. Selges av RPS (norsk firma) eller Vertebrae.
rain season?
Year round I'm afraid. On average, appr 220 days per year.
I see a contessa rail! 🇮🇹
Yes, absolutely. I have both Contessa and Blaser rails. They do an identical job at a different price.
@@THLR love your videos as always!
This is Scotland?
No, this is northern Norway.
Thanks! I'll try next time with my flying pig gg^^

Yes.

That's the Arcteryx Quanta cap. Unfortunately not available in green anymore. It is a brilliant product!
